Dance Club Founder Dies

Choctaw, Joe Ellis, 71, the national founder of the Single Square Dancers, USA, died recently, but his impact on the organization lives on.

Having a place for singles to dance, socialize and meet was the intent of this organization, said Vivian Ellis, his wife of  21 years.

Before his death Ellis presented the Single Square Dancers president with a gavel. The gavel will be passed to each elected president of the organization.

Ellis is survived by his wife, Vivian, three stepchildren, four sisters and four grandchildren.

He was buried in Kolb Cemetery.
