Re: Sawmill, near Vinita, Oklahoma   1115A

Query posted by Schofield, Connie on July 17, 2009

On Highway 60-66 less than a mile west of Afton, OK is what is called Sawmill Corner. That is southwest Ottawa county. However that is far from Spawinaw Creek which is northern Mayes county. You might find something on the Spavinaw Creek area by finding information on the building of the Grand River Dam in 1938-1939.

Hi, friends, I was born and raised in Vinita and live here now. I know the corner near Afton that is spoken of here, but Spavinaw has had a sawmill. My sister and brother-in-law lived in Spavinaw 2 different times in the last 10 years before he passed away. I will email her about this. I do know that she has mentioned a sawmill there before.

Re: James C. Wilkinson   1125F

Query posted by Cowboy on July 29, 2009 for WILKINSON

I have been researching Wilkinson for some time. Am the author of Deadly Affrays, the Violent Deaths of the U.S. Marshals in which Wilkinson is mentioned. He served as a deputy U.S. marshal in Ft. Smith,Ar, Muskogee, OK as well as Vinita, OK for a period of 40 years. His son, James C. Wilkinson may have been a deputy marshal in McAlester, OK during the 1920's and 30's. I would be interested in corresponding with any of Wilkinson's relatives. If you are so inclined please get hold of me.

Hello, This family is one that my brother-in-law, Jess Peetoom of Vinita, OK is descended from and which my sister (his wife, Frances) and myself have worked on at length over the years. Either of us would be very glad to share the info that we have collected on the family. Frances doesn't get online very often, but I can answer any question that you might have about the family. VERY glad to hear that someone of the family is interested. Write me directly at my email if you want to: OkieEddy@yahoo.com
Sincerely, Eddene Hightower Thompson

It is being downsized and turned into a criminal facility so you need to write as soon as possible as we have no idea what will happen to the mental patient records.

Eastern State Hospital Query posted by Lewis, Lavon on September 09, 2009

I hope the address is correct. I will check. However the name is now Oklahoma Forensic Center and it is for the criminally insane who are sent for evaluation or committed as not guilty by reason of insanity. The mental hospital no longer exists. I personally live in Vinita. I would suggest you check with the state of Oklahoma Department of Mental Health. You can find out how to contact that department through the State of Oklahoma website.
