McCosar/Buck

Hughes County, Oklahoma

I canvassed this cemetery on May 22, 1998 (Memorial Day Weekend). In the past, I have found it very overgrown and unkept but this weekend it was very well cleaned. It is located on the edge of Holdenville Lake, from the stop light at Main and Hinkley Streets, 4.7 miles south of Holdenville on Hwy 48, Broadway of America, turn left (east) on blacktop road ( just past the State Fish Hatchery) and follow the blacktop road as it circles the lake for 1.2 miles and turn left (west) on a dirt road for about .2 mile. It is on the south side of the road on top of a hill. I visited with a lady at the Many Springs Babptist Church ( just a little ways to the south of the cemetery) and she told me the cemetery is now known as the MCCOSAR and sometimes the BUCK cemetery. She also told me the two families are related. Many of these graves are marked only by the markers put there by the funeral homes. The Hudson Funeral Home is located in Holdenville, Ok. The Mackey Funeral Home was also located in Holdenville but went out of business many years ago.
