The Grimes School had a well with a handle pump in the yard by 1936. Teachers wee earning $65 a month and paid $20 for room and board at a family's home. Teachers were their own janitors also. Records of the first teachers have not been located. At first land was donated by J. G. LANCASTER for the 16x24 foot building. Another 24 feet was added later. The first building was later bought by Carl SANVE for a general store and living quarters. In 1910 one acre of land was given by C. C. NISSON and 1/2 acre was deeded by E. S. REPASS for the school grounds. There were 66 pupils that year. On July 8, 1953, the Grimes school was annexed in its entirety to Berlin.
