Submitting Information
- Do not submit copyrighted material unless it is your own or you have obtained
permission of the copyright owner to post it. (Note: public domain records are not
copyrighted.)
- The copyright to any information contributed resides with the contributor
(or the original copyright owner) who agrees that the US Gen Web, as a not-for-profit
project, has permanent use of the data.
- No royalties will be paid on any submittal and all data is free to the
public (subject to the copyright on the material).
- Once submitted, data can not be retracted by submitter. (It usually takes
a considerable amount of time to get information ready for and onto the
internet. It is US Gen Web's policy to not remove information once uploaded.)
- Contributors should use discretion regarding the inclusion of data on living
people. (If in doubt, don't submit!)
- Any obviously false, malicious, libelous, or copyrighted data will not
be posted or will be deleted.
- Material will be evaluated for relevancy prior to posting and County Coordinator retains
the right to refuse any submission.
- Gedcom (.ged) and executable (.exe) files are not accepted.
Preparing information
- Unless you are sending only a few lines of information, please send data and images as attachments to email.
- For text documents: Ascii text (.txt) files are preferred. (Files submitted as .doc, .wri, .dbf, .htm, .html, etc. usually have embedded formatting that makes it difficult or impossible to translate.) Provide contributor and source information if possible.
- For tabular information: Cemetery indexes and similar documents (information in a table format) may be sent in a spreadsheet format or in a text format delimited with tabs or commas. (Please note that most cemetery indexes are
formatted: last name, first name.)
- For images: Submit scanned images as JPEG (.jpg) files.
Please include as much information about the image as you have available such
as date, place, photographer, contributor, and identify individuals in
photographs if possible.
- Please check spelling, grammar, and dates on submittals.
