Hildebrand Mill

Hilderbrand's Mill - near Flint, in Delaware County. An important flour mill established about 1852 by Peter Hilderbrand, a German immigrant. The mill was operated successively by Union and Confederate troops throughout the Civil War, and was a most important source of commissary supplies.

Hilderbrand - in southern Delaware County, 7 miles east of Kansas. A post office from August 3, 1886 to June 25, 1889. On May 24, 1895, a post office named Beckwith was established at this same location. It took its name from nearby Hilderbrand's Mill.

Beckwith in southern Delaware Co., 7 miles east of Kansas. A post office from May 4, 1895 to Nov 2, 1898. In 1889 a post office named Hilderbrand had been discontinued at this approximate location, and in 1900 a post office named Flit was established at the same site. Named for Richard Beck, first postmaster.
