The Pawnee Chief

     EMMA SOPHIA (SWANSON) BRIGHT, 95, passed away at her home in Tulsa on Sunday, August 24, 2003, and funeral services will be held here Thusday morning.
She was born on January 14, 1908 in Pawnee to Charles Victor Swanson and Augusta Victoria (Johnson) Swanson and graduated from Pawnee High School in
1928.
Arvie Dee Bright became her husband on January 2, 1934, in Newkirk, Okla. And they established a home northwest of Pawnee in the Masham community.
He preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1969 and she moved to Tulsa to live with her daughter, Darla Faye Bright in January of 1970.
Emma was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciple of Christ) in Pawnee since May 6, 1962 and held various stations within Temple No. 18 of the
White Shrine of Jerusalem of Tulsa, attaining the highest position of Worthy High Priestess from 1975-76.
She is survived by the daughter, Darla Faye Bright of Tulsa and a sister, Velma Baird of Healdton, Okla.
Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, a sister Ada Blake and 4 brothers – Bill, Ed, Carl and Theodore “Scotty” Swanson.
Graveside Services will be conducted Thursday, August 28, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Pawnee’s Highland Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Scott officiating.
The Ninde Funeral Home of Tulsa was in charge of arrangements.
