FOREWARD

I present herewith 103 articles that have appeared in my column in the Muskogee Sunday Phoenix for the past two and three fourths years.

I had decided not to publish them in a book, but my good friend, Bob Thomason, prevailed on me to do so, and we are making the publication a joint effort.

It has been a pleasure to put out this column weekly. The response of you readers has been very gratifying. I seldom appear in public without persons mentioning the articles and telling me how much they enjoy reading them. I have also been encouraged by many telephone calls.

Many of you have given me suggestions for additional articles which pleased me a great deal. I always welcome suggestions.

Muskogee and the surrounding area have a rich heritage. There have been many interesting happenings and numerous interesting persons who have gone before us, and it is my purpose to perpetuate the memories of such.

I trust this effort will enhance your appreciation of the past and those who have contributed so much.

As we Turn Back the Clock, many of you will have fond memories of the past events as well as of some wonderful people.

Many of the events and persons discussed here will be foreign to some of you. I trust this will give you an appreciation of the past and make you determined to make the future better.

I have selected articles that seemed to have been of interest to the most people. I trust they are the ones that appeal to you. It was necessary to omit many that I would liked to have included, but the format of the book restricts the number of pages, as one with many more pages would have caused technical problems.
