Whitaker Children's Home - Picture of Personnel of the Home

Following Information furnished by Janie Drake -

"My grandmother and her youngest brother were supposed to have lived in the Whitaker Home after their mother died in 1909. Their father had died in 1907 from Kidney disease. I have a photo that I believe is a shot of everyone who lived there and worked there on a certain date. I do not know what year it was taken but I believe I know where my grandmother is in the photo. Her name was Sylinda Lorraine Elizabeth Vallandingham and her little brother's name was Moscow Vallandingham. "

"I have no idea what year it was but since her mother died in 1909/late November and I heard you could only stay there until you were 16, then the photo has to be between Dec 1009 and December 1913. Grandma was born Dec 11, 1897 so she turned 12 in Dec right after her mother was killed. She would have been 16- Dec 11, 1913. It narrows the dates of the photo down to within four years. Now if you look for her there is only one girl that looks like her. She had very distinctive features. The original photo that I have, the one I made all the others from is very clear! ! The resolution is unbelievable especially if you consider when it was taken and how far back the photographer had to be to get them all in. When you look at my grandmother in the photo I believe she was 14 or 15 years old since she would be gone after 16, which narrows it done another little bit. I believe the photo was probably taken in 1912 or 1913?"
