While Choctaw County Genealogical Society members are often busy at their computers diligently working to provide Choctaw County records to the masses. We do like to occasionally get out and join in community events. This includes working on our own projects as well as participating in the community events of other groups to see where we may be of service.

Jan 2017 - CCGS to Meet (Hugo News)
24 Jan 2017 - January Meeting Happenings (Hugo News)
Our scheduled cemetery workday for Swink was rained out and resceduled for February. However, our cemetery "hopping" day, as we like to call it, was very successful. We visited the following cemeteries, Sweet Hill, Gay, Cold Springs, Baxter-Allen, Bluff, Hotchkins-Ussery, & Jerusalem. A few of these we had already visited but required some photo retakes. We searched for a reported and unknown cemetery as well without any luck. Along the way, we talked with people in the community that were a very nice and a big help, Janet Phillips, Pete Hampton and his son-in-law, Dusty, and another gentleman whose name we didn't get, but who provided some very interesting information and the names of some area landowners. All in all another fantastic day for CCGS.
Our February program was "Grants" presented by Linda Humphry. We were also enthralled by recollections shared by Dale Robertson.
We are happy to announce that the very first Choctaw County Genealogical Society Cemetery Preservation
Clean-Up Day at Mt. Olive cemetery went very well today.
We had a nice group of people show up to help out and we got quite a bit accomplished.Trees and limbs were cut
and hauled off and many bags of trash were cleaned up along the fence lines. About 10 trailer loads worth in all.
Several headstones were discovered in the undergrowth and flagged to keep track of them when the brush hogging is
done later. We enjoyed a hot dog lunch and some baked goodies in between. And it was VERY exiting to see the
brand new cemetery sign installed!!
We would like to give a big thank you to all those that were able to come out and join us today.

We would like to extend a special thank you to the local

us. Pictured are Jackson Rabon, Dillon Carlile, Spencer

Drinkard. We do appreciate their help so much.
On July 7th, several members of the Choctaw County Genealogical
Society scheduled a visit to the Oklahoma Historical Society. We were
showed around the research division and given a behind the scenes tour
of the inner workings of the archives including a visit to the vault.
We had a great time and met many people that are interested in our
work in Choctaw County. We look forward to visiting again in the near
future.
