Ladies Society
Chickasha, Grady County, Oklahoma

I inherited a quilt dating to 1920 that has the following Chickasha, Oklahoma names embroidered in squares by each of the ladies. I can identify two of the quilt signers (Florence and Mollie), and my friend, Sandi Carter, was able to identify Hattie Nunn, who later became Hattie Moncrief.

Cora Eppler, 1920
Onilla Foster
Georgia Gautier, 1920
Florence Hayes
Mollie Hayes
Rhoda Hinds, 1920
Knowles, 1920
Bertha McRae, 1920
Hattie Moncrief, 1920
Edna Norton, 1920
Harrie Norwood, 1920
Cora Parnell, 1924
Mattie Powell, 1920
Bertha Smith, 1920
Mary Smith, 1920
Mrs MM Thames, 1921
Nora Ward
Nancy Livesay, 1920
Nellie Coryell (signature was not stitched, is faint, this is my best guess)

Also attached is a photo is a ladies group. I can identify two of the ladies. The ladies on the right in the seated row are Phoebe Elizabeth Morgan (Florence's mother) from Knoxville, Tennessee, and Florence (Harris) Hayes of Chickasha. Although Phoebe (Morgan) Harris appears in the photo, she is not one of the quilt signers. I don't know if the quilt and the photo have any relation to each other. I have been unable to identify any of the other women in the photo, and Sandi thought you might post it on the Shoebox web site.
