Thomas made the 1893 run into Grant county, and  homesteaded 160 acres near Renfrew. His name appears on the Pioneer's Wall in Medford, Grant county, OK. Thomas died of influenza in the great 1918 flu epidemic, but his family all lived long lives. Many descendants of this  family still reside in the area, as well as in Caldwell, Kansas, where the family plot is.

Thomas was the brother of my great grandfather, Benjamin H. Downing.
