NANNIE BYRD WASSON

Death Claims Mrs. Wasson, State Native

Last tributes were paid to Mrs. Nannie Byrd Wasson, widow of the late Clark
Wasson, at 11 a.m. Monday in the First Presbyterian church in Antlers, the Rev. James N.
Cook officiating at the rites. She was 84.
Burial was made in the Antlers cemetery by Coffey Funeral home.
Mrs. Wasson, a native of what is Pontotoc County, died Saturday in a convalescent
home at Oklahoma City. She was born July 10, 1892 at Old Stonewall, the daughter of
Mr. And Mrs. Frank Byrd [the former Nannie E. Wilson]. She was a niece of William L.
Byrd, Governor of the Chickasaw Nation at the time. Mrs. Wasson held membership in
the Presbyterian Church. She lived more than 60 years in Antlers.
Surviving children include Byrd Wasson of Fort Smith; Mrs. Chloe Moyer of Antlers;
Miss Ruth Wasson and Mrs. Glenn Walters, both of Oklahoma City. Grandchild, Mrs.
Mary Douglas of Antlers.
Bearers were Corry Stephenson, Frank Fodge, Wilburn Berry, Dr. Robert W. Akins,
Cecil Hurd, Nevins Kirkpatrick, Ed Jackson, Carl G. Gossett.
