From my understanding they weren't very good at keeping records of deaths. Have u tried to send off for a death cert.? I contacted they Funeral Homes in the area, they were very helpful. Thats how I found my grandmother, on the paper they sent me it listed where she was buried, who paid for the services, etc. Or you might try the obits in the local paper. Hope some of this helps Let me know!

Eastern State Hospital Query posted by Kate on July 31, 2003

I wish I could tell more, but Eastern State WAS a mental hospital. Both of my parents worked there in the mid and late 1950's. As for getting records I am looking for a few myself and keep finding dead ends. I wish you luck in your search.

Sarah Ann "Sally" Falls Crawford Carter   534

Query posted by Crawford, Gene on August 20, 2003 for FALLS

My 2nd. G-GM was Sarah Ann "Sally" Falls who was first married to George Washington Crawford (1820-1965?). George and Sally are my 2nd G-GP. I never knew if George died and then Sally married Berry Carter or if they divorced and she married Berry Carter. Their whereabouts is a mystery to me. I would really like to know about them. You have already been most helpful. Any additional information you can share would be greatly appreciated. I live in Fannin County, Georgia (which joins Polk County, Tennessee) where George, Sally and Berry lived before leaving the area. Berry Carter is supposedly buried in White Oak Cemetery. His 2nd wife, Elizabeth may also be buried there. Will appreciate any help.

There are no Carters in White Oak Cemetery with headstones or rocks that would indicate who they are. Have yet to find any mention of any Carter buried there either.

Is there a local genealogy group? need help...   553

Query posted by Txgirlmck on September 02, 2003

Is there a local group or a local library that has research materials on hand? I am needing to locate a funeral home record and have no idea where to begin. It would have been from 1920-1930 time period. It was a sudden death while on a trip to Vinita so I have had no dealings with trying to locate old info in the city.. so I need a little direction on where to start. :) Any insight would be appreciated.

The local funeral homes have no records before 1927. The local society has some newspaper obits. etc for the 20's but not for 1920-23. Write for research fees, etc. Do you have a closer time period than 10 years?

I have a book on Craig County. It lists John William Coats b. 1877 near Welch. He was the son of Huff D. and Louisa Jane Craig Coats. Craig County was named for her Uncle, Granville Craig. Is this your family?

Hi Maxi, thanks for your reply. The only info I have for my grandfather is that he gave his last address as Afton, OK, in 1923 when he married my grandmother in Maryland. He also put on the marriage license that he was born in MO. As for when he was born, it was 1900-02 (?). Do you have listed the children of John William Coats? He could be one of their children. Susan
