Head of familys that helped settle 
in & around Cowden, Washita County  OK

S. H Phelps (Samuel Henry Phelps) was my Granndfather. Born 1 April 1869 Blount Co., TN. Moved to Oklahoma from Cassvill MO., Married, my  Grand mother, Ella Shepherd, born 21 March 1887 Sullivan Indiana, who had moved with her family to a farm 6 miles N.W. Carnegie, OK.,in 1900. They were married 31 Oct. 1906 in Plano Okla.(No longer there) Their first home was Approx. 4 miles S. W of Cowden OK. In Approx. 1917 moved Approx. 2 1/2 miles North of Cowden, OK. The Farm is still in the Phelps Name. S, H. Phelps died 26 June 1954, Ella died 14 April 1994. Both did and buried in Cordell, OK
