Washita County, Oklahoma had 109 school districts in 1909. In 2002
there are 4 school districts, Washita Heights, Cordell, Burns Flat-Dill City, and
Sentinel. The original school districts served 3 or 4 square miles and
was a one or two room school. Washita County school census records are
housed in the court house.
The Cloud Chief school records were moved to Cordell and stored in
a basement which flooded and destroyed the records.
Port school records were transferred to Sentinel.
Washita Heights School District was created from the consolidation
of the Colony and Corn school districts.
