Popejoy, Violet Elnora (Howard)
Violet Elnora (Howard) Popejoy was born to Jesse and Clara (Weger) Howard on June 6, 1918 as the youngest of twelve children. She married Carl Orland Popejoy on December 14, 1935 and had three children in Oklahoma: Nora Carlyn, Gene Orland and Floyd Dell.
During the great depression Carl went to California to find work. Standard Oil Company in Coalinga, California employed him. While they lived in Coalinga, they had two more children: David Dwight and Michael Gary. Floyd Dell was killed in an auto accident at the age of seventeen on New Year's Eve 1957. Violet was a nurse while living in California.
They moved back to Oklahoma in 1960's where they lived until Carl's health failed. Violet managed a rest home.
Carl preceded Violet in death on July 7, 1995 in the Cheyenne, Oklahoma Rest Home. Violet joined her daughter, Nora and lived in California and Arizona until entering Autumn Season's Assisted Living in Prescott Valley on May 1, 2009, where she passed away on September 7, 2009 at the age of 91 years.
Violet was a faithful Christian, a good mother and wife. Being a nurse she loved helping and caring for the elderly. Violet is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Popejoy, son Floyd Popejoy and eleven brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children: Nora Denman and husband Edward; Gene Popejoy and wife Barbara; David Popejoy and wife Valery; Michael Popejoy and wife Sandra and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her ashes are interred in the Cheyenne Cemetery near the interment of Carl Popejoy, her husband.
