Ora Delbert Davis' Wife - Died in Childbirth   214

Query posted by Duke, Courtney on May 19, 2000 for DAVIS

I am searching for the first wife of Ora Delbert Davis. She may have died in childbirth or when her son, Charles William, was very young. Charles was born June 22, 1917 in Big Cabin, Craig Co., Oklahoma. Charles may have been the name of this woman's father, because William was the name of Ora's father. Ora was born in Arcola, Douglas Co., Illinois on May 6, 1886 and the couple probably married before 1917. Ora was the son of William Berryman Davis and Rachel Salina Rayburn. He had 4 brothers: Millard, John, Murl and Frederick. Ora later married Katie Elnora Raiford. Does anyone know the name of his first wife and where she was from? Do you know where she is buried? Any info on this woman will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Marriages, births,divorce   261A

Query posted by Society, Craig County Genealogy on June 03, 2000

We find nothing in our newspaper files for the period of time mentioned. Suggest you check Muskogee as they may have such files before 1902. They may have divorce records, I don't know. There were no birth records before 1917. However, they may have applied for a delayed birth certificate in the 1940's for which you would have to write to the Vital Records in Oklahoma City.Be sure to tell the county in which he was born.

I don't have any info on your Cicero Landrum, but I do have info on a Landrum family from Vinita, OK which has a child named Cicero Martin Landrum. There almost has to be a connection in some way. If you think there is a chance that this could be your family get in touch with me at rlandrum@hal-pc.org and I will give you what I have.

He didn't die there. In fact, one day he was about to leave and the place told my great-grandmother, "if he leaves, he can't come back." Which was ok with the family, as he wasn't crazy.

The facility you want is Eastern State Hospital. It is being downsized and turned into a criminal facility so you need to write as soon as possible as we have no idea what will happen to the mental patient records.
