BROOKSIDE CEMETERY

NW 1-4 9-11-25

Meridian Twp.

Jim H. YELL moved from Texas and settled in this part of the county in the late 1890's. They had a baby boy named Archibald who died before he was one year old. They buried him here and donated one acre of land for the cemetery. This was the first grave in the cemetery and was dated 1899.

Matthew SOOTER owned the land to the south of the cemetery. In 1905 or 1906 Mr. SOOTER donated 6-10 acre to the cemetery. John COFFEY bought this land a little later. He thought that some of his land was in the cemetery but after having this matter looked into found out that 6-10 acre of his land belonged to the cemetery.

The present Cemetery Board consists of 3 great grand children of the original board. They are Betty SITES, Jim COFFEY and Doyle YELL.

The cemetery is located 3 miles east, one and one-half miles north of Sweetwater on the east side of the road.

Thanks to Doyle YELL for the above history as well as supplying the data on the stones.

This information was taken from the book "Cemeteries And More" written by Glenna Belle CRANE.
