Dug Out
Starkey / Corby
Kiowa County, Oklahoma
about 1910

Lady with hat in hand is my grandmother, Catherine Jane Starkey, b. 1888 in Kansas. She came to OK when she was two years old in covered wagon in land rush. That's what I've always been told. So she would have arrived in OK ca 1890.

Behind her with the pipe in his mouth and hat is Merton Corby  b. 1878. The lady on left is Henrietta Starkey Corby, my grandmother's sister.  I'm not sure who the other man without the hat is. Could possibly be my great grandfather, Joseph Wilson Starkey.

Joseph Wilson Starkey, first settled in Kingfisher County. He raised and trained greyhounds for racing and farmed. Later on he moved to Oologah, Rogers Co., Oklahoma and that's where he died.

I would almost place this photo somewhere in Kiowa county, OK. I know that around this time (from the photo of my grandmother) she taught school in Hobart, OK. And it doesn't look like she was living there...........I'm talking about the nice dress.........maybe just there helping with new house or visiting????

My grandmother looks about 20 or so.........so maybe photo taken close to 1910 or after?
