1. COL JOSEPH STILES (MARTIN HOWARD 1) was born 30-May-1830 in Trenton, MERCER CO, NJ, and died 1899. He married MARTHA FRANCES STIERS 22-Mar-1872. She was born 30-Jan-1840 in NY, and died 1910.

  Word was received here yesterday of the death of Gertrude Stiles, daughter of Mrs Joseph Stiles and sister of W. S. Stiles, cashier of the Bank of Commerce at St. Joseph's hospital in Kansas City. Her death occurring Wednesday evening.
  Miss Stiles never recovered from an operation performed in the hospital where she had gone in the hopes of bettering her health. Mrs. Stiles and the brothers of the deceased were present at the bedside at the time of her death.
  Miss Stiles came to Guthrie with her parents in 1890, from Missouri, and during the years of her residence here formed a wide circle of friends.
  The remains will be brought to Guthrie, reaching here on the 11:20 Santa Fe train today. The funeral services will be held at the family residence, 624 East Mansur at 2 o'clock this afternoon. The Rev. W. C. Miles of the First Presbyterian church will conduct the services."

Though I have a copy of the above obituary, I do not know which paper it was from.

2. WILLIAM SCOTT STILES (JOSEPH 2, MARTIN HOWARD 1) was born 06-Sep-1877 in Osborn, DE KALB CO, Missouri, and died 14-Aug-1963 in Stockton, San Joaquin Co, California. He married (1) MABEL Z. BOWMAN 14-Sep-1899 in Oklahoma, daughter of OLIVER BOWMAN and RACHEL PEARSON. She was born 26-Nov-1879 in Illinois, and died 16-Jan-1952 in Stockton, SAN JOAQUIN CO, California. He married (2) DELPHA FLORENCE HARPER 06-Oct-1952. She was born 19-Jan-1894 in Angels Camp, California.

  William Scott Stiles was born 06-Sep-1877 in Osborn, DE KALB County, Missouri. His father, Joseph Stiles, was born 30-May-1830 in Trenton, MERCER County, New Jersey; he possibly served in the Union Army during the Civil War and did marry Martha Frances Stiers 22-Mar-1872. Joseph and Martha lost one child, Henry Stiles, born 05-Nov-1873 and died 07-Dec-1876, before William was born. Their other two children, Arthur Stiles (born 21-May-1879) and Gertrude Stiles (born 20-Oct-1881) were probably both born in Missouri. Family notes mention that they were in St. Louis, St. Louis County, in 1877. However, William's application for a social security number states that he was born in Osborn, De Kalb County, Missouri in 1877.
  The family moved to the Oklahoma Territory in 1890. Guthrie was the territorial capital of Oklahoma. The Oklahoma land rush was in 1895, at that time Guthrie, Logan County, had a population of 2788. Located in the northeast area of the state, it has a post office, a railroad, and a pony express office.
  Joseph Stiles died in 1899. During that same year, on 14 Sep 1899, William married Mabel Z. Bowman, daughter of Oliver Bowman and Rachel Pearson. William Stiles and Mabel Bowman had three children, all born in Guthrie, Logan County, Oklahoma, the first three years of their marriage: Harry William Stiles, born 14-Jun-1900; Raymond Joseph Stiles, born 26-Jul-1902; Carl Russell Stiles, born 28-Dec-1903.
  William Scott Stiles worked as a cashier for the Bank of Commerce at St. Joseph's Hospital in Kansas City in 1905. It is unsure if his family resided in Guthrie or Kansas City during this time. However, William lost his sister, Gertrude, that year. She died in Kansas City, Missouri, a victim of "quick consumption." Gertrude never recovered from an operation performed in the hospital where she had gone in the hopes of bettering her health. Her mother and brothers were at the bedside at the time of her death. Her remains were brought to Guthrie on board the Santa Fe train and services were held at the family residence, 624 East Mansur. Reverend W. C. Miles of the First Presbyterian Church conducted the services.
  Ruth Frances Stiles, born 31-Jan-1909, and Gordon Allen Stiles, born 21-Sep-1911 were also born in Guthrie, LOGAN County, Oklahoma. Ruth remembered her father coming home and telling everyone to get packed as they were moving. She remembered her mother arguing with her father that she could not get everything done/packed and her father's response was that if they weren't ready they'd be left behind. Sometime in 1912, the family of seven traveled by train from Guthrie, Oklahoma to the San Joaquin Valley in California.
  William Scott Stiles had some type of a retail store in the San Joaquin Valley, possibly a grocery store. Later he and a friend opened a real estate office in Stockton, California. Over the years he bought a number of houses/properties in Stockton, California and there is a road, Stiles Place, named after William. In 1936, the family residence was 1857 E. Acacia St., Stockton, California and William worked for Inman's Inc., located at 307 E. Weber Ave., Stockton, California. The family lived for many years at one of the houses, 641 Lexington Ave.
  Mabel Bowman Stiles died of a coronary heart attack on 16-Jan-1952 in Stockton, San Joaquin Co, California. William Scott Stiles married Delpha Florence Harper 06-Oct-1952, a friend of Mabel's and sister of Carl's third wife, Margaret Ellen Harper (Struckman).
  Harry William Stiles married Thelma Bishop. They lived for a number of years in Boise, Idaho. In 1936, Harry worked for Gordon-Allen Ltd., out of Oakland, California and they lived at 1936, 1405 Washington St., Boise, Idaho. They returned to California in 1968 and resided in San Jose. Harry died 04-Sep-1974 in San Francisco, San Francisco County, California.
  Raymond Joseph Stiles married his first cousin, Rachael Bowman. In 1945 they resided at 641 Lexington Ave, Stockton, California and Raymond worked for Flotill Products in Stockton, California He married Iris B. Hageman in 1946 and lived in Saratoga, California in 1968. Raymond died 27-Nov-1989.
  Carl Russell Stiles married (1) Virgil Lizann Peterson, (2) Ruth, and (3) Margaret Ellen Harper (Struckman). For many years he lived in the San Francisco and Oakland areas of California. In 1936 he lived at 2 Toledo Way, Apt 2, San Francisco, California and worked for Pacific Gas and Electric Co, San Francisco, California. He returned to Stockton, California in 1968 and died there on 28-Jan-1974.
  Ruth Francis Stiles married Marvin Eugene Cowell 18-Jun-1930 in Stockton, California. They had a family and lived in the San Joaquin Valley area of California. Ruth died of heart failure 11-Nov-1996 in Lodi, San Joaquin County, California.
  Gordon Allen Stiles married Estelle Wilhelmina O'Neil 20-Feb-1932 in Sacramento, California. They lived in central California and had two sons, Clarence Lloyd and Steven Neil, before divorcing in about 1940. He married Merle Louise Armstrong 03-May-1952 in Stockton, California. In that union Gordon adopted Merle's two daughters, Kathleen and Louise, from her first marriage and they had two children together, Larry and Nancy. Merle and Gordon divorced in the late 60�s or early 70�s. He moved into a retirement home in Stockton when 79 but suffered a heart attack a little over a year later. In 1998, his oldest son, C. Lloyd, moved Gordon to a Nursing Home in Escondido, California. He died there Feburary 28, 2000 and was interned in the Stockton Rural Cemetery near his parents.   
William Scott Stiles lived to see his children grow, marry, have a number of grandchildren and a few great-grandchildren. He died 14-Aug-1963 in Stockton, San Joaquin County, California

She was born 10-Aug-1904 in Near Geary, Oklahoma, and died Abt. 1985 in Near McArthur, California. He married (2) IRIS B. HAGEMAN 1946, daughter of BAILEY HAGEMAN and LEUELLA UNKNOWN. She was born 25-Oct-1902 in San Jose, California, and died 16-Feb-1998.
