A deal was consummated last week whereby a man by the name of Anderson became owner of the Johnson-Stovall cotton gin here. Mr. Johnson has moved to New Mexico where he has a fine ranch and Mr. Stovall is owner of a large grocery store here to which he will devote his entire time.
Fifty votes were cast Monday for the issuance of $10,000 in bonds for the purpose of building a fire proof school house. Not a contrary vote was cast. No More Overdrafts – Law places officials in bad condition. Customers may think it is a hardship, but accommodation extended as far as possible. On July 1, 1911 Hammon State Bank will cease paying overdrafts. Yours very truly, W.C. Kelly, Cashier Oklahoma State Bank and E.G. Commons, Cashier Hammon State Bank Deputy Sheriff Jim Lester has surrendered his commission to the sheriff of the county.
His resignation went into effect at once. Mr. Lester had other business that required more of his time than he was able to devote to it and at the same time do justice to the office of which he was sworn to do his duty. He made us an excellent officer, making life miserable for the bootlegger and the undesirable floating population. His resignation is to be regretted but we will not lose him as a citizen. He is interested in the meat market business and will devote his entire time to this enterprise. A successor to Mr. Lester has not yet been appointed.
