Re: Terry families in Big Cabin, OK   632A

Query posted by Freeman, L on May 08, 2004 for FREEMAN

Hi Carrie- I have been hunting the John T Freeman family and I believe Eliza Harmon is his half sister. I think her mother was Nancy Freeman from KY. Believe I have found them on the TX Parker Co. census in 1880. I don't know when they moved to OK and only have family memories from 2nd generation. I think we have a picture of the Terry and Freeman family gathering and that is why I started looking for Terry family in Craig Co. I hope we can add to each others info.

Re: ESH Vinita Oklahoma   615

Eastern State Hospital Query posted by Whitesell, Randy on June 12, 2004

I grew up in Vinita. Eastern State Hospital is located about one mile northeast of Vinita and is one of two state mental hospitals in Oklahoma. There is a cemetery located on the east side of the hospital where patients were routinely buried. I've never read the tombstones but many are clearly visible from the road when you drive by. Vinita is a small town of about 5000 people and any local resident could give you driving directions. I do not know who maintains a list of patient buried in the cemetery but I would recommend contacting the main administration building on the hospital campus. This is where patient and employeee records used to be maintained. I worked at the hospital as a psychiatric attendant in 1974, and my grandfather worked there in the 1950s and 1960s. You might also search for "Craig County Historical Society" on this website. Good luck.

LAWRENCE, William Henry   617

Query posted by Mmmhattie on June 17, 2004 for , LAWRENCE, KNIGHT

Looking for any info about this man----what his occupation was, did he marry, etc.?
The family lore is that he died in Vinita Craig Co.,OK.
He was born Wisconsin, Nov 1870. Lost track of him after 1880. That is all I have.
I have looked in census records, but his name is too common to believe. His father was Benjamin Needham Lawrence [last name spelled variously] and mother, Susan Jane Knight.
Ben was born in VT, Susan was born in NY.
Anyone ever come across his name in an OK cemetery?

Query posted by Sviehweg on June 29, 2004 for COVERDELL

Aloha! Thanks for replying. I don't know when my Coverdell's moved from Ketchum to Pryor (Mayes County), but my grandmother was born in Ketchum in 1919. George Cleveland Coverdell was her father. I can't seem to find some of the other Coverdell burials, so I am only assuming they too are buried in Ketchum..may or may not have a marker.
