Rose Barker funeral Tuesday
Funeral services for long-time First National Bank & Trust Co. in Clinton officer Mrs. Rose (Hohenshelt) Barker, 88, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Meacham Memorial Chapel of the First Baptist Church in Clinton with Doug Lewis officiating.
Mrs. Barker died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. She was born on Feb. 24, 1911 in Beckham County, the daughter of Charles Albert and Emma (Benham) Hohenshelt.
She attended Beckham County schools and Southwestern State College in Weatherford, teaching school for two years before joining First National Bank.
She worked with all four generations of the Sewell family, receiving a 50-year Banker Award from the Oklahoma Bankers Association.
Mrs. Barker was very active in the Business and Professional Women’s Association and served as state president.
She also was an avid bowler in her younger years and enjoyed playing bridge and traveling.
She was married to J.Z. Barker in 1979, and he preceded her in death.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, John.
Burial will be in the Sayre Doxey Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include a neph-ew, Johnnie R. Hohenshelt of Dallas, Texas; two nieces, Zona Hohenshelt-Mears of Bushland, Texas and Rita Hohenshelt-Bisgrove of Arlington, Va.; a sister-in-law, Altie Tindell-Hohenshelt-Ro-bertson of Dallas, Texas; and a stepdaughter, Wanza Barker-Merrifield of Ponca City.
Clara Fyfe rites today
Funeral services for Clinton area native Mrs. Clara Lavera Fyfe, 80, Midwest City, were held this morning at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Midwest City.
Mrs. Fyfe died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999. She was born on May 2, 1919 on a farm four miles west of Clinton, the daughter of Christian and Matilda Jantz Weil.
She grew up in Bessie and Clinton, graduating from Clinton High School in 1937 and later attending Hill’s Business College in Oklahoma City.
She was married to Ivan Levi Fyfe in Clinton on Nov. 19, 1941. The couple went on to live in Clinton, Belle Plaine, Kans., Covington, Cherokee, Kingfisher, Mus-kogee, Del City and Midwest City. She retired from the Lloyd A. Frye Roofing Company.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1987.
An active member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Midwest City, she participated in choir and the Christian Fellowship Club. She was an artist and also was active in a travel club, a pinochle club and aquatics.
Burial will be in the Sunnylane Cemetery in Del City.
Survivors include two daughters, Vera Aktansel Martson of Norman, Jo Ann Pelz and her husband, Dave, of Austin, Texas; and grandchildren, Suzan Aktansel, Kurt Aktansel, Elizabeth and her husband, Daryl Krause, and David Pelly.
The family suggests that those who desire may make memorial contributions to the Arthritis Foundation in her honor.

Turner rites set Tuesday
A memorial service for Mrs. Etta Lee Turner, 86, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton with Rev. Dale Nease officiating.
Mrs. Turner died Saturday afternoon at the Prairie View Nursing Center in Clinton. She was born on June 21, 1913 in Ruston, La., the daughter of Henry Hamilton Alexander and Sally Hinton Alexander.
Reared in Louisiana, she was married to Earl L. Turner in 1934 at Ruston, and he preceded her in death on May 24, 1991.
She is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University and taught primary and secondary education until her retirement.
After he retirement, she directed the Draughn’s School of Business in Little Rock, Ark. for a number of years.
She was preceded in death by two sisters.
Survivors include three sons, Dr. Charles L. Turner of Clinton, James E. Turner of Clearwater, Fla., Richard W. Turner of Jacksonville, Ark.; four grandsons; six granddaughters; and five great grandchildren.
By request of Mrs. Turner, her body was cremated and the remains will be returned to Ruston, La. and buried later this week.
The family has suggested that those who desire may make memorial contributions to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Clinton or to the Mission House of Clinton in her honor.

Gaston rites set Tuesday
Funeral services for retired businesswoman Mrs. Pauline (Hagemeier) Gaston, 71, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the First Christian Church at Clinton with minister Doyle Kinney officiating.
Mrs. Gaston died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was born on April 2, 1928 at Cordell.
After her birth mother, Ethel, died a few days after she was born, Pauline was adopted by her mother’s brother, Fred, and his wife, Dollie Hagenmeier.
She spent her early years in Roosevelt. She was married to Hubert Gaston on April 17, 1947 at Ashland, Kans., and they made their home in Woodward for a few years before moving to Clinton.
She worked at several cafés, including Pop Hicks and Richardson’s Drug Store.
She and her husband purchased Aden TV Service in 1974, operating the business until their retirement in January of 1995.
During their retirement, they enjoyed camping with family and friends at Boiling Springs State Park north of Woodward.
Mrs. Gaston was a member of the First Christian Church and Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Burial will be in the Roosevelt Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include her son, Alan, and his wife, Diane, of Bethany; three grandchildren, Kari Ann Weir of Edmond, Brigette Combs and her husband, Richard, of Amarillo, Texas, Josua Gaston and his wife, Julie, of Edmond; a great granddaughter, Allison Weir; Kari’s fiancé, Bobby Jackson and his son, Justin; a great grandson-to-be, Westley Brian Combs; and a special cousin, Mildred Curtis of Weatherford.

Funeral services for lifelong Custer County resident F.B. Fergason, 82, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Christian Church of Custer City. Fergason died Friday afternoon, Oct. 29, 1999, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for the former Jody Sights, (Mrs. Nettie Jo Shakespeare, 71) former Clinton resident, were held Thursday in Kingsburg, Calif. She died Tuesday, Oct. 26 [1999].

Carrie Turner death reported
Former Clinton resident Mrs. Carrie Lou Turner, 88, Plano, Texas, died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at the Medical Center Hospital in Plano, it was learned here Friday.
Memorial services were held in Plano and Lubbock, Texas with a private funeral at Hobart.
Mrs. Turner lived in Clinton most of her married life. She was the owner of the N.B. Nash Clothier store here.
Survivors include a sister, Parilee Fleming of Lubbock; a son, Stacy Turner and his wife, Sue, of Dallas, Texas; a nephew, Bill Sullins of Kerrville, Texas; and a grandson, Ward Nash of San Jose, Calif.
The family suggests that those who desire may make memorial contributions in her honor to the American Heart Association or to the charity of their choice.

Velma Messick rites observed
Graveside services for Mrs. Velma Sallee Messick, 98, Cordell, were held Saturday afternoon at the Mountain Park Cemetery with Charles Spencer officiating.
Mrs. Messick died Friday, June 16, 2000, at Clinton. She was born on June 17, 1901 at Mangum, the daughter of J.E. and Nancy Reynolds Sallee.
She lived in Mangum for 16 years after her birth before moving with her parents to northeast of Mountain Park.
She was married to Clyde Messick on Dec. 6, 1919 in Mountain Park. She was a member of the Methodist Church there. Mrs. Messick was a homemaker.
Survivors include grandchildren, Charles Spencer and his wife, Judy, of Oklahoma City, Mari Spencer Fitzgerald and her husband, David, of Oklahoma City, Jerry Don Messick and his wife, Carolyn, of Oklahoma City, Tracey Raymond of Oklahoma City, Mike Sikes and his wife, Vickie, of Kansas, Mark Sikes and his wife, Kathy, of Kansas; a sister, Drusilla Kelley of Clinton; and a brother, Buford Sallee of Cleveland, Tenn.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her husband and parents, by a son, Jerry Messick; a daughter, Geneva Spencer; sisters, Callie Mc-Clure, Zula Hankins, Lennie Pearl Ernest, Alice Oleta Montgomery, Flora Quillen, Opal Miller; and brothers, T.E. Sallee and Doc Sallee.

Ella Wagner services Thursday
Funeral services for Ella Leona (Buehler) Wagner, 74, Clinton, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Trinity Lutheran Church at Clinton with minister Doyle Kinney of the First Christian Church officiating.
Mrs. Wagner died Tuesday morning, Oct. 3, 2000, at the Grace Living Center in Clin-ton. She was born on June 7, 1926 at Clinton, the daughter of Otto and Elizabeth (Weil) Buehler. She attended the Clinton schools.
On Dec. 17, 1944 she was married to Reuben Milton Rose. He preceded her in death in May of 1961.
In November of 1979 she was married to Bobby J. Mc-Cord. He died in August of 1981. On May 1, 1985 she was married to Lealon Wagner. He died three years after their marriage in July of 1988.
Mrs. Wagner was a housewife and loved to make quilts and embroidery for her grandchildren.
She also became a physical therapist, working at the Clinton Veterans Center for eight years and at the Methodist Health Care Center for 11 years.
Mrs. Wagner was a long-time member of the Lutheran Church, being baptized on July 1, 1926 and confirmed in the faith on May 12, 1940.
Burial will be in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau Funeral Home of Clinton.
Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Waltrip and her husband, Denver, of Arapaho; a son, James Rose and his wife, Linda, of Clinton; a stepson, Craig Wagner and his wife, Delberta, of Clinton; a stepdaughter, Susie Bogle and her husband, Robert, of Clinton; a sister, Welda Intemann of Cordell; six grandchildren, Tamara Powell and her husband, Kent, of Clinton, DeAnn Sawyer and her husband, Dax, of Clinton, Sheri Mahanay and her husband, Clint, of Arapaho, Jason Rose and his wife, Sarah, of Stillwater, Julie and Jamie Rose, both of Clinton; a step grandson, Josh Wagner of Clinton; two great grandchildren, Dasha and Daci Sawyer of Clinton.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by an infant sister, Lavera Carolina Beuhler.

Henry Hendrix services held
Funeral services for William Henry Hendrix, 89, Thomas, were held this afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Thomas with Rev. Monte Moran officiating.
Hendrix died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at the Thomas Nursing Center. He was born on March 27, 1911 in Arapaho, the son of George A. and Anna (Tons) Hendrix.
He was reared and attended school in Arapaho, marrying Pearl Jinkins on Sept. 11, 1933 at Arapaho. He continued to live and farm in the Arapaho area until 1945.
In 1946, Hendrix was employed by the Public Service Company in Custer City, and he moved to Thomas in 1952 where he worked for the Water Department before retiring in 1976.
After retirement, he continued to help area farmers. He attended the First Baptist Church in Thomas, and the family suggests that those who desire may make memorial contributions in his honor to that church.
Burial was in the Arapaho Cemetery under the direction of the Lockstone Funeral Home in Thomas.
Survivors include three sons, George Hendrix and his wife, Millie, of Lexington, Richard Hendrix and his wife, Wanda, of Wichita Falls, Texas, Bill Hendrix and his wife, Tinky, of Elk Grove, Calif.; a daughter, Ruby Lee McLinn and her husband, Dale, of Americus, Kans.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; two great-great granddaughters; and a sister, Geneva Ruyle of Tulsa.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents and wife, by a son, H.B. Hendrix; four brothers, Charles, Burt, Lester, Chester; and two sisters, Mary Hendrix and Vivian Spencer.

Dixie Schroder services held
Funeral services for former Vici resident Mrs. Dixie Lee Schroder were held Friday, Dec. 5, at the First United Methodist Church in Vici.
Mrs. Schroder died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at the Prairie View Living Center in Clinton. She was born on May 7, 1905 near Fargo, Okla., the daughter of Wm. Solon and Mamie Porter.
A 1922 graduate of Fargo High School, she went on to continue her education at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva for two years.
She began her teaching career in a one-room country school near Harmon. It was there that she met and later married Clarence Schroder.
In 1927 the Schroders moved for a time to Weatherford where she continued her education and he worked on the campus driving a team of horses while helping in construction of one of classroom buildings that still remains in use there.
After completing requirements for a lifetime teaching certificate, she and her family returned to the Harmon area where she resumed her teaching career until the needs of a growing family forced her to give up classroom teaching. She continued giving private piano lessons in her home.
In 1935 the family moved to the old family homestead four miles southeast of Vici where they continued to live until 1993 when failing health forced them to move to Clinton to be near their daughter and her family.
Mrs. Schroder continued to teach piano and guitar throughout her life and was always active in the musical activities of the community. She also was an avid reader and in later years took up oil painting as a hobby.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents and husband, by her only sister, Blanche Porter; a son, Dale Schroder; and two grandchildren, Richard Waddle and Jacqueline Schroder.
Survivors include her daughter, Virginia Waddle and her husband, Gerald, of Clinton; a son, Clare Schroder of Casper, Wyo. and his wife, Frances, of Campo, Colo.; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and a special caregiver for the past seven years, Lela Mae McGill.

Jack Wickizer funeral Friday
Funeral services for Jack L. Wickizer, 73, Elk City, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Whinery-Savage Funeral Home Chapel in Elk City with Tom Harguess officiating.
Wickizer died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City. He was born on April 21, 1927 in Brookfield, Mo., the son of Ruth Emily (Selle) Wickizer and Mont Wickizer.
He was reared near Gotebo where he attended a one-room school before later moving to Mangum where he graduated from high school.
Wickizer served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946 in the special services. He was married to Leona Francis Reece (Poston) Wickizer on Feb. 7, 1974.
He worked as a radio announcer for several different stations including four years at KTJS Hobart, four at KWHW in Altus, 15 at KWOE in Clinton and at radio stations in Quanah and San Angelo, Texas as well as at Elk City for four years.
He also was a technical engineer for 16 years at KVIJ-TV in Sayre.
Wickizer was preceded in death by his wife and parents. He was a member of the Second And Adams Church of Christ in Elk City.
Burial will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
Survivors include his fiancé, Aggie Abney of Elk City; and other relatives.

Vera Beberniss rites Thursday
Funeral services for Mrs. Vera Mae Beberniss, age 88, Custer City resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of the Lockstone Funeral Home in Weatherford with Brother Todd Derbyshire officiating.
Mrs. Beberniss was born on Nov. 24, 1912 at Indianapolis, Okla., the daughter of Lewis and Lamana (Taylor) Blunck.
Reared in the Indianapolis and Custer City area where she attended school, she graduated from Custer City High School in 1930.
She was married to Emil Rudolph Beberniss on Aug. 15, 1931 in Custer City where they made their home. She had lived in Shawnee and Weatherford as well as Custer City.
Burial will be in the Green-wood Cemetery at Weatherford under the direction of the Lockstone Funeral Home in Weatherford.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Beverly Wil-lis and her husband, Richard, of Lubbock, Texas, Janet Sehi and her husband, Wes-ley, of Weatherford; three great grandchildren, Kathleen McMurray and her husband, Ed, of McGuire Air Force Base, N.J., Justin and Kirk Sehi of Weatherford; a great-great granddaughter, Kasey McMurray of New Jersey; a son-in-law, Clarence (Bud) Endres of Payson, Ariz.; a special friend, Donna Farm-er; and a host of cousins.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents and husband, by a daughter, Phyllis Endres; and a brother, Elgin Blunck.

E. Leon Boggs death reported
Former Clinton resident E. Leon Boggs, age 72, Woodward resident, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, it was learned Tuesday.
He was born on April 19, 1928 at Rhea, the son of Virgil and Octavia Higgins Boggs.
He grew up in Leedey before the family moved to Iowa where they lived for a few years before returning to Leedey where he attended the Rhea and Leedey schools.
On Aug. 22, 1948 he was married to Imogene Forsythe of Leedey and they lived in Clinton for three years where a daughter, Cheryl Jean, was born.
They moved to Woodward in 1951 and a son, Larry Leon, was born there in 1952.
While living in Woodward, Boggs owned two Mobil service stations and Woodward Glass Company.
He was an independent truck driver and raised cattle. Other employment included Raizen Metal Company, Tom’s Peanut Co. and Bruce Electric Co.
After retirement, he drove a school bus for the Woodward Public Schools. He was a very active member of the Jaycees, having served for a time as president.
He accepted Christ at the age of eight and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Woodward, having at one time served as a Sunday school teacher.
Boggs was married to Patricia Joyce Cochran on March 21, 1981 and the couple’s home continued to be in Woodward.
In addition to his first wife, Imogene, and his father, Virgil, he was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Lee.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia, of Woodward; a daughter, Cheryl Mayfield and her husband, Rex, of Millersville, Md.; a son, Larry Boggs and his wife, Lee Ann, of Richmond, Ind.; a grandson, Christopher Crabtree of Millersville, Md.; his mother, Octavia Boggs of Leedey; a sister, Regina Hicks and her husband, Leon, of Broken Arrow; a brother, Kenneth Boggs and his wife, Debbie, of Leedey; an aunt and uncle, Thelma and Dink Driscoll of Clinton; a brother-in-law; stepchildren, Buddy Cochran, Donna Brown, Peggy and Larry Mathes, Jay Cochran; 10 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Melba Scott funeral held
Funeral services for Mrs. Melba Mae (Rogers) Scott), age 86, Thomas resident, were held this afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Thomas with Brad Perkins, Rev. Monte Moran, Charlie Blount and T.C. Perkins officiating.
Mrs. Scott died Monday, April 2, 2001, at the Thomas Living Center. She was born on March 18, 1915 at Oologah, the oldest of four children of John Hogue and Elizabeth (Miller) Rogers.
She came to Clinton as a teen-ager to live with her aunt and uncle, P.O. and Letha Rogers before moving to Thomas where she graduated from high school in 1935.
While attending high school she met John Lloyd Scott and they were married on Dec. 8, 1935 in Thomas.
The couple lived and farmed southeast of Thomas their entire married lives.
In 1936 her niece and nephew, Jack and Eloise Cloud, came to live with them.
On May 16, 1937, a daughter, Zetta Elizabeth, was born. She accepted Christ at an early age. Mrs. Scott enjoyed working with young children and teens.
Later she became Associational G.A. Director and went to Glorietta, N.M. on several occasions. She was a faithful member of the Women’s Missionary Union, having served as president as well as other offices.
Burial will be in the Mound Valley Cemetery at Thomas under the direction of the Lockstone Funeral Home in Thomas.
Survivors include a daughter, Beth Perkins and her husband, Eddie, of Thomas; four grandchildren, Brad Perkins and his wife, Carmen, of Thomas, Tammy Perkins of Childress, Texas, T.C. Perkins of Watonga, Michelle Pruitt and her husband, Benny, of Thomas; five great grandchildren, C.B., Zack and Loren Perkins and Tanner and Anna Pruitt; two nieces, Eloise Keller and Peggy Cloud and many other nieces and nephews.

Savannah died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at her home after a long illness. She was born on Jan. 29, 1984 at Dodge City, Kans., the daughter of Gerald and Rhonda (Humble) McCash.
An honor student, she had just completed her junior year at Webb City High School.
She attended Christ Church of Orongo in Webb City and enjoyed camping, swimming, playing softball, music and playing guitar with her friends.
Burial will be in the Webb City, Mo. Cemetery under the direction of the Parker Funeral Home of Webb City.
Survivors include her parents and two brothers, Keith and Dakota, and two sisters, Miranda and Sadie, all of the home; paternal grandparents, James and Harriet McCash of Welton, Ariz.; maternal grandparents, Howard and Patricia Humble of Dodge City, Kans.; maternal great grandmothers, Geneva Johnston of Dodge City, Kans., Helene Humble of Garden City, Kans.; maternal great-great grandfather, R.L. Funeral services for long-time Eakly farmer and civic leader Rea Gene Oglesby, age 68, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the First United Methodist Church at Eakly with Rev. Roger Parker and Rev. Paul Hudson officiating.
Oglesby died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at his home in Eakly. He was born on Nov. 27, 1932 at the Oglesby Homestead near Eakly, the son of Guy and Helen (Willis) Oglesby, Sr.
After attending elementary school at Hopewell, he grad-uated from Eakly High School in 1951.
He served in Korea with the 45th Division H.Q. Co., 180th Infantry Division from 1952 through 1954.
After his discharge from the Army he returned to Eakly and began farming. For 45 years he raised peanuts, wheat, cotton and cattle.
On Nov. 27, 1956 he was married to Donna Moore in Eakly. He was a member of the Eakly United Methodist Church where he served as trustee, usher and in different capacities over the years.
He also was a board member at the Eakly Farmers Cooperative for 30 years and was Eakly fire chief for 19 years, having recently served as the Eakly mayor and as a member of the Eakly Town Board.
Oglesby belonged to the Eakly American Legion Post No. 312, having served as post commander.
Burial will be in the Eakly Cemetery under the direction of the Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford.
Survivors include his wife, Donna, of the home; two sons, Matt Oglesby and his wife, Vicki, of Woodlands, Texas, Todd Oglesby of Eakly; a daughter, Traci Archer and her husband, Junior, of Clinton; a brother, Guy Oglesby and his wqife, Melba, of Eakly; two sisters, Gail Gerdeman and her husband, Bob, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Kay Williams and her husband, Jerry, of Eakly; a brother-in-law, Bob Smith of Weatherford; five grandsons, Devin, Colin and Hunter Oglesby, Colby and Jacob Archer; two granddaughters, larken and Erin Oglesby.

Funeral services for Herbert N. Doan, age 76, Smithville resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Cedar Creek Church of Christ in Smithville.
Doan died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. He was born on March 29, 1925 in Glover, the son of Lee and Lottie (Virgin) Doan.
He was reared in eastern Oklahoma and spent most of his life in the Broken Bow area, working for a number of years for McCurtain County.
Following his marriage on July 10, 1965 to Miss Marie Murphy at Idabelle, the couple made their home in Smithville and spent a lot of time in Butler where her family lived.
He was employed with Beaver Bend State Park since 1966, and he retired in 1988.
Doan was a member of the Church of Christ. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt. He loved the mountains of Eastern Oklahoma. Doan played the guitar and especially liked bluegrass music. He was a New York Yankees baseball fan.
For the past several years he and his wife had come back to this area to help farm and harvest wheat. He became disabled four years ago from complications after a bypass surgery.
Doan was preceded in death, along with his parents, by a sister, Velva Duke; and three brothers, Huebert Doan, Cecil Doan and Willie Doan.
Burial will be in the Smithville Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

Gilliam died Sunday, June 10, 2001, in Clinton. He was born on Feb. 4, 1926 in Gould, the son of William and Margaret (Dudley) Gilliam.
He had worked as a mechanic and crane operator for Concrete Inc. since 1959 until they were sold to Dolese and then worked for Dolese until his retirement in 1992.
Gilliam was a member of the First Pentecostal Church of God in Clinton.

Funeral services for Jimmie Wayne Allen, age 54, Clinton resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Gotebo Baptist Church with Rev. Kris Ramber officiating.
Allen died Friday afternoon, June 8, 2001, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. He was born on Jan. 18, 1947 in Sentinel, the son of Robert M. and Dorotha Thurman Allen.
Since his father was in the construction business, the Allens traveled extensively, and he attended several different schools in his 12 years of education.
Allen spent most of his life working in highway construction and truck driving. At the time of his death he was employed by John Cornell Construction where he had worked for several years.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include his daughter, Nikki Dodd, and grandson, Sy Dodd, both of Gotebo; his mother, Dorothy of Clinton; and a sister, Shirley Penn, and niece, Mandi Penn, both of Ada.

Funeral services for Cordell businesswoman Mrs. Cathern Mae Matlage, age 76, were held Saturday afternoon at the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Cordell with burial in the Gotebo Cemetery.
Mrs. Matlage died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, in Oklahoma City. She was born on Dec. 16, 1924 in Gotebo, the daughter of Henry Pleas and Mattie (Reid) Pate. A former waitress and secretary, she was operating her own income tax and bookkeeping service at the time of her death.

Funeral services for Mrs. Vesta Rachel Stewart, age 81, Yukon resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Elk Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Henry Newman and Elder Norman Jones officiating.
Mrs. Stewart died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at her home in Yukon. She was born on March 13, 1920 west of Dill City on the home place of her parents, Cicero Ewing and Mittie Lou (Thompson) Morris.
She was married to James T. Stewart on April 29, 1944 in Sayre. The Stewarts farmed in the Burns Flat/Dill City area all of their married life and reared two daughters — two other children died in infancy.
Following her husband’s death in 1991, Mrs. Stewart moved to Yukon in 1998 and lived there until her death. She was a member of the Elk Creek Primitive Baptist Church and loved to quilt and garden.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by the two infant children, daughter Flora Louise and son Ernest Wayne; her parents; and two sisters, Georgie and Gertrude.
Interment will be in the South Burns Cemetery under the direction of the McClure Funeral Home in Cordell.

Bill Delk services planned Monday - @ 2:54 pm PST
Bill Delk, former Clinton “Man of the Year” who had played Santa Claus to many a local youngster over the years, died early this morning (Thursday, June 7, 2001) at Corn Heritage Village in Corn. He was 68 and had suffered for some time with diabetes, heart problems and other ailments.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Centerpoint Cemetery near Putnam. A “celebration of life” will follow at 2 p.m. that day at the Clinton Church of Christ with Pat Peters and Bill’s son, Garland Delk, officiating.
Delk was born Sept. 3, 1932, at Lake Valley, the son of Raymond and Jewell (Deputy) Delk. In 1934 his family moved to Clinton where he lived the rest of his life, except for nine months at Woodward in the 1950s and the last year which he alternated between hospitals and the care center in Corn.
A 1950 graduate of Clinton High School, Delk worked as a young man for McClellan’s Variety Store, for Bills Bakery as a route salesman, and for the Nash-Finch Company in the warehouse and as a salesman. It was during the latter employment that he lived in Woodward.
In 1957 Delk began work in the auto parts business. He was employed first by Mahanay Brothers, then had his own Hub City Auto Parts for several years before ending his career with Clinton Auto Supply.
As a parts supplier, he spent many summer evenings assisting stranded motorists or helping farmers trying to complete wheat harvest.
He was a Clinton volunteer fireman for 20 years, and for several years he was the moving force behind the Western Oklahoma Livestock Show. His work with youth earned him honorary membership in the Clinton chapter of Future Farmers of America, as well as an Honorary State Farmer designation.
Delk served three terms on the Clinton Board of Education and was named “Man of the Year” in 1978 by the Chamber of Commerce. He was president of the Clinton Lions Club in 1976 and ’77.
But it was his “work” as Santa Claus that he enjoyed most. He began that duty as a teenager at a church social and continued it until his health began to fail in 1998. He not only brought smiles to the children of the community but to adults and the elderly as well, carrying his bag of goodies to schools, civic clubs, nursing homes and the Veterans Center.
He also enjoyed cooking, especially smoked meats and baked beans.
Delk was a longtime member of the Broadway Heights Baptist Church which his parents helped organize. He committed his life to Christ as a teenager, was ordained as a deacon in 1962, and served as Sunday school superintendent intermittently for 25 years. He also taught Sunday school classes himself.
In 1998, at the time of his second marriage, he became a member of the Custer Avenue Church of Christ.
He was married first to his high school sweetheart, the former Dee Ola Addington, on April 6, 1951. They lived on a farm east of Clinton.
Following her death in 1996, he married Barbara Powers in 1998.
She survives, along with his three children and eight grandchildren. The children and their families are daughter Pam Sauer of Broken Arrow, her husband Don, and children Nik, Becky and Megan; son Garland of El Reno, his wife Susan, and children Chelsea and Cody; and daughter Katherine Hinds of Clinton, her husband Alexisor, and children Joe, Walker, Katelynne and Ethan.
Also surviving are Delk’s mothers-in-law, Ruby Addington of Oklahoma City and Reva Williams, Clinton; five step-children, Mark Powers of Anaheim, Calif., Beth Holmes, Orlando, Fla., Donna Miller, Orange, Calif., Lisa Schilling, San Diego, Calif., and Scott Powers, Clinton; 16 step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one bro-ther, Clarence.

Funeral services for Bobby Yeager, 64, former district manager for BJ Services in Clinton, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Yeager died early Wednesday morning, June 6, 2001, at his Clinton home after a battle with cancer.
Rev. Dale Nease will officiate at the funeral, with burial following at 4 p.m. in Westlawn Memorial Park at Borger, Texas. Stanley-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton is in charge of arrangements.
Bobby Paul Yeager was born Feb. 18, 1937, the son of Elmer and Cora (Bradley) Yeager, at Crockett, Texas. He lived in Crockett, in east Texas, until age 10 when his family moved to Borger in the Texas Panhandle.
After graduating from Borger High School, he married Narbara Scott on Aug. 18, 1956, at Clayton, N.M.
In 1961 Yeager began working for the Western Company, an oil field servicing firm that later became BJ Services. Over the years he traveled extensively for the company, both in the United States and overseas.
He and his wife moved to Clinton in 1982 after the Western Company opened its facility here. He stayed on after the company became BJ Services, retiring as district manager on May 1, 2000.
Yeager enjoyed woodworking and working on cars, as well as go-kart racing with his grandsons.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He also held membership in Masonic Lodge No. 1242 of Borger, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Narbara, of the home in Clinton; one daughter, Gaylene Ayers (and her husband, Billy), of Arapaho; two sons, Scott Yeager (and wife Laura), of Newcastle, and Stewart Yeager, Clinton; two sisters, Sue Pipkin, Strasburg, Colo., and Becky Murley, Fritch, Texas; one brother, Billy Yeager, Sidney, Mont.; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services for Ed Pittman, brother of Lois Williams of Clinton, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Washington Street Baptist Church in Hobart.
Pittman, 79, died Tuesday morning at Elk View Hospital in Hobart. He was a longtime Hobart resident.
Burial will be in the Hobart Rose Cemetery under direction of Peoples Cooperative Funeral Home of Lone Wolf.

Gossom, William Joel, 77, passed away June 4, 2001 in Tulsa, OK. Born February 22, 1924 in Custer City, OK to Kelley and Elizabeth Gossom. Graduate of Clinton High School. Received his Bachelors degree from OU. Army veteran of WWII.
He was a member of Delta Masonic Lodge #425. Tulsa Scottish Rite 32 degree Mason, and Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Professional Registered Engineer in several states. Member of First Baptist Church.
Survived by wife of 23 years, Wanda (Wren) Gossom, children, Kelley Dee and Joyce Gossom, Tulsa, OK, Deborah and Mark Broome of Tulsa, OK, and Dennis Steil and Cynthia Camille of Durham, NC; one grandson, Douglas Grady Steil; many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 8, 2001 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel with internment at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Lee Wagnon-Canning, 81, of Clinton, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dale Nease officiating.
The former Ruby Lee Springer was born Nov. 1, 1919, at Cordell to Judge Joseph Green Springer and Cora Mae (Goleanor) Springer. She died Monday, June 4, 2001, at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City following a short illness.
She spent her early childhood in Cordell where her father served as a judge and was the county attorney for Washita County from 1919 through 1929. He died in 1930 and her mother in 1931.
At 10 years of age, Ruby went to live with her sister, Mrs. George (Stella) Barrow, in Canute.
On Aug. 2, 1937, she married Othor Cleon "O.C." Wagnon in Cordell, and they made their home at Clinton. He preceded her in death in 1984.
Ruby Lee worked as a dietician for the local nursing homes.
After retirement she was involved in AARP. There she met Daniel "Dan" Canning and on Oct. 2, 1989, they were married in Clinton. He preceded her in death in 1993.
Mrs. Canning was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and before her death had been attending Life and Praise Fellowship Church where her son is pastor.
She was preceded in death by four sisters; Mrs. George (Stella) Barrow, Mrs. Jack (Lucille) Smith, Mrs. Carl (Gladys) Lucas and Mrs. Guy (Beulah) Burney; four brothers, Martin Luther Springer, Jesse Randall Springer, James (Raymond) Springer and J.G. (Jake) Springer; and one grandson, Allen Lee Webb.
She is survived by three children, Gatha Webb and her husband Don, of Charlotte, N.C., Pastor Richard Wagnon and wife Darla, and Linda Caler and husband Tom, all of Clinton; one sister, James (Inice) Keltner, Spring, Texas; seven grandchildren: Mrs. Todd (Angela) Graden, North Carolina, Rick Wagnon, Midwest City, Keith Wagnon and wife Kalee, Glenpool, Kenneth Wagnon, Weatherford, David Caler and wife Angie, Clinton, Randy Caler and wife Michele, Tulsa, and Dennis Caler and wife Angie, Clinton; and four great-grandchildren: Lauren Renee' Wagnon and Kaitlin Brooke Wagnon, Glenpool, and Zachary Thomas Caler and Dylan Biggs Caler, both of Clinton.
Burial will conclude in the Lawnview Cemetery at Cordell under direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home.

Regier rites held Monday - @ 3:58 pm PST
Final rites for Edwin Doyl Regier, 65, were held Monday at the Herold Mennonite Church northeast of Cordell.
Regier died Saturday, June 2, 2001, on the same family farm northeast of Cordell where he was born Nov. 29, 1935. He had been in poor health for some time.
The son of Arthur and Emma (Friesen) Regier, he worked alongside his father on the farm until his father’s death in 1970. Since then he had managed the farm himself.
Regier was a 43-year member of the Herold Mennonite Church and attended services regularly as long as his health permitted. Burial was in the Herold Mennonite Cemetery under direction of the Jack Loftiss Funeral Home of Cordell.
Survivors include one sister, Lorene Regier of Cordell; one sister-in-law, Edith Regier, Corn; one niece, Sondra Parks, Brownsville, Texas; and one nephew, Calvin Regier, Mountain View.
Besides his parents, Regier was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Regier, and one brother, Arthur Regier.

Fisher rites in Bridgeport - @ 3:57 pm PST
Funeral services for O.R. Fisher, 84, grandfather of Elk City businessman and former Clinton resident Doug Gray, were scheduled this afternoon (Tuesday) at the United Methodist Church in Bridgeport.
Rev. William Jenkins of the First Assembly of God Church in Clinton was to officiate at the services with burial following in the Graceland Cemetery at Bridgeport under direction of the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home.
Fisher died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at his home in Bridgeport following an extended illness.
He was born Oct. 24, 1917, to Earl and Bessie Fisher in Los Angeles, Calif., but lived most of his life in Caddo County, Oklahoma. On March 14, 1937, he married Edith Mae Huey at Bridgeport.
As a young man, Fisher worked on the railroad. He later farmed and ginned cotton during cotton season, and he also was employed by Caddo County as a grader operator for nine years.
Survivors include his wife, Edith, of the home in Bridgeport; three daughters, Jo Ella Hartman (and husband Kenneth), Wichita, Kan., Geneva Gray (and husband Jerry), Lookeba, and Wanda Barks (and husband Bennie), El Reno; one brother, Marvin Fisher, El Reno; one sister, Alma Lee Kranpien, Sun City, Ariz.; nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Fisher was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers: Blanche Eiklor, Jewell Young, Hazel Morris, Nella Jo Nelson, Ray Fisher, Millard Fisher and Orvil Fisher.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dollie Gertrude Weightman, age 93, Gould resident, were held at 1:30 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Gould with Rev. Rick Simonson officiating.
Mrs. Weightman died Friday, June 1, 2001, at Custer City. She was born on July 23, 1907 in Sayre, the daughter of Samuel Frank and Nerva Crosby Lowry.
She was married to Earvin Weightman on June 4, 1924 at Hollis, and she was a housewife who enjoyed rearing her family and working on the farm northwest of Gould.
Burial will be in the Fairmont Cemetery under the direction of the Stewart Funeral Service in Hollis.
Survivors include two sons, Hermin and his wife, Inez, of Port Isabelle, Texas, Kenneth and his wife, Jean, of Custer City; two daughters, Lola Bell Wilson of Walters, Dollie Deloris of Altus; nine grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and four brothers.

Crawford rites Wednesday - @ 2:36 pm PST
Funeral services for Freddie Wayne Crawford, 20, who lived most of his life in Clinton before moving to Oklahoma City approximately four years ago, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bethany Baptist Church in Clinton.
Crawford died Thursday, May 31, 2001, of a gunshot wound at his Oklahoma City home.
Born Sept. 28, 1980, in Clinton, he was the son of Freddie Lee “Pokey” Crawford Jr. and Wilma Jean (Randle) Crawford. Growing up here, he attended Clinton schools and was active in all sports, participating in high school on the Red Tornado football and wrestling teams.
He moved his sophomore year to Oklahoma City where he attended U.S. Grant High School.
Crawford was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Church and sang in the choir.
Survivors include one daughter, Sunsheona Angleia Crawford of Seattle, Wash.; one son, Sabrin Crawford, Clinton; his companion, LaSonya Lynn Nelson, Oklaho-ma City; his father, Freddie Crawford, Oklahoma City; his mother, Wilma Jean Crawford, Clinton; three sisters, Staci Nelson, El Reno, Veronica Crawford, Frederick, and Latuisha Crawford, Clinton; two brothers, Jason Crawford, Oklahoma City, and Pierre Crawford, Clinton; his paternal grandmother, Vera Dickson, Oklahoma City; and his maternal grandmother, Lillie Belle Randle, Clinton.
Crawford was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Freddie Lee Crawford Sr.; his paternal great-grandparents, A.D. and Bertha Favors; his maternal grandfather, Ervan Randle; and one aunt, Janice Randle.
Rev. Ezra Randle, Rev. Leonard Derrick and Rev. Terry Jackson will officiate at the funeral. Burial will be in the Clinton Cemetery under direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home.

Christine Kolb rites Tuesday - @ 10:29 am PST
Funeral services for Mrs. Christine Kolb, age 90, Clinton resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Peace Lutheran Church in Bessie with Pastor David Darling officiating.
Mrs. Kolb died Thursday, May 31, 2001, in Clinton. She was born on Aug. 30, 1910, the daughter of Phillip and Freda (Baisch) Little.
She was baptized into the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church at Bessie.
After marriage to Christian Kolb Jr. on June 12, 1927 they resided on a farm five miles southwest of Clinton.
They retired to Clinton 33 years ago and had remained in their home until three years ago when she moved to the Methodist Health Care Center in Clinton.
Mrs. Kolb was a homemaker who helped on their farm. She was an outstanding cook and accomplished seamstress who sewed home décor for the public for a few years.
She also enjoyed her flower beds and vegetable garden as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Burial will be in the Peace Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include two daughters, Juanita Reinschmiedt and her husband, Ruben, of Clinton, Alnita Sawatzky and her husband, Alfred, of Clinton; four grandchildren, Larry Reinschmiedt and his wife, Sharon, of Double Oak, Texas, Linda Jones and her husband, Kerry, of Oklahoma City, Brenda Fast and her husband, Kirk, of Clinton, Lawrence Sawatzky and his wife, Paula, of Clinton; six great grandchildren, Heather Reinschmiedt of Dallas, Texas, Shawn Reinschmiedt of Austin, Texas, Stacie Sawatzky, Sarah Fast and Rachael Fast, all of Clinton, Steven Sawatzky of Clinton; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Littke of Clinton.
She was preceded in death, along with her parents and husband, by six brothers, Phillip, Adolph, John, Dave, Henry, Jake; and three sisters, Emelia Littke, Tillie Hicks and Ida Stehr.

Elma Shorter rites Monday - @ 10:28 am PST
Funeral services for Mrs. Elma Estalene (Billie) Shorter, age 88, long-time Clinton and Foss area resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the memorial chapel of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton.
Mrs. Shorter died Friday, June 1, 2001, following a long illness. She was born on Nov. 27, 1912 on a farm southeast of Foss in Washita County, the youngest of 13 children of Napoleon Clayton and Dora Ruth (Reeder) Browning.
All of her brothers and sisters have preceded her in death, along with her parents.
She finished her high school requirements in 1956 at Foss High School along with her youngest daughter Billie.
Mrs. Shorter went on to become a licensed beautician and owned and operated Estalene’s beauty shop in Burns Flat until she retired in 1975.
She was married to Darrell D. Shorter on Oct. 9, 1931, and they settled in the Clinton and Foss area.
The Shorters relocated to the Muldrow area where she remained until her death. Her husband preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 1980.
Burial will be in the Page Cemetery.
Survivors include three children, Geraldine Peery and her husband, Vern, of Tecumseh, Frankie Shorter and his wife, Patty, of Mustang, Billie Armer and her husband, L.G., of Muldrow; seven grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie J. Reimer, age 82, Corn resident, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 4, at the Mennonite Brethren Church in Corn with Rev. Ken Gardner and Rev. John Flaming officiating.
Mrs. Reimer died Thursday, May 31, 2001. She was born July 1, 1918 in Corn, the daughter of J.J. and Minnie (Hiebert) Regier.
She grew up in the Corn area, graduating from Corn Bible Academy and Corn High School.
Her husband was Eugene H. Reimer whom she married on Nov. 20, 1941 in Corn, and he preceded her in death.
Mrs. Reimer was a housewife who enjoyed quilting and activities in the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church.
Burial will be in the Mennonite Brethren Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home of Clinton.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen J. Neufeld and her husband, Leon, of Fairview, Phyllis Pankratz and her husband, Richard, of Topeka, Kans.; a brother, Henry Regier and his wife, Freda, of Corn; a sister, Alvina Bergman of Corn; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Regier of Weatherford, Virginia Reimer of Port Neches, Texas; three grandchildren, Scott Neufeld and his wife, Brenda, of Fiarview, Sherry Rempel and her husband, Darren, of Huron, S.D., Kristi Pankratz of Topeka, Kans.; four great grandchildren, Crissa and Caleb Neufeld of Fairview, Kaitlyn and Kylie Rempel of Huron, S.D.
Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Clara Reimer, Tena Regier; and three brothers, Barney Regier, Jake Regier and John Regier.

Auto victim's rites planned - @ 2:49 pm PST
Funeral services for Jeffrey Scott Roberson, 24, a relative newlywed who had been married only three months, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Assembly of God Church in Weatherford.
Roberson was killed Wednesday evening when his car ran off a Blaine County road northwest of Hydro and hit a telephone pole. He had lived most of his life in Weatherford.
Born Oct. 25, 1976, at Seminole, he was the son of Leroy and Mary (Ferguson) Roberson. He grew up at Weatherford where he graduated from high school in 1995.
On March 1 this year, Roberson married Jamie Turner at Fort Smith, Ark. They had made their home in Weatherford where he was employed by Griffco Services Inc. He also had worked for Ralph’s Plumbing.
Besides his wife, Roberson is survived by his parents, Leroy and Mary Roberson of Weatherford; one brother, Michael Roberson, and his wife, Deonda, of Weatherford; his maternal grandparents, Elmer and Johnnie Ferguson, Prague; his paternal grandmother, Marcine Roberson, Seminole; his paternal great-grandmother, Bertha Mainord, Seminole; and two nieces, Rilee and Bailee Roberson, Weatherford. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, William Roberson.
Rick Freeman will officiate at the funeral. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Weatherford under direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.

Bauder rites to be Friday - @ 2:46 pm PST
A graveside service for Lawrence A. Bauder, age 56, U.S. Air Force retired, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Clinton Cemetery with Chaplain Dan Day officiating.
Bauder died early Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born on May 15, 1944 at Independence, Mo., the son of Avery and Lillian (Wilson) Bauder.
He spent 24 years in the Air Force, including much of his later stint at Altus Air Force Base.
Bauder was admitted to the Clinton Veterans Center in November of 1993 and had been a resident there since that time. He was a member of the Methodist faith.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Bauder, Jr. and Charles Bauder, both of the Dallas, Texas area.

Marvin Schmidt rites on Sunday - @ 2:43 pm PST
A memorial service for Marvin Harold Schmidt, age 64, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 3, at the First Mennonite Church in Clinton with ministers Dave Gerbrandt, Arlee Johnson and Dan Day officiating.
Schmidt died May 26, 2001 on a missionary trip to Salzburg, Austria. He was born on Dec. 19, 1936 in Cordell, the son of Albert and Esther (Nikkel) Schmidt.
Starting schooling at a country school near Bessie, he attended the Weatherford schools and then graduated from Corn Bible Academy in 1954.
It was while attending Tabor College for one year that he met Eunice Hoeffer whom he would marry one year later. The young couple made their home in Weatherford and both graduated from Southwestern State College.
The couple then moved to Fresno, Calif. where he attended a Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminar.
As an ordained Mennonite Brethren minister he served churches in Minneapolis, Minn., Cimarron, Kans., Topeka, Kans. and Edmond, Alberta, Canada.
The family remained in the ministry in Canada, serving at Red Deer, alberta and Langley, British Columbia.
Schmidt retired from the Langley church but continued to work in the church conference and serving as an interim pastor when needed as well as authoring Sunday school curriculum and devotionals.
Eventually he and his wife purchased a home on Pender Island between mainland Canada and Vancouver Island where he did wildlife and landscape painting.
The minister was preceded in death by his parents; an uncle, Irving Schmidt; and a cousin, Leroy Schmidt.
Survivors include his wife, Eunice; a daughter, Colette Siebert and her husband, Loren, and two grandsons, Calvin and Carter, all of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; two sons, Bevin and his wife, Darlene, and granddaughters, Stephanie and Danielle, all of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Bryan of Guadalajara, Mex-ico; a brother, Milton and his wife, Ellen, of Tulsa; his stepmother, Rachel Schmidt of Clinton; and his aunts and uncles, Ed and Mary Schmidt of Cordell, Neva and Elmer Sawatsky and Linda Schmidt of Clinton and Simon “Bud” Nikkel.

Funeral services for Grady McCorkle, age 92, Midwest City resident, were held this morning at the Bill Eisenhour Southeast Funeral Home in Del City with burial in the Arlington Cemetery.
McCorkle was born on July 5, 1908 in western Oklahoma, the son of William P. and Maggie McCorkle. He and his family moved to Midwest City in 1945. He died Sunday, May 27, 2001.

Mrs. Carole Ann Rodgers, age 60, Rocky resident, died Thursday, May 24, 2001.
She was born in Omaha, Neb. on April 29, 1941, the daughter of Thomas John and Verla Wilson Lombard, and was reared in Los Angeles, Calif. where she and her husband, Charles L. “Chuck” Rodgers, operated a catering business.
Mrs. Rodgers had worked at both the Cordell Christian Home and the Corn Heritage Village.

Perry Phillips services held - @ 12:38 pm PST
Funeral services for Perry Lowell Phillips, age 51, Tulsa resident, were held on May 24 at the First Christian Church in Tulsa, it was learned this week.
Phillips died on his birthday, May 21, 2001, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. He was born in Tulsa on May 21, 1950, the son of J. Lowell and June Phillips.
Growing up in Clinton and Duncan, he graduated from Duncan High School in 1968 and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Art from Southwestern State College in Weatherford in May of 1972 where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
Phillips went on to complete his Masters of Teaching Arts at the University of Tulsa in August of 1975, serving as a graduate assistant at Oral Roberts University.
In addition, he taught at St. Mary’s Catholic School.
In 1975 he was hired by Broken Arrow Schools to teach elementary physical education, teaching at Northeast Elementary, Special Services and Arrow Springs Elementary.
He was involved with Special Olympics for many years and was a finalist for Teacher of the Year in 1988.
After 25 years of service he retired in May of last year.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Tulsa where he served as an elder.
A private graveside service was held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa.
Survivors include his wife, Betsi, daughter, Sarah and son, Mark, all of the home; parents, J. Lowell and June Phillips of Tulsa; a sister, Elaine Fox and her husband, Greg, of Stillwater; and his wife’s parents, Dr. Eric and Mary Williams of Stillwater.
The family suggests that those who desire may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, First Christian Church Endowment Fund or Children’s Ministry; or to the charity of the person’s choice.

Geneva Choplin rites Wednesday - @ 4:08 pm PST
Funeral services for Mrs. Geneva Pauline (Lachman) Choplin, age 85, Arapaho resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Free Will Baptist Church at Clinton with Rev. Loyd Hall, Rev. Wendell Folsom and Rev. Clarence “Sandy” Shepherd officiating.
Mrs. Choplin died Saturday afternoon at the Integris Clinton Regional Hospital Emergency Room. She was born on Aug. 9, 1915 near Butler, the daughter of Joseph and Julia (Skocdopole) Lachman.
Living most of her early life in the Antioch Community and attending the Antioch School as well as the Antioch Free Will Baptist Church, she was married to Devert Choplin on Oct. 15, 1932 near Butler.
They made their first home on a farm near Butler before later moving to Arapaho where Mrs. Choplin was active in quilting, sewing and Extension Homemaker groups. She enjoyed working on the genealogy of her family.
Mrs. Choplin was a member of the First Baptist Church in Arapaho. She spent many summers at Falls Creek Baptist Camp near Davis cooking for the young people.
She also was active in Boy Scouts, 4-H and FFA when her son, Troy, was a member.
Mrs. Choplin was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; six sisters; and her daughter, Virginia Fancher.
Burial will follow in the Antioch Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include her husband, Devert, of the home; three sons, Curtis Choplin of North Augusta, S.C., Jimmie Choplin and Troy Choplin, both of Glenco; seven grandchildren, Paula Shryock, Mark Choplin, Donna Hartshorn, Curtis Choplin Jr., Troy Choplin Jr., Crystal Stephens, Gary Ray Fancher; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Ewell Arvis Dickerson, age 87, Enid resident and former Clinton resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Arapaho First Assembly of God Church with church minister Rev. Lee Gleason and Rev. Dan Heath officiating.
Dickerson died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Enid. He was born on Aug. 2, 1913 at Rhea, the son of Minnis Orley and Alta Mae (Bowman) Dickerson.
He was married to Ora Pearl Clark on Aug. 8, 1931 in Custer county. they farmed for a number of years.
His other positions over the years included working for the county; owning and operating the Anthon Store; and owning a Conoco service station at North Sixth and Nowahy in Clinton.
Dickerson worked for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation for more than 18 years.
He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Enid and also the Men’s Garden Club and the Enid Singles Pitch Club.
Burial will be in the Arapaho Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include a son, Wayne Dickerson and his wife, Dortha, of El Reno; a daughter, Delores (Dee) Boggs and her husband, Braxton (Rick); a brother, Truman Dickerson and his wife, Evelyn, of Oklahoma City; a sister, Reba Lanier of Clinton; grandchildren, Larry Dickerson, Lowell Dickerson, Braxton M. Boggs II, Lisa M. Boggs, Ana L. Drake; six great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Charlene L. (Loneman) Miller, age 31, El Reno resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the El Reno Indian Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Stoneroad and Rev. Jo Ann Williams officiating.
Mrs. Charlene Lynn Miller died very unexpectedly Friday, May 18, 2001, at the El Reno home of her grandmother. She was born on April 29, 1970 in Clinton, the daughter of Theodore Roman Nose and Edna Loneman.
Mrs. Miller was reared in Watonga and attended school there. She was married to Charles Miller Jr. on Sept. 10, 1999 in El Reno, and they had made their home in El Reno since that time.
In 1988 she was Club Princess of the Oklahoma Inter-Tribal Veterans Pow Wow club for the late James Hawk, the late Willie Meeks and the late John Whitebuffalo.
She was a member of the El Reno Indian Baptist Church and the Wade Street Mission.
Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by a son, Brandon, in 1997.
Burial will follow the services Friday in the Concho Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton.
Survivors include her husband, Charles, of the home; two daughters, Tiffany and Carmilla; a son, Christopher; her parents, Theodore Roman Nose of California and Edna Loneman of El Reno; a brother, Jared Roman Nose of California; and her grandmother, Nina Antelope of El Reno.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lura Lee Longcrier, age 72, Pryor resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Pleasant View Baptist Church west of Pryor with Rev. Jerold Pilant officiating.
Mrs. Longcrier died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at the Claremore Regional Hospital following several months of deteriorating health. She was born on May 5, 1929 at Stinnett, Texas, the daughter of Ernest and Luraetta (Reeves) Groves.
Mrs. Longcrier was reared in Texas and graduated from Phillips High School in Texas. She was married to H.J. “Herb” Longcrier on April 14, 1963 in Watonga, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1991.
The couple moved to Pryor and Mayes County in 1970 from Clarksville, Tenn. For several years they owned and operated the Branding Iron Restaurant west of Pryor; Hereford House Restaurant in Pryor; and the Cattlemen’s Restaurant in Chelsea.
Later, she worked at Sav-Mor Food Center in Pryor for more than five years.
She was a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church. She enjoyed working with horses and cattle as well as doing yard work, gardening, needlepoint and embroidering.
Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery at Pryor under the direction of Garner’s Jim Green Funeral Home in Pryor.
Survivors include daughters, Susan Powers and her husband, Allen, of Pryor, Myra Wood and her husband, David, of Claremore; sons, Joe Hough and his wife, Rosemarie, of Pryor, Terry Hough and his wife, Sandra, of Clinton; grandchildren, Shawn, James, Danetta, Thomas, Bayley, Morgan, Chris, Jessica, Matthew, Jay, Elizabeth, Julia, Patricia, Emily; 10 great grandchildren; and a sister, Teenie Lanham and her husband, Tuffy, of Dumas, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Aline Kingsley, age 80, Medford, Ore., will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of the Hillcrest Mortuary in Medford with Brother Elliott Lovelace of the Talent Friends Chapel officiating.
Mrs. Kingsley died Monday, May 21, 2001, at her home. She was born on Aug. 9, 1920 at Houston, Texas, the daughter of Clarence and Ethel Byfield.
Growing up just outside Butler, she was married to J.W. Kingsley on Feb. 17, 1938 in Cordell. Her husband preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 1996.
She had lived around the Medford, Ore. area since 1983, living in Ashland until then. She had been a seasonal worker for the Bagley Cannery and Bear Creek Corp.
Mrs. Kingsley was known for taking yearly trips to Kellogg Beach, Calif. and to Butler.
She was a former member of the Ashland Baptist Church as well as the Ashland Parent-Teacher Organization.
Burial will be in the Hillcrest Memorial Park at Medford.
Survivors include two daughters, Lovena Hackworth of Medford, Ore., Joyce Baugus of Red Bluff, Calif.; two sisters, Leona Urshler of Warr Acres, Nodena Stanley of Arapaho; several grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren as well as one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her husband and parents, by three sisters.

Charles Howell “Chuck” Parrish, age 57, Clinton resident, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, in Oklahoma City. He was born on Aug. 29, 1944 in Chattanooga, Tenn., the son of William Arley and Wilma Arlene (Boyd) Parrish.
Parrish was a musician who played bass guitar for several years.
He was married to Janice Burgardt on July 13, 1978 at Independence, Mo. and had lived in Clinton since 1979.
Upon the deceased’s request there will be no funeral service.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Parrish of the home; a son, William Howard Parrish of Tempe, Ariz.; a daughter, Charlene Atwood of Nashville, Tenn.; and two sisters, Susy Haws of Orlando, Fla. and Cathy Rash of Georgia.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by a brother, Stanley Parrish.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gayle (Fransen) Kelly, age 57, Clinton resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at the First Christian Church in Clinton with church minister Doyle Kinney officiating.
Mrs. Kelly died very unexpectedly Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at her Clinton home. She was born on Oct. 29, 1943 in Hinton, the daughter of John and Zelma (Schmidt) Fransen.
A 1961 graduate of Clinton High School, she attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University and earned a degree in accounting.
She worked for the Federal Aviation Administration in Oklahoma City where she met her future husband, Don Kelly.
They were married on Nov. 4, 1978 at Oklahoma City, and they made their home in Guthrie.
After short stints in Fort Worth, Texas and Baton Rouge, La., the Kellys moved back to Clinton in 1988 where she was employed with 3M at Weatherford for a short time.
She had spent the last few years helping her husband in his siding business and rearing her family.
Mrs. Kelly was active in prayer groups among close friends and enjoyed attending City Council meetings.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include her husband, Don Kelly, of the Clinton home; two sons, Jake and his wife, Elizabeth, of Clinton, Michael of Stillwater; a sister, Joan Fransen of Clinton; two brothers, Gordon of Lubbock, Texas, Wilfred Fransen of Clinton; and a granddaughter, Alexandria.

Funeral services for Ms. Carlene Brown, age 66, Clinton resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at the Memorial Chapel of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Stewart officiating.
Ms. Brown died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Clinton. She was born on June 11, 1935 at Ada, the daughter of Vernon and Anna Mae (Hobbs) Dyer.
She worked for 13 years at the Bristow Medical Center as materials manager before retiring this year.
A member of the Baptist faith, she enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles and playing Nintendo.
Interment will be in the Clinton Cemetery.
Survivors include a son, David Farnsworth of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Dianna Bethany and her husband, Robert, of Catoosa, Kathy Kinder and her husband, Leon, of Clinton; two brothers, Donald (Sonny) Dyer of Odessa, Texas, Vernon (Red) Dyer of Roswell, N.M.; a sister, Linda Newton of Hobbs, N.M.; four grandchildren, Erika Hester, Katie Hickman, Paul Daniels, Kimberlee Daniels and Miranda Farnsworth.
Ms. Brown was preceded in death, along with her parents, by a son, Larry Keith.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ona Mae (Davis) Lax, age 89, Arapaho resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church at Clinton with Rev. Brian Gilbert and Rev. Loyd Hall officiating.
Mrs. Lax died late Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. She was born on Feb. 17, 1912 in a home near Geronimo, the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth (Thomason) Davis.
After she attended elementary school in Perryton, Texas, the family moved to Independence, settling across the road from the Lax family farm. She graduated from Independence High School in 1931.
She was married to Gilbert Lax on Jan. 23, 1931, and they lived on the Lax family homestead until they bought a farm northwest of Arapaho in 1937. There they reared their family and lived until they retired and moved into Clinton.
Mrs. Lax was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by a brother, Clarence Davis; two sisters, Opal Warnick and Beulah Albertson; and a daughter, Wilma McGraw.
Burial will conclude in the Arapaho Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton.
Survivors include her husband, Gilbert, of Clinton; three daughters, Joan Upchurch and her husband, Dale, of Clinton, Leona Poindexter and her husband, Ray, of Arapaho, Elma Nason of Electra, Texas; two sons, Tom Lax and his wife, Norma, and Leon Lax and his wife, Billie, all of Clinton; a sister, Pearl Stevens of Citrus Heights, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends for visitation Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Graveside services for James V. Largin, 75, long-time Clinton resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Clinton Cemetery with Pastor Dave Gerbrandt officiating.
Largin died early Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at the Clinton Veterans Center. He was born on June 9, 1926 at Frederick.
Having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he was honorably discharged as seaman first class at Memphis, Tenn. in June of 1945.
Twice during his Navy career he was on board ships that were attacked by the enemy and survived. He was a member of the American Legion where he enjoyed getting together with friends.
One of his favorite pastimes was walking, and he could often be seen walking downtown Clinton streets.
Burial will conclude under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include a son, Virgil Largin of Elk City; a sister, Marie Crawford of Jonesboro, Ga.; and all of his American Legion friends.

Funeral services for Don Chiddix, age 68, Mountain View resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church at Mountain View with Rev. Jack Brown officiating.
Chiddix died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at the Carnegie Tri-County Hospital after a sudden illness. He was born on April 8, 1933 at Lawton, the son of Thomas B. and Ova Leona (Fairley) Chiddix.
He attended school in Lawton and served as an MP in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
After managing a Safeway store he purchased Don’s Supermarket in Mountain View and operated it until he retired in 1994. He began farming and ranching.
Chiddix was a member of the First Baptist School and was a Sunday school superintendent. He also was a member of Rotary and the Chamber of Commerce in Mountain View and of the Kiwanis and Toastmasters in Oklahoma City.
He was married to Bobbie Joan Dexter on Nov. 9, 1949 in Lawton.
Burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery under the direction of the Hackney Funeral Home in Mountain View.
Survivors include his wife, Joan, of Mountain View; a son, Earl Chiddix and his wife, Bev, of Yarbrough; two daughters, Leona Funk and her husband, Dwayne, of Clinton, Patricia Lightfoot and her husband, Bo, of Weatherford; and 10 grandchildren.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were a brother, David Chiddix; and a grandchild.

Funeral services for Kenneth Rice, age 68, Gotebo resident, were held this morning at the Sharon Baptist Church in the Lake Valley-Gotebo area with burial at the Odessa Cemetery in Gotebo.
Rice died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, in Cordell. He was born on Sept. 1, 1933 in Rocky. He was a bus driver and farmer-rancher for many years.

Robert Raulston M.D. Dr. Raulston's death reported - @ 4:03 pm PST
Robert Owen Raulston, M.D., 57, passed away Oct. 4, 2001, after a valiant fight against widespread lung cancer diagnosed over a year ago. His positive outlook and cheerful disposition remained with him until the very end, characteristics which his family, many, many friends and patients will fondly remember for years to come. He was a vigorous participant in his church, walked with God in all things, and was truly a recipient of Amazing Grace. Dr. Raulston was born on Oct. 13, 1943, and raised in Trenton, Ga. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, then earned his medical degree in 1968 from the Medical College of Georgia. He interned at Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington, D.C., followed with a tour of active duty in Turkey until 1970. After completing a year of general surgery at Washington D.C. Hospital Center, Dr. Raulston went to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 1972 to begin his residency training in urology in Oklahoma City in 1975. He married Judith Stevens August 5, 1978.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Evander L. Raulston and Gertrude M. Raulston, and his brother, John Hunter (Jack) Raulston. Dr. Raulston is survived by his wife, Judy, his three children, Elizabeth, Annie, and J.E.B., his brothers William R. Raulston and wife Pat of Hattisburg, Ms., Gilbert L. Raulston and wife Bobbie of Signal Mt., Tn., and numerous nieces and nephews of whom he was very fond. A memorial service was held at the United Methodist Church of the Servant on Oct. 8, 2001. Funeral services for Robert K. “Bob” Cline, age 91, Putnam resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Putnam Christian Church with Steve Havener, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Seiling, officiating.
Cline died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. He was born on Jan. 31, 1910 in Clinton, the son of Jacob Sherman and Missouri Gertrude (Lacy) Cline.
Attending school in Thomas and Custer City, he graduated from Custer City High School.
On Aug. 2, 1932 he was married to Gladys Opal Hughes at Taloga. During their early years of marriage they lived in Missouri, Idaho and California.
In 1946 they moved to Dewey County where they lived until failing health generated a move to South Dakota in 1991.
Cline loved to farm and also worked as a carpenter and in construction. He used these skills to build a home in Putnam.
Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Putnam under the direction of the Redinger Funeral Home of Seiling.
Survivors include three sons, Charles Cline and his wife, Dorothy, of Loda, Ill., Del Cline and his wife, Eileen, of Sioux City, S.D., Doyle Cline and his wife, Connie, of Yucaipa, Calif.; three sisters, Lorrayne Ray and her husband, Tiny, of Elk City, Pauline Stogdill of Casville, Mo., Eva Newkirk and her husband, Ivan, of Deer Park, Wash.; a brother, Elmer Cline and his wife, Opal, of Miami, Okla.; seven grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Smith died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at Oklahoma City. She was born on Nov. 19, 1928 at Dill City, the daughter of Hurl C. and Odessa Emma Bookout Dixon. Among the survivors is her husband, Edwin, of the home in Cordell.

Funeral services for Robert Leroy Dressler, age 74, Mustang resident and former Clinton resident, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Yukon.
Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Clinton Cemetery.
Dressler died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, in an Oklahoma City hospital following a short illness. He was born on March 15, 1927 in Sunbury, North Umberland County, Pa., the son of Wilson and Minerva Bey Dressler.
Growing up in Sunbury, he joined the U.S. Navy as a teenager and was a member of the elite “Black Faces” group which was a predecessor of the Navy S.E.A.L.S. Dressler served in the South Pacific during World War II.
Dressler moved to Mustang in 1980 where he owned and operated Dressler Manufacturing before later working for Price-Edwards Company.
He was a member of the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Yukon and Masonic Lodge No. 339 in Clinton.
Arrangements are under the direction of McNeil’s Mustang Funeral Service.
Survivors include his wife, Oneita, of the home; four sisters, Hattie Kopp of Tremont, Pa., Annie Inch of Mt Pleasant Mills, Pa., Amy Lucas of Sunbury, Pa., Helen Hardy and her husband, Albert, of Rockville, Md.; and a sister-in-law, Maud Dressler.

Burial will conclude at 4:30 p.m. in the New Bethel Cemetery in Byng near Ada with Rev. Joe Dixon officiating.
Jones died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at his home in Clinton. He was born on Oct. 31, 1936 in Custer City, the son of Ivy T. and Pauline (Hanks) Jones.
A 1954 alumnus of Custer City High School, he worked in elevator and home construction for a time and then at Cal-Gas as service manager and truck driver. He also farmed north of Arapaho until he retired.
He moved west of Clinton in 1990. Jones enjoyed fishing and was a fix-it man. He always enjoyed the challenge of making things.
Preceding him in death were his parents.

Funeral services for Willie Bearshield, age 73, Clinton resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the First Mennonite Church in Clinton.
A wake service is planned from 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesday at the Memorial Chapel of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton.
Bearshield died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Oklahoma City. He was born on Nov. 28, 1927 in Clinton, the son of Leonard and Ruth Bearshield.
A member of the Indian Mennonite Church, he had lived in Clinton all of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from the federal government after 26 years of service in January of 1997.
Bearshield was married to Bertha on July 23, 1949. He received Indian Health Service awards, including the Public Health Service Superior Service Award, the highest award in the PHS and second highest in the department.
He had served as facility manager at the Clinton Indian Hospital for 24 years. Recipients for HIS awards must be nominated by their supervisors for outstanding contributions and dedication to program goals, for providing indispensable support services and for consistent leadership and diligence in all operations.
Bearshield participated in fancy war dances and was active in powwows as a master of ceremonies or head man dancer for many years.
He also enjoyed the hand game. He was captain of the Oklahoma Indians state hand game champions in 2001.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Bertha; a daughter, Betty Bearshield; his parents; and two sisters, Viola Bearshield and Lula Nanpuya.
Interment will be in the Clinton Indian Cemetery.
Survivors include sons Pete Bearshield and his wife, Gayle, Leonard Bearshield and his wife, Karen, Alton Bearshield and his wife, Christina, and Luke Bearshield, all of Clinton; daughters, Mary Beaver of Oklahoma City, Alice Thorpe of El Reno; 11 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Lawrence J. “Fuzz” Smith, age 86, Clinton resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the First Christian Church at Clinton with Doyle Kinney and Rev. Clarence “Sandy” Shepherd officiating.
Smith died Sunday evening, Oct. 7, 2001, at his home. He was born on Dec. 28, 1914 west of Arapaho, the son of G.W. and Della Mae (Maynard) Smith.
Reared in the Arapaho area, he attended Womble Country School and later graduated from Arapaho High School.
He farmed for a number of years and did custom combining locally and across the country.
Smith left Oklahoma in 1949, moving to Moriarity, N.M. where he farmed sugar beets and pinto beans. He later became fire chief in Moriarity and operated the only ambulance service from Clines Corner to Albuquerque.
For a time, he owned and operated a gas station and a Tastee Freeze. On May 13, 1971 he was married to Irene Henry, and they moved to Clinton in 1978.
He managed his brother Bob’s farming and ranching operation until 1990. Smith was a member of the First Christian Church and the Wheatland Travel Club.
Burial will be in the Arapaho Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include his wife, Irene, of the home; a daughter, Betty Collins of Stanley, N.M.; three stepsons, Donald Robertson of Ruidoso, N.M., Reginald Robertson of Spearman, Texas, Carl “Skip” Green of Attica, Kans.; a sister, Dortha Begley, and a brother, Bob Smith, and his wife, Nancy, all of Clinton; and a grandchild.

Funeral services for Mrs. Naomi Faye Reinschmidt, age 60, Custer City resident, were held this morning at the Independence Methodist Church in Custer City with Rev. Garry Vincent officiating.
Mrs. Reinschmidt died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, in Oklahoma City. She was born on July 17, 1941 on a farm near Leedey, the daughter of Clyde O. and Ollie Mae (Courrier) Denney.
She was married to Ed “Bud” Reinschmidt in Custer City on Oct. 28, 1962.
She was a homemaker and a certified nurse’s aide and had worked in many local nursing homes and at the Clinton Veterans Center for eight years, as well as helping on the farm.
Mrs. Reinschmidt enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
Burial was at the Masonic Cemetery in Custer City under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton.

Funeral services for Everett Edgar Ellis, age 77, Clinton resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton with Les Nelson officiating. Burial will conclude at a later date.
Ellis died early Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, in Clinton. He was born on July 17, 1924 at Jackson, Miss., the son of Harry and Mary Ellen (Summer) Ellis.
He grew up in Springfield, Ohio and attended school there before joining the Works Progress Administration (WPA) as a young man and traveling extensively.
Ellis joined the Army and served during World War II before settling in Jet and working as a park ranger until his retirement in 1992.
In April of this year Ellis moved to Clinton. He loved to fish and spend time with his grandchildren.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents and wife, was a daughter, Clydine Replogle.
Survivors include three granddaughters, Judith Ann Fargo of Clinton, Theresa Stuck of Stillwater, Tonya Reed of Kansas; a grandson, James Reed of Pawnee; and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Elise R. Cornell, age 81, well-known Clinton accountant, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, in the First United Methodist Church with church minister Rev. Larry King officiating.
Elise died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at the Methodist Health Care Center. She was born on Aug. 19, 1920 at Weatherford, the daughter of K.B. “Bing” and Esther (Burgtorf) Cornell.
After spending her younger years in Weatherford, Lawton and Oklahoma City, her family settled in Clinton, and she graduated from Clinton High School in 1937.
She graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1942 and was a proud OU alumna.
In 1943 she and her father started the first accounting firm in Clinton, the Cornell Accounting Firm. After her father retired in 1970, Elise continued to operate the office until she semi-retired in the early 1980’s. She continued to keep books for a few clients until three weeks ago.
Elise was a faithful, active member of the First United Methodist Church and volunteered at the Methodist Health Care Center.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by a brother and sister-in-law, K.B. Jr. and Wanda Cornell.
Burial will conclude in the Mount Hope Cemetery near Custer City under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton.
Survivors include a niece, Kathleen Walker and her husband, Jim, of Oklahoma City; two nephews, Michael B. Cornell and Patrick T. Cornell and his wife, Kathy, all of Clinton; seven great nieces and nephews, Laura Butcher and her husband, Jim, Bryan Cornell and his wife, Tina, Steven Cornell and his wife, Julie, Amy Hunter and her husband, Aaron and Emily, J.J. and Thomas Walker; along with 10 great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Lesly Purl Christensen, age 84, Thomas resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Thomas with burial in the Mound Valley Cemetery at Thomas under the direction of the Lockstone Funeral Home in Thomas.
The World War II veteran and farmer died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at his home in Thomas. He was born in a log cabin northwest of Thomas on July 13, 1917, the son of Chris and Mattie (Powers) Christensen.
A member and deacon of the First Baptist Church, he was a director of the First National Bank in Thomas.

Funeral services for James Robert, “J.R.” McNatt, age 79, Foss resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Foss with Rev. Dean Derieg and Rev. Lin McNatt officiating.
McNatt died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, at his home. He was born on April 29, 1922 at Burns Flat, the son of James Olus and Ruth Robert Austin-McNatt.
A 1941 alumnus of Foss High School, he was married to Edna Laurel Latimer in September of 1942 and entered the U.S. Army in December of that year.
He went on to serve for four and a half years as a sergeant in the 10th Armored Division in the U.S. and South America.
McNatt had a life-long love of sports, the out-of-doors and taking family vacations. At the age of 65 he learned how to snow ski, and he had water skied for more than 40 years.
He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Foss and of the Elk’s Lodge No. 365 in Elk City. He also was a lifelong farmer and rancher in Washita and Custer Counties.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents, was a sister, Peggy June McFarlin of New Braunfels, Texas.
Burial will be in the Page Cemetery at Foss under the direction of the Peoples’ Cooperative Funeral Home in Lone Wolf.
Survivors include three children, Sherry Hall and her husband, Larry, of Foss, Marylin Tierce and her husband, David, of Oklahoma City, Jack McNatt of Foss; grandchildren, Kevin, Amber and daughter, Keisha, Hall of Canute, Mechelle and Brad Hohnke of Foss, Rhonda McNatt and son, Matthew and Christopher of Burns Flat.

Adams died Monday, Oct. 2, 2001, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital and was born on April 18, 1945, the son of Ida Adams.
He had been a resident of the Sunnyside Center in Enid for several years before moving to Clinton this summer.

Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Elaine Walker, age 73, Elk City resident, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, in Elk City with Gene Spillman officiating.
Mrs. Walker died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at her home in Elk City. She was born on May 12, 1928 in Penalosa, Kans., the daughter of John Harold Shankle and Mary Euretta Wallace.
She attended schools at Lakin, Kans. There she met her future husband, Harold Gilbert “Pete” Walker whom she married on Dec. 31, 1946 in Dodge City, Kans.
They followed the oil fields, living in Kansas, Oklahoma, Montana and Canada until 1961 when they returned to Elk City to live in a home they had purchased in 1950.
She worked for C.R. Anthony Co. for 12 years and Local Federal for eight years before retiring to pursue the hobbies of sewing, writing, reading and traveling.
Mrs. Walker served on several committees and was a deaconess and first woman elder of the First Christian Church in Elk City.
She was a District 8 officer in the church and was instrumental in beginning the Logos youth program in 1988, which is now known as the Kids for Christ program.
She also helped start Mothers’ Day Out and taught Sunday school for 25 years as well as several Bible studies. She was recently honored with a “Margaret Walker Day” for her years of faithful church service.
Mrs. Walker served twice as president of the Business and Professional Women’s organization and once as secretary.
She was a part of organization and worked diligently for many years in the HELP program. Her community service included volunteering at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center, HELP Inc. and serving Meals on Wheels.
Preceding her in death were her father, John Shankle; a brother, Raymond Shankle; and a grandson, Jonathan Walker.
Burial will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery at Elk City under the direction of the Whinery-Savage Funeral Service in Elk City.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Pete Walker of the home; a daughter, Malea Newman and her husband, Jerry, of Elk City; two sons, Steve Walker and his wife, Jamie, of Austin, Texas, Bill Walker and his wife, Tommie, of Clinton; her mother, Mary Shankle, and a brother, Russell Shankle, both of Lankin, Kans.; seven grandchildren, Rachelle Roberts of Norman, Brandon Walker of Elk City, Matthew Walker of Edmond, Mark Vaughn of Elk City, Julie Vaughn of Woodward, Peyton Walker of Clinton; and four great grandchildren, Reid, Brock, Korbin and Rylee.

Funeral services for former Clinton resident Ted Lee Cain, age 69, Altus resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Assembly of God in Altus with Dr. Richard Ventonis officiating and Rev. Bret Nation assisting.
Cain died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton. He was born on Jan. 12, 1932 in Carter, the son of Fred Osgood and Leona (Bell) Cain.
A 1950 graduate of Carter High School, he was married to Berta Mullennix on Aug. 8, 1952 in Sayre.
Cain had worked in the newspaper business for 45 years including stints at the Sayre Headlight Journal, Clinton Daily News and Altus Times where he retired as production manager in 1995.
He was employed at the Southwest Technology Center at the time of his death.
Cain was a member of the First Assembly of God in Altus. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball, football, auto racing and working in the church.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was a sister, Joy Cain.
Burial will be in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home in Altus. The family will receive friends and visitors this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Richardson died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at Harrah. She was born on Dec. 10, 1908.
She was married to Homer Richardson on Sept. 12, 1927. He preceded her in death along with daughters, Joetta Carter and Jessia Richardson; a son, Homer Richardson Jr.; and a grandson, Greg Williamson.
Interment will be in the Arapaho Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home of Clinton.
Survivors include a daughter, Pauline Corbin of Kernersville, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

Roy Gorshing funeral slated - @ 2:22 pm PST
Funeral services for Roy J. Gorshing, age 86, Bessie resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Peace Lutheran Church at Bessie with church pastor Rev. David Darling officiating.
Gorshing died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at the Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born on July 18, 1915 at Bessie, the son of Jacob H. and Minnie Gorshing.
A graduate of Bessie High School, he was married to Esther Dick on Feb. 21, 1938 at Bessie, and they made their home in Oklahoma City.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1945 to 1947.
Upon discharge from the service the Gorshings moved back to Bessie where Gorshing was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church and a 56-year member of the American Legion.
He was an automotive machinist with Mahanay Brothers in Clinton for 23 years and then worked for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Voth.
Interment will be in the Peace Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton.

Mrs. Littke died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at the Prairie Wood Manor in Clinton. She was born on June 1, 1907 at Bessie, the daughter of Gust and Matilda Meget.
She was married to John Littke on April 6, 1932 in Washita County.
Mrs. Littke was a homemaker and had lived in Clinton since 1960. She was a member of the Custer Avenue Baptist Church and enjoyed going to the Senior Citizens Building. She also enjoyed quilting and playing bingo.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, John, who died in 1995, were her parents; 11 brothers; a sister; and a stepson, Otto Littke.
Interment will be in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton.

An all-night wake service will be held Friday beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Indian Pentecostal Mission at 18th and Hayes in Clinton.
Horn died early Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at Elk City following the car crash. He had been on his way to work.
Born on Jan. 10, 1983 in Lawton, the son of Marcus Sr. and Donna (Howell) Horn, he grew up in Hydro and graduated from high school there in 2001.
After graduation, Horn went to work in the oilfield and moved to Elk City with his wife, Sarah, who is expecting their first child.
He was an accomplished, certified welder and held a forklift license. He enjoyed playing baseball, watching wrestling and fishing.
Preceding him in death were his paternal grandfather, Leroy Horn; maternal great grandparents, Homer and Lucy Howell; paternal great grandparents, Alfred and Susie Whitecrow, Cootsie Hayes Little Man, Jesse Horn and “Papa Dave” Bearpaw.

Funeral services for Mrs. Belinda Jo Morris, age 49, Arapaho resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Arapaho Assembly of God Church with Rev. Gayle Reeves officiating.
Mrs. Morris died late Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital following a long bout with cancer. She was born on Nov. 24, 1951 at Elk City, the daughter of Charles and Maxine (Hutson) Weems.
She grew up in Hammon and moved to Clinton at the age of four, graduating from Clinton High School in 1970.
In 1971 she was married to Jerry Morris, and they moved to Kileen, Texas for a short time.
Moving back to Arapaho, she had worked at TG&Y, Arapaho Quick Shop, Nelson’s Grocery and the Army Surplus Store.
She had been self-employed doing domestic work until failing health forced her to retire two years ago.
Mrs. Morris was preceded in death by her parents.
Arrangements are with the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

Funeral services for Kenneth George Lockwood, age 83, Cordell resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Cordell with interment in the Lawnview Cemetery at Cordell under the direction of the McClure Funeral Home of Cordell.
Lockwood died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born on April 22, 1918 in Hastings, Minn., the son of Steve A. and Hazel (Pittinger) Lockwood.
He served as a flight engineer during World War II receiving several medals including the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross as well as five combat stars.
He worked for Lockheed Aircraft for some 30 years prior to moving to Cordell in 1971 where he worked as the cemetery superintendent.

Funeral services for Doyle Taylor, age 75, Elk City resident and former Clinton resident/businessman, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Elk City with Dr. Russell Duck officiating.
Taylor died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002. He was born on July 7, 1926 in the Dewey County community of Aledo, the son of Leslie Hubert and Myrtle (Addington) Taylor.
After graduating from Leedey High School in 1944, he was married to Lorena Stoddard on June 9, 1946, and they established their home in Leedey for a year before moving in June of 1947 to Clinton.
Taylor served his country during the Korean conflict from 1952 until his discharge in 1954.
While in Clinton he owned and operated a Texaco gas station and, after the sale of the station, worked for the Strange-Jones Wholesale in Clinton.
In 1962, the Taylors moved to Elk City where Doyle began his career with the Elk City True Value Lumber Co. where he retired in 1988.
He then became a salesman for the Vernon Company in 1990 until 1999.
Taylor was an active member of the Jaycees where he became a JCI Senator; a charter member of the Elk City Elks Lodge; and a Kiwanis Club member.
After being baptized on Oct. 17, 1965, Taylor be-came an active member of the First Baptist Church of Elk City, being involved with the Live Embers, and he drove the church bus whenever needed.
Preceding him in death were his father; and an infant son, Lonnie Ray.
Interment will follow in the Center Point Cemetery under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home in Elk City.
Survivors include his wife, Lorena Taylor of the Elk City home; a son, L.B. Harvey died Monday afternoon, Jan. 29, 2002, at the Clinton Veterans Center. He was born on May 15, 1926, in Collinsworth County, Texas at his grandmother’s home, the son of Loy and Hester (Davis) Harvey.
Reared in Collinsworth, he attended school at Abra and San Norway. He served in the Marines and in March of 1954 he was married to Miss Nadine Harvey in Wellington, Texas.
He worked as a rancher and cowboy and enjoyed fishing in his spare time. He also raised rabbits and enjoyed gardening.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Gerald Harvey.
Burial will be in the Springcreek Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

Sage died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born on Jan. 5, 1949 in Clinton, the son of Nelson Jr. and Lyeia (Youngbear) Sage.
He was reared and attended school in Geary, serving in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1973.
A direct descendant of the Arapaho Chief Powderface and Chief Littleraven, Sage loved to cook Indian food for Indian dances and Indian Falls Creek at the Glorietta Baptist Church.
He enjoyed sports and was a pitcher for Indian softball games, having pitched for a team which went to the national finals four years in a row.
Sage was employed by Clinton Indian Health Services. He was a member of the Swapping Back Baptist Church, Southwest Vietnam Veterans, Arapaho Sundance Lodge at Ethele, Wyo., vice-chairman of the Cheyenne-Arapaho Labor Day Celebration and an Arapaho chief this past year.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents, were two sisters, DeAnn Sage, Maudeen Sage; and a brother, Wesley Sage, Sr.
Burial will follow in the Concho Indian Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Barton Sage of the home; a daughter, Alisa Sage of Oklahoma City; three sons, Mike Jr., Joseph Paul Sage, Corey Sage, all of Oklahoma City; two stepsons, Nicholas Joseph Barton, Christian Scherdin of Weatherford; four sisters, Sandra Lamebull of Oklahoma City; Millicent Doyebi of El Reno, Carroll Doyebi of Anadarko, Elsie Sage of El Reno; three brothers, Alvin Sage Sr. of El Reno, David Sage of Calumet, Gary Don Sage of Concho; a grandson; a stepgranddaughter, Erica Scherdin of Weatherford.

Allen Schreiner rites Thursday - @ 2:21 pm PST
Funeral services for Larry Allen Schreiner, age 48 and a 1971 Clinton High School graduate, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the First United Methodist Church in Clinton with Rev. Larry King officiating.
Schreiner died unexpectedly early Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at the Clinton home of his mother where he had been recuperating from back surgery. He was born on March 25, 1953 in Hutchinson, Kan., the son of Lawrence D. “Larry” and Ginger (Gravlee) Schreiner.
Allen, as he was known to his family and friends, was reared in Clinton. He attended Clinton schools where he was active in Speech Club and FFA, raising Charolais cattle.
After graduation, he went on to further his education at Oklahoma State University. Schreiner also had earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
He worked for MapCo Oil Field Co. and traveled extensively, settling in Oklahoma City in 1987.
He also worked for Total and for the past six years was a district manager for Sav-A-Stop.
Schreiner was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He loved to golf, fish, hunt and write poetry.
Preceding him in death were his father, Larry Schreiner; his paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Jo Schreiner; and his maternal grandfather, J.E. Gravlee.
Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include his mother, Ginger Schreiner, of Clinton; a sister, Angie Ivey, and her husband, Joe, of Wilder, Ky.; his maternal grandmother, Sarah Gravlee of Clinton; three nieces, Nicole, Jena and Julia, all of Wilder, Ky.; an aunt and uncle, Gerald and Carlene Gravlee of Chattanooga; and cousins, Connie Jensen of Norman and Jerry Gravlee of Oklahoma City.

'Badger' Black services held - @ 2:20 pm PST
Funeral services for Alijah Wilson “Badger” Black, age 63, Cordell resident, were held this afternoon at the First Church of the Nazarene in Carnegie with Jerry Tate officiating.
Black died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at his home in Cordell. He was born on Nov. 14, 1938 in Dill City, the son of Woodrow W. and Mary Murphy Black.
At the time of his death he was a district lineman for the Carnegie-Hobart area of AEP/Public Service Co. of Oklahoma.
He was a member of the Baptist Church, IBEW Union Local No. 1002, the Masons and Shriners.
Black worked as a lineman most of his life in electrical power line construction for contractors John T. Jones, L.E. Meyers, Perry Electric and Midland & Comstock across Louisiana, Texas, Kansas, Massachusetts, California, Arkansas and Kentucky.
He began working for PSO in 1988 and remained in that position until his illness.
In 1997 he was married to Jeannie Trent of Cordell, and they made their home there.
Burial was in the Apache Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Jeannie Black, of Cordell; son, James Lynn Black of Cordell; three daughters, Carol Ann Black of Apache, Patricia Kaye Janis of Altus, Candace Mae Black of Carnegie; a stepdaughter, Laura Trent of Cordell; a stepson, Kenneth Trent of Cordell; a daughter-in-law, Verna Black of Cyril; a sister, Janet Bartel and her husband, Oliver (Slug), of Cordell; a brother, Jerry Black and his wife, Marketa, of Dill City; nine grandchildren, Dallas and Boston Codonon, Britiney and Kayse Janis, Randy and Todd Sthultz, Taylor and Sissy Black and Kira Black.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife, Barbara Black; a son, Randy Black; a grandson, Tanner Black; and a brother, Billy Black.

Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Belle (Muno) Simpson, age 81, Clinton resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the First Baptist Church Chapel with Rev. Bryan Gilbert officiating.
Mrs. Simpson died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at the Methodist Health Center in Clinton. She was born on Jan. 13, 1921 in Clinton, the daughter of John and Ollie (Cope) Muno.
She grew up in Lenora near Taloga and attended school there before moving to Oregon during World War II where she worked in a factory to support the war effort.
After moving back to Oklahoma in 1944, she went to work at the TB Sanitarium where she met William Augustus “Mike” Simpson, and they were married the same year.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1951.
She moved from Clinton to Oklahoma City several times before finally settling back in Clinton in 1969.
Mrs. Simpson worked at both the Ralph’s Truck Stop, Big Sky and Cherokee Restaurants where she was known for her coconut cream pies.
She had also done child care before retiring in 1990. In her spare time Mrs. Simpson enjoyed cooking, reading and crocheting.
Preceding her in death were her husbands; her parents; two sons, Ricky Hutchins and Rayford “Chuckie” Simpson; five brothers, Leslie, Otis, Garvin, Randolph and Rayford Muno; and five sisters, Mable Upchurch, Daisy Snider, Iona Waid, Ruby Cryer and Ethel Jones.
Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Watson and her husband, Bill, of Clinton, Emily Watkins of Arapaho; a son, Robert “Bob” Hutchins and his companion, Luther Laird, of Arapaho; six grandchildren, Jarrod Hutchins, Leland Watkins, Anita Smith, Tony Littleton, Mary Clayton, Destiny Parson; five great grandchildren, Jason Moore, Lance Smith, Lori Smith, Cassidy and Cassandra Watkins; and two great-great grandchildren, Gavin and Tatum Moore.

Memorial services for Mrs. Marcha Kelley Gearhart, age 83, reportedly Clinton’s first councilwoman, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel at 3612 E. 91st Street in Tulsa.
Mrs. Gearhart died Sunday afternoon, Jan. 27, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She was born on Feb. 11, 1918.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Gearhart and his wife, Dianne, of Clear Lake City, Texas, Dr. John K. Gearhart and his wife, Diane, of Tulsa; and two grandchildren, Julie Gearhart Cromar and J. Bradley Gearhart.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Earl (Jack) H. and Myrtle Kelley; a brother, Earl; two sisters, Emily and Edith; and her husband, Herb T. Gearhart, who died Dec. 8, 1998.

Graveside services for Mrs. Willow Marie Waldrup, age 78, Coweta resident, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Vernon Cemetery with Rev. Gary Rogers officiating.
Mrs. Waldrup died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at her home. She was born on April 14, 1923 in Oolagah, the daughter of Austin and Maggie (Cannon) Hart.
She received her education in Talala. In September of 1956 she was married to Claude Waldrup.
Mrs. Waldrup was a caregiver for 15 years. She was a member of the First Assembly of God and enjoyed gardening, flowers, buying and selling, cooking and flea markets.
Survivors include two sons,. James Claude Waldrup, Harley Waldrup, both of Coweta; a daughter, LaDonna Neely of Clinton; three brothers, Harold Richmond, Junior Ray Richmond, both of Hulbert, Leon Richmond of Wagoner; seven sisters, Fontreba Teague of Hulbert, Pauline Chaudions of Moody, Don Virginia Henson of Spavinaw, Billie Cooper of Tahlequah, Kaye Hart, Faye Hart, Carolyn Hart, all of California; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Tennie Scott, age 71, Clinton resident, formerly of Butler, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Butler Schools Auditorium with Rev. Roy Wilburn officiating.
Mrs. Scott was born on Nov. 23, 1930 at Hollis, the daughter of Otho and Lorean Morris.
She graduated from Hollis High School and was married to Norman Reubin Scott on June 1, 1950 at the First Methodist Church in Hollis.
They moved to Butler in 1963, and Mrs. Scott provided day care for children of some of the teachers.
Then, in 1968, she went to work at the school as a teacher’s aide, later becoming the school secretary.
She retired in 1988 and moved to Clinton in 1998. Mrs. Scott enjoyed bowling and going to eat with friends. She also volunteered at the Clinton hospital.
Interment will follow at the Butler Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Don Scott and his wife, Rhonda, of Clinton; a brother, Ladd G. Morris and his wife, June, of Colville, Wash.; sisters-in-law, Jolene Morris of San Marcos, Texas, Faye Morris of Amarillo, Texas; and grandchildren, Kip, Kory and Kyla Scott.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents and husband, were a brothers, Nate Morris, Bobby Jess Morris and Max Morris; and a nephew and a niece.

Funeral services for Victor R. Whitehawk Rodriguez (Verjan), age 41, of Lexington Park, Md., will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Koinonia Mennonite Church in Clinton.
Rodriguez died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002. He was born at Hammon, the son of Jesus Verjan and Lorena Whitehawk.
Maternal grandparents were the late Chief Amos Whitehawk of Hammon and Anna Otterby Whitehawk of Deer Creek-Weatherford.
Interment will be at the Clinton Indian Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton.

Graveside services for Guy Warren Shira, age 76, Thomas resident, were held this afternoon in the Mound Valley Cemetery at Thomas with Rev. Cecil Kimberlin officiating.
Shira died Saturday evening, Jan. 19, 2002, at the Grace Living Center in Clinton following a battle with cancer. He was born on March 11, 1925 in Carthage, Mo.
Reared in the Joplin, Mo. area, at a young age he ran away from home and worked with the circus before meeting his wife, Eliza F. Van Hyning. They were married on June 16, 1949 in Hobart.
They made their homes in Texas, Illinois and Western Oklahoma, settling in the Thomas area in 1978.
He had worked as a prison guard, and had several other contract labor-type jobs.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents, were his wife; a son, Richard Shira in 1973; four brothers, Osa, Shorty, Willard, Lester; a sister, Beulah Woolridge; and a grandchild.
Burial will be under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Shrum of Rockport, Ill., Emma Almeda of Aurora, Ill.; two sons, Ernie Shira and his wife, Phyllis, of Farnsworth, Texas, Kline Beverlin of Thomas; two sisters, Sarah Fritch of Scammon, Kan., Bertha Bennett of Garden City, Kan.; a brother, Everett Shira of Carl Junction, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Betty Jean (Halyard) Woodall, age 68, Clinton resident, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002 at Kindred Hospital in Oklahoma City.
She was born on Aug. 15, 1934 in Fort Worth, Texas and spent her early years in a Catholic orphanage.
In 1956 she was married to Elbert H. Woodall, and they made their home in Fort Worth before moving in 1973 to Oklahoma City.
Mrs. Woodall was employed by Altec Manufacturing until she retired and moved to Clinton in 1998.
Preceding her in death were her husband in 1985; two children, Darrell and Darla; and a brother, James Plunkett.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton. No services are planned at the present time.
Survivors include two daughters, Jacqueline Sue Stevens and Jennie Pearl Edmondson, both of Fort Worth, Texas; a son, Richard Lee Green of Topeka, Kan.; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Prominent Clinton attorney James R. “Jim Bob” Wright, Jr.succumbed while quail hunting with friends near Cheyenne on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002. Memorial services have been scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Clinton with Rev. Larry King officiating.
Wright was born on Nov. 30, 1946 in Stillwater, the son of James Robert “Bob” Wright and Audie Ruth (Brown) Wright.
He began school at Cheyenne and moved to Clinton when he was in the fifth grade, graduating from Clinton High School in 1965.
He played baseball at Yale University where he graduated in 1969 and went on to work as a sportswriter for the Norman Transcript while attending the University of Oklahoma Law School.
Upon receiving his Juris Doctorate, Wright began practicing law in Cheyenne prior to opening a practice in Clinton in 1976. He also served a one-year stint in 1975 as the assistant district attorney in Custer County.
He continued going to his office in Cheyenne two days a week his entire career.
Wright was an active member of the Custer County Bar Association and state and national legal organizations.
He was a past chairman of the Oklahoma Judicial Nominating Committee and served on the board of directors of the Farmers Union Cooperative Royalty Company as well as in the U.S. Army Reserves.
The attorney was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clinton where he served as a lay leader, choir member and past president of the Board of Trustees.
Wright played football, basketball and baseball for the Clinton Red Tornadoes as well as American Legion baseball. Attending high school sports events in Clinton were a special passion of his.
He enjoyed coaching peewee baseball teams and attending sports events at OU and Oklahoma State University.
Wright also greatly enjoyed the outdoors, including trout fly fishing trips to northern New Mexico and quail hunting trips in western Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law, Mary Ford.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou (Ford) Wright; and two daughters, Lauren and Rachel of Clinton.

Graveside services for Leroy Doyle Fox, age 74, Enid resident, were held Monday afternoon in the Butler Cemetery.
Fox died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, in the St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center at Enid. He was born on Feb. 17, 1927 at Leedey, the son of Walter and Zula Cornett Fox.
He attended school at Butler and was employed for many years by Sewell Brothers Construction Co. in Cordell.
Fox loved to hunt and fish. He lived in Cordell for 25 years before moving to Enid because of failing health to be near his son, Dewayne.
Survivors include his son, Dewayne Fox, and his wife, Anna, of Enid; a daughter, Roshelle Chapman and her husband, Dillon, of Apache, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Jamie, Erin Mae, Eric; and a sister-in-law, Margie Fox of Clinton.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers J.R., Foy, Holly, Buel, Lester; and a sister, Mamie.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Jane Day, age 89, long-time Camargo resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Camargo Christian Church.
Mrs. Day, who has several relatives in the Arapaho-Clinton area, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Elk City.
Interment will follow in the Camargo Cemetery with arrangements by the Shaw Funeral Home of Vici.

Gladys Wiebe death reported - @ 1:43 pm PST
The death of Gladys Ruth Wiebe, age 74, Springfield, Ill., on Friday, Dec. 14, 2001 at the Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, has been learned locally.
Mrs. Wiebe was the wife of Ralph Jacob Wiebe who was reared in Clinton and is among the survivors. Also among the survivors are two in-laws who live in the area, brother-in-law Al Wiebe of Clinton; and sister-in-law Leona Teeter of Foss.
Born on Dec. 3, 1927 in Marshall, Ill., Mrs. Wiebe was the daughter of Lloyd and Ruth N. Eitel Hanley.
She and Ralph Jacob were married in 1965 in Springfield.
Mrs. Wiebe was the owner and operator of First Lady Beauty Salon for 30 years. She also worked at Myers Brothers Beauty Salon for 12 years, retiring in 1995.
She was a member of the Springfield Cosmetologists Association and West Side Christian Church as well as being a former member of the Jockey Club.
Mrs. Wiebe was cremated and her remains placed in the Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to those listed above, include two stepdaughters, Suzanne Wiebe-Byus and Judy Beckman and her husband, Bill, both of Jacksonville, Ill.; five step grandchildren; 10 step great grandchildren; a brother, John “Jack” Hanley of Zephyrhills, Fla.; and two nieces.

Hallie Parker rites Friday - @ 2:03 pm PST
Funeral services for Mrs. Hallie Ellen Parker, age 96, Weatherford resident and former longtime Clinton resident and businesswoman, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church at Weatherford with Rev. Earl Stephenson officiating.
Mrs. Parker died at her home in Weatherford on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002. She was the fifth child born to William Gage and Nancy (Jackson) Lee in Hollis.
She grew up in the community of Hollis where her father farmed and operated a grocery store.
She attended the First Baptist Church in Dryden as well as the Dollar Hill School.
In 1922 her father sold the grocery store and moved the family to Norman. At the time, she was a senior in high school where she met and three years later married Claud Alvin Parker on Oct. 6, 1925. Their marriage was in Oklahoma City.
Following her graduation from Norman High School she attended the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1929 with a degree in home economics.
She and her husband both obtained their teaching certificates and started teaching in the Bowlegs area.
Mrs. Parker taught 49 students in the first through third grades while her husband taught the fourth through sixth grades and served as building principal.
In 1930 they moved to Clinton and bought an outdoor advertising business which they operated from 1930 to 1940. Hallie was the secretary of the operation.
After moving to Clinton she moved her membership to the First Baptist Church in Clinton where she was director of the third grade department for many years.
She was a member of the Senior Choir, WMU and counted money for the church for many years.
In 1935 she gave birth to the couple’s only child, Wayne Lee Parker.
The couple purchased an insurance and real estate company which they ran from 1940 to 1949. She worked in the office.
In 1949 they bought back the outdoor advertising business which they operated until they retired in 1963.
They continued to live in Clinton until they moved to Weatherford in 1999 to be closer to family. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and was active in the Garden Club.
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Weatherford under the direction of the Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Shirley Parker of Weatherford; two grandchildren, Phillip Parker and his wife, Jacqueline, and Nancy Dry and her husband, Jerry, all of Weatherford; and four great grandchildren, Aaron and Amy Parker and Michelle and Alexandria Dry.
Preceding her in death, along with her parents and husband, was her son, Wayne; a sister; and three brothers.

Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Ruth (Koch) Green, age 74, Oklahoma City resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Rosewood Chapel of the Branstetter-Merritt Funeral Home at 7720 S. Pennsylvania in Oklahoma City.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Bethel Cemetery at Hydro.
Mrs. Green died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Oklahoma City. She was born on Feb. 15, 1927 in Hydro, the daughter of Johnson and Lida Stanfill.
She was a retired employee of Southwestern Bell with 38 years of service.
Mrs. Green was a member of the Southern Hills United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City, Communication Workers of America and the Norman Wheels RV group.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Dale Green, of the home; a son, Lindel Koch of Clinton; two stepsons; two stepdaughters; brothers, G.C. Stanfill and his wife, Sandra, Hiram Stanfill and his wife, Myndy; a sister, Nina Sanders and her husband, Robert; a brother-in-law, Pete Green; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bose Jr. of Bessie and Bryan Bose of Clinton recently returned from Redlands, Calif. where they attended the funeral of Eric Jacobson of Redlands.
Eric was the son of Lloyd and Janice (Brady) Jacobson, also of Redlands.
He was killed Dec. 30 in a boating accident at Oceanside, Calif. while he and a friend were fishing.
Jacobson was a native of Clinton, having attended schools here. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1953.

The infant died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Oklahoma City where he had been since his birth. He was born on Dec. 24, 2001 in Oklahoma City, weighing 1 lb., 11 oz.

Funeral services for Mrs. Alma Engel Franz Epp, age 81, Corn resident, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Calvary Baptist Church in Corn with Bruce Miller and Bob Burkle officiating.
Mrs. Epp died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. She was born on June 22, 1920 in Main Center, Canada.
Reared in Corn, she attended school there and graduated in 1939.
She was married to Albert Franz on Sept. 26, 1945 before marrying Albert Epp on Jan. 29, 1982 in Corn.
A housewife, she was a charter member of the Calvary Baptist Church and an American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She also was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union.
Burial will follow in the Corn Mennonite Brethren Cemetery under the direction of the Lockstone Funeral Home in Weatherford.
Survivors include three daughters, Cheryl Wilson and her husband, Travis, of Liberal, Kan., Bonnie Trissell and her husband, Darrell, of Clinton, Marcia Sampson and her husband, Ralph, of Loyal; six grandchildren; and a great grandchildren.

Chapel services for Mrs. Margaret Lena Musick, age 96, Clinton resident, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton with Rev. Bryan Gilbert officiating.
Burial will be at a later date in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Overland, Kan.
Mrs. Musick died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002 at the Grace Living Center in Clinton. She was born on July 29, 1904 at McFall, Mo., the daughter of Sam and Maggie Belle (Doughty) Musick.
She attended through the ninth grade at Pallot Knob School, a one-room school in McFall, Mo.
On April 21, 1923 she was married to Theodore “Ted” Youngman before later marrying Christopher Columbus “Jack” Bush on Oct. 14, 1942.
She enjoyed organic gardening and had a beautiful rock garden in Missouri. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and tatting. She had moved to Clinton three years ago to be near her family.
Preceding her in death, along with her parents, were four brothers, Charley, Harvey, Freeman and Albert; five sisters, Rena, Rada, Inez, Mildred and Clema; a daughter, Marscella Rhoads; and a great grandchild, Mark Rhoads.

Robert Schmidt funeral Tuesday - @ 1:31 pm PST
Funeral services for Robert Schmidt, age 80, Bessie resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Herold Mennonite Church east of Bessie with Rev. Arlee Johnson officiating.
Schmidt died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. He was born on Feb. 25, 1921 in Laird, Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of Edward F. and Marie Schmidt.
In 1923 he moved to the family farm southeast of Bessie where he attended the Flynn Country School.
He then went into alternative service with the Civilian Public Service building roads and bridges.
Later, he went back to the farm and continued farming until his retirement two years ago.
Schmidt was a Sunday school superintendent and deacon of the Bible Mennonite Brethren Church in Cordell, helping to build the church.
He later was a member of the Herold Mennonite Church and served as a Sunday school teacher for years.
He was active on the Rural Water Board, District 2 and enjoyed baling hay as well as having coffee with his buddies.
Interment will follow at the Herold Mennonite Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include his daughter, Judy Goertz, and her husband, Jack, of Bremerton, Wash.; brothers, Eddie Schmidt and his wife, Eldeen, of Clinton, Louis Schmidt and his wife, Elvera, of rural Cordell; sisters, Helen Schmidt of Cordell, Ann Schmidt of Warrenton, Mo., Mary Lou Juett and her husband, Glenn, of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, South America, Katie Smith and her husband, George, of Denver, Colo.; sisters-in-law, Lela Schmidt of Newton, Kan., Jeannette Schmidt of Goshen, Ind., Janis Schmidt of Quaker Town, Pa., Doris Helms of Mesa, Ariz.

Memorial services for long-time Southwestern Oklahoma State University language arts professor Dr. Eugene E. Hugheswill be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Weatherford with Father Shelby Scott of Broken Arrow officiating.
Dr. Hughes was an SWOSU professor for 22 years, serving as chairman of the Language Arts Department for 11 years.
He graduated as valedictorian of his class at Stafford High School west of Clinton in 1951 and received a Bachelor of Arts from Southwestern in 1954.
He attended graduate school at the University of Oklahoma before entering the military where he served from 1957 to 1960 in the U.S. Army Counterintelligence Corps, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany.
He received a Master of Arts from the university in 1960 and went on to serve as an English instructor at East Central State College from 1962 to 1963 and at Southwestern in 1963 to 1964.
He entered doctoral study at the University of Missouri where he received a PhD in December, 1966. In January, 1967 he was appointed chairman of the Language Arts Department at SWOSU where he served until 1978.
At that time, he resigned as chairman and continued to teach in the department before retiring from the school in December, 1987 as professor emeritus.
He was an active member of the Modern Language Association, the College English Association and the Oklahoma Council of Teachers of English.
Dr. Hughes was born on July 12, 1933 at Butler, the son of Raymond and Lillie Mae Hughes.
He died on Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, in Broken Arrow.
Preceding him in death were his father and a stepdaughter, Vicki Parks.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte, of Weatherford; his mother, Lillie Mae, of Clinton; his daughter, Janet Baxter and her husband, Mike, of Tulsa; his son, Daniel (Bud) of Norman; his stepdaughter, Mary Lynn Lenz and her husband, Richard, of Mobile, Ala.; grandchildren, Danny, Jordan and Jeff Baxter and Kelly Pruitt and her husband, Chance, and great grandson, Blake Pruitt, all of Tulsa; a brother, Jim Hughes and his wife, Carmileta, of Arapaho; two sisters, Shirley Johnson and her husband, Jerry, and Virginia Lowell and her husband, Brice, all of Oklahoma City; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Chapel services for Mrs. Allie Zelma George, age 104, former Stafford resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton with Rev. Alvis Merrill and Rev. Frank Norred officiating.
Mrs. George died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at Vivian’s Nursing Home in Amarillo, Texas. Allie Zelma Snelson was born Nov. 22, 1897 near Cleburne, Texas, the daughter of Hugh and Laura (Ballenger) Snelson.
She was married to Chester George on Sept. 6, 1914 south of Canute. They had been married for 75 years when he died in 1990.
The couple had lived in California, Texas and Oklahoma while her husband worked for the railroad before moving to Stafford in 1958.
Mrs. George had lived there until 1993 when she moved to Amarillo to be close to her family.
A devout member of the Stafford Baptist Church, she loved to read and had read the Bible through 43 times. She also was an avid gardener and enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables from her garden.
Preceding her in death, along with her parents, were three sisters; a brother; four daughters, Connie George, Bessie Robertson, Laura Robertson, Mary Silver; and three grandchildren.
Burial will be in the Stafford Cemetery west of Clinton.
Survivors include two sons, Chester E. George and his wife, Sarah, of San Bernardino, Calif., Edwin L. George and his wife, Mary, of Amarillo, Texas; 10 grand-children; nine great grandchildren; and 54 great-great grandchildren.

The family has established a memorial scholarship fund in honor of Dr. Hughes with the Southwestern Foundation, 100 Campus Dr., Weatherford, OK 73096.

Funeral services for Kenneth George Lockwood, age 83, Cordell resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Cordell with interment in the Lawnview Cemetery at Cordell under the direction of the McClure Funeral Home of Cordell.
Lockwood died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born on April 22, 1918 in Hastings, Minn., the son of Steve A. and Hazel (Pittinger) Lockwood.
He served as a flight engineer during World War II receiving several medals including the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross as well as five combat stars.
He worked for Lockheed Aircraft for some 30 years prior to moving to Cordell in 1971 where he worked as the cemetery superintendent.

Funeral services for Doyle Taylor, age 75, Elk City resident and former Clinton resident/businessman, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Elk City with Dr. Russell Duck officiating.
Taylor died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002. He was born on July 7, 1926 in the Dewey County community of Aledo, the son of Leslie Hubert and Myrtle (Addington) Taylor.
After graduating from Leedey High School in 1944, he was married to Lorena Stoddard on June 9, 1946, and they established their home in Leedey for a year before moving in June of 1947 to Clinton.
Taylor served his country during the Korean conflict from 1952 until his discharge in 1954.
While in Clinton he owned and operated a Texaco gas station and, after the sale of the station, worked for the Strange-Jones Wholesale in Clinton.
In 1962, the Taylors moved to Elk City where Doyle began his career with the Elk City True Value Lumber Co. where he retired in 1988.
He then became a salesman for the Vernon Company in 1990 until 1999.
Taylor was an active member of the Jaycees where he became a JCI Senator; a charter member of the Elk City Elks Lodge; and a Kiwanis Club member.
After being baptized on Oct. 17, 1965, Taylor be-came an active member of the First Baptist Church of Elk City, being involved with the Live Embers, and he drove the church bus whenever needed.
Preceding him in death were his father; and an infant son, Lonnie Ray.
Interment will follow in the Center Point Cemetery under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home in Elk City.
Survivors include his wife, Lorena Taylor of the Elk City home; a son, L.B. Harvey died Monday afternoon, Jan. 29, 2002, at the Clinton Veterans Center. He was born on May 15, 1926, in Collinsworth County, Texas at his grandmother’s home, the son of Loy and Hester (Davis) Harvey.
Reared in Collinsworth, he attended school at Abra and San Norway. He served in the Marines and in March of 1954 he was married to Miss Nadine Harvey in Wellington, Texas.
He worked as a rancher and cowboy and enjoyed fishing in his spare time. He also raised rabbits and enjoyed gardening.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Gerald Harvey.
Burial will be in the Springcreek Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

Sage died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born on Jan. 5, 1949 in Clinton, the son of Nelson Jr. and Lyeia (Youngbear) Sage.
He was reared and attended school in Geary, serving in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1973.
A direct descendant of the Arapaho Chief Powderface and Chief Littleraven, Sage loved to cook Indian food for Indian dances and Indian Falls Creek at the Glorietta Baptist Church.
He enjoyed sports and was a pitcher for Indian softball games, having pitched for a team which went to the national finals four years in a row.
Sage was employed by Clinton Indian Health Services. He was a member of the Swapping Back Baptist Church, Southwest Vietnam Veterans, Arapaho Sundance Lodge at Ethele, Wyo., vice-chairman of the Cheyenne-Arapaho Labor Day Celebration and an Arapaho chief this past year.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents, were two sisters, DeAnn Sage, Maudeen Sage; and a brother, Wesley Sage, Sr.
Burial will follow in the Concho Indian Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

Funeral services for Larry Allen Schreiner, age 48 and a 1971 Clinton High School graduate, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the First United Methodist Church in Clinton with Rev. Larry King officiating.
Schreiner died unexpectedly early Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at the Clinton home of his mother where he had been recuperating from back surgery. He was born on March 25, 1953 in Hutchinson, Kan., the son of Lawrence D. “Larry” and Ginger (Gravlee) Schreiner.
Allen, as he was known to his family and friends, was reared in Clinton. He attended Clinton schools where he was active in Speech Club and FFA, raising Charolais cattle.
After graduation, he went on to further his education at Oklahoma State University. Schreiner also had earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
He worked for MapCo Oil Field Co. and traveled extensively, settling in Oklahoma City in 1987.
He also worked for Total and for the past six years was a district manager for Sav-A-Stop.
Schreiner was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He loved to golf, fish, hunt and write poetry.
Preceding him in death were his father, Larry Schreiner; his paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Jo Schreiner; and his maternal grandfather, J.E. Gravlee.
Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

Funeral services for Alijah Wilson “Badger” Black, age 63, Cordell resident, were held this afternoon at the First Church of the Nazarene in Carnegie with Jerry Tate officiating.
Black died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at his home in Cordell. He was born on Nov. 14, 1938 in Dill City, the son of Woodrow W. and Mary Murphy Black.
At the time of his death he was a district lineman for the Carnegie-Hobart area of AEP/Public Service Co. of Oklahoma.
He was a member of the Baptist Church, IBEW Union Local No. 1002, the Masons and Shriners.
Black worked as a lineman most of his life in electrical power line construction for contractors John T. Jones, L.E. Meyers, Perry Electric and Midland & Comstock across Louisiana, Texas, Kansas, Massachusetts, California, Arkansas and Kentucky.
He began working for PSO in 1988 and remained in that position until his illness.
In 1997 he was married to Jeannie Trent of Cordell, and they made their home there.
Burial was in the Apache Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Belle (Muno) Simpson, age 81, Clinton resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the First Baptist Church Chapel with Rev. Bryan Gilbert officiating.
Mrs. Simpson died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at the Methodist Health Center in Clinton. She was born on Jan. 13, 1921 in Clinton, the daughter of John and Ollie (Cope) Muno.
She grew up in Lenora near Taloga and attended school there before moving to Oregon during World War II where she worked in a factory to support the war effort.
After moving back to Oklahoma in 1944, she went to work at the TB Sanitarium where she met William Augustus “Mike” Simpson, and they were married the same year.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1951.
She moved from Clinton to Oklahoma City several times before finally settling back in Clinton in 1969.
Mrs. Simpson worked at both the Ralph’s Truck Stop, Big Sky and Cherokee Restaurants where she was known for her coconut cream pies.
She had also done child care before retiring in 1990. In her spare time Mrs. Simpson enjoyed cooking, reading and crocheting.
Preceding her in death were her husbands; her parents; two sons, Ricky Hutchins and Rayford “Chuckie” Simpson; five brothers, Leslie, Otis, Garvin, Randolph and Rayford Muno; and five sisters, Mable Upchurch, Daisy Snider, Iona Waid, Ruby Cryer and Ethel Jones.
Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

Memorial services for Mrs. Marcha Kelley Gearhart, age 83, reportedly Clinton’s first councilwoman, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel at 3612 E. 91st Street in Tulsa.
Mrs. Gearhart died Sunday afternoon, Jan. 27, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She was born on Feb. 11, 1918.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Gearhart and his wife, Dianne, of Clear Lake City, Texas, Dr. John K. Gearhart and his wife, Diane, of Tulsa; and two grandchildren, Julie Gearhart Cromar and J. Bradley Gearhart.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Earl (Jack) H. and Myrtle Kelley; a brother, Earl; two sisters, Emily and Edith; and her husband, Herb T. Gearhart, who died Dec. 8, 1998.

Graveside services for Mrs. Willow Marie Waldrup, age 78, Coweta resident, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Vernon Cemetery with Rev. Gary Rogers officiating.
Mrs. Waldrup died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at her home. She was born on April 14, 1923 in Oolagah, the daughter of Austin and Maggie (Cannon) Hart.
She received her education in Talala. In September of 1956 she was married to Claude Waldrup.
Mrs. Waldrup was a caregiver for 15 years. She was a member of the First Assembly of God and enjoyed gardening, flowers, buying and selling, cooking and flea markets.
Survivors include two sons,. James Claude Waldrup, Harley Waldrup, both of Coweta; a daughter, LaDonna Neely of Clinton; three brothers, Harold Richmond, Junior Ray Richmond, both of Hulbert, Leon Richmond of Wagoner; seven sisters, Fontreba Teague of Hulbert, Pauline Chaudions of Moody, Don Virginia Henson of Spavinaw, Billie Cooper of Tahlequah, Kaye Hart, Faye Hart, Carolyn Hart, all of California; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tennie Scott's rites Saturday - @ 2:51 pm PST
Funeral services for Mrs. Tennie Scott, age 71, Clinton resident, formerly of Butler, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Butler Schools Auditorium with Rev. Roy Wilburn officiating.
Mrs. Scott was born on Nov. 23, 1930 at Hollis, the daughter of Otho and Lorean Morris.
She graduated from Hollis High School and was married to Norman Reubin Scott on June 1, 1950 at the First Methodist Church in Hollis.
They moved to Butler in 1963, and Mrs. Scott provided day care for children of some of the teachers.
Then, in 1968, she went to work at the school as a teacher’s aide, later becoming the school secretary.
She retired in 1988 and moved to Clinton in 1998. Mrs. Scott enjoyed bowling and going to eat with friends. She also volunteered at the Clinton hospital.
Interment will follow at the Butler Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Don Scott and his wife, Rhonda, of Clinton; a brother, Ladd G. Morris and his wife, June, of Colville, Wash.; sisters-in-law, Jolene Morris of San Marcos, Texas, Faye Morris of Amarillo, Texas; and grandchildren, Kip, Kory and Kyla Scott.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents and husband, were a brothers, Nate Morris, Bobby Jess Morris and Max Morris; and a nephew and a niece.
The family suggests that those who desire may make memorial contributions in her honor to the Southwest Baptist Children’s Camp in care of the First Baptist Church in Clinton.

Funeral services for Victor R. Whitehawk Rodriguez (Verjan), age 41, of Lexington Park, Md., will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Koinonia Mennonite Church in Clinton.
Rodriguez died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002. He was born at Hammon, the son of Jesus Verjan and Lorena Whitehawk.
Maternal grandparents were the late Chief Amos Whitehawk of Hammon and Anna Otterby Whitehawk of Deer Creek-Weatherford.
Interment will be at the Clinton Indian Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include his twin sister, Anna, of Moreno Valley, Calif.; a son, Ryan of Maryland; sisters, Rose of Sacramento, Calif., Victoria of San Bernardino, Calif., Trina of Weatherford, Laura of El Reno, Yvonne of Las Vegas, Nev., Christina of Downey, Calif.; a brother, Jesse of La Puente, Calif.; adopted parents, Lupe and Toni of E.L.A., Calif.; an adopted brother, Ralph of San Francisco, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Guy Warren Shira, age 76, Thomas resident, were held this afternoon in the Mound Valley Cemetery at Thomas with Rev. Cecil Kimberlin officiating.
Shira died Saturday evening, Jan. 19, 2002, at the Grace Living Center in Clinton following a battle with cancer. He was born on March 11, 1925 in Carthage, Mo.
Reared in the Joplin, Mo. area, at a young age he ran away from home and worked with the circus before meeting his wife, Eliza F. Van Hyning. They were married on June 16, 1949 in Hobart.
They made their homes in Texas, Illinois and Western Oklahoma, settling in the Thomas area in 1978.
He had worked as a prison guard, and had several other contract labor-type jobs.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents, were his wife; a son, Richard Shira in 1973; four brothers, Osa, Shorty, Willard, Lester; a sister, Beulah Woolridge; and a grandchild.
Burial will be under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Shrum of Rockport, Ill., Emma Almeda of Aurora, Ill.; two sons, Ernie Shira and his wife, Phyllis, of Farnsworth, Texas, Kline Beverlin of Thomas; two sisters, Sarah Fritch of Scammon, Kan., Bertha Bennett of Garden City, Kan.; a brother, Everett Shira of Carl Junction, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Betty Jean (Halyard) Woodall, age 68, Clinton resident, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002 at Kindred Hospital in Oklahoma City.
She was born on Aug. 15, 1934 in Fort Worth, Texas and spent her early years in a Catholic orphanage.
In 1956 she was married to Elbert H. Woodall, and they made their home in Fort Worth before moving in 1973 to Oklahoma City.
Mrs. Woodall was employed by Altec Manufacturing until she retired and moved to Clinton in 1998.
Preceding her in death were her husband in 1985; two children, Darrell and Darla; and a brother, James Plunkett.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton. No services are planned at the present time.
Survivors include two daughters, Jacqueline Sue Stevens and Jennie Pearl Edmondson, both of Fort Worth, Texas; a son, Richard Lee Green of Topeka, Kan.; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Prominent Clinton attorney James R. “Jim Bob” Wright, Jr. succumbed while quail hunting with friends near Cheyenne on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002. Memorial services have been scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Clinton with Rev. Larry King officiating.
Wright was born on Nov. 30, 1946 in Stillwater, the son of James Robert “Bob” Wright and Audie Ruth (Brown) Wright.
He began school at Cheyenne and moved to Clinton when he was in the fifth grade, graduating from Clinton High School in 1965.
He played baseball at Yale University where he graduated in 1969 and went on to work as a sportswriter for the Norman Transcript while attending the University of Oklahoma Law School.
Upon receiving his Juris Doctorate, Wright began practicing law in Cheyenne prior to opening a practice in Clinton in 1976. He also served a one-year stint in 1975 as the assistant district attorney in Custer County.
He continued going to his office in Cheyenne two days a week his entire career.
Wright was an active member of the Custer County Bar Association and state and national legal organizations.
He was a past chairman of the Oklahoma Judicial Nominating Committee and served on the board of directors of the Farmers Union Cooperative Royalty Company as well as in the U.S. Army Reserves.
The attorney was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clinton where he served as a lay leader, choir member and past president of the Board of Trustees.
Wright played football, basketball and baseball for the Clinton Red Tornadoes as well as American Legion baseball. Attending high school sports events in Clinton were a special passion of his.
He enjoyed coaching peewee baseball teams and attending sports events at OU and Oklahoma State University.
Wright also greatly enjoyed the outdoors, including trout fly fishing trips to northern New Mexico and quail hunting trips in western Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law, Mary Ford.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou (Ford) Wright; and two daughters, Lauren and Rachel of Clinton.

Graveside services for Leroy Doyle Fox, age 74, Enid resident, were held Monday afternoon in the Butler Cemetery.
Fox died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, in the St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center at Enid. He was born on Feb. 17, 1927 at Leedey, the son of Walter and Zula Cornett Fox.
He attended school at Butler and was employed for many years by Sewell Brothers Construction Co. in Cordell.
Fox loved to hunt and fish. He lived in Cordell for 25 years before moving to Enid because of failing health to be near his son, Dewayne.
Survivors include his son, Dewayne Fox, and his wife, Anna, of Enid; a daughter, Roshelle Chapman and her husband, Dillon, of Apache, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Jamie, Erin Mae, Eric; and a sister-in-law, Margie Fox of Clinton.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers J.R., Foy, Holly, Buel, Lester; and a sister, Mamie.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Jane Day, age 89, long-time Camargo resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Camargo Christian Church.
Mrs. Day, who has several relatives in the Arapaho-Clinton area, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Elk City.
Interment will follow in the Camargo Cemetery with arrangements by the Shaw Funeral Home of Vici.

Gladys Wiebe death reported - @ 1:43 pm PST
The death of Gladys Ruth Wiebe, age 74, Springfield, Ill., on Friday, Dec. 14, 2001 at the Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, has been learned locally.
Mrs. Wiebe was the wife of Ralph Jacob Wiebe who was reared in Clinton and is among the survivors. Also among the survivors are two in-laws who live in the area, brother-in-law Al Wiebe of Clinton; and sister-in-law Leona Teeter of Foss.
Born on Dec. 3, 1927 in Marshall, Ill., Mrs. Wiebe was the daughter of Lloyd and Ruth N. Eitel Hanley.
She and Ralph Jacob were married in 1965 in Springfield.
Mrs. Wiebe was the owner and operator of First Lady Beauty Salon for 30 years. She also worked at Myers Brothers Beauty Salon for 12 years, retiring in 1995.
She was a member of the Springfield Cosmetologists Association and West Side Christian Church as well as being a former member of the Jockey Club.
Mrs. Wiebe was cremated and her remains placed in the Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to those listed above, include two stepdaughters, Suzanne Wiebe-Byus and Judy Beckman and her husband, Bill, both of Jacksonville, Ill.; five step grandchildren; 10 step great grandchildren; a brother, John “Jack” Hanley of Zephyrhills, Fla.; and two nieces.

Hallie Parker rites Friday - @ 2:03 pm PST
Funeral services for Mrs. Hallie Ellen Parker, age 96, Weatherford resident and former longtime Clinton resident and businesswoman, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church at Weatherford with Rev. Earl Stephenson officiating.
Mrs. Parker died at her home in Weatherford on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002. She was the fifth child born to William Gage and Nancy (Jackson) Lee in Hollis.
She grew up in the community of Hollis where her father farmed and operated a grocery store.
She attended the First Baptist Church in Dryden as well as the Dollar Hill School.
In 1922 her father sold the grocery store and moved the family to Norman. At the time, she was a senior in high school where she met and three years later married Claud Alvin Parker on Oct. 6, 1925. Their marriage was in Oklahoma City.
Following her graduation from Norman High School she attended the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1929 with a degree in home economics.
She and her husband both obtained their teaching certificates and started teaching in the Bowlegs area.
Mrs. Parker taught 49 students in the first through third grades while her husband taught the fourth through sixth grades and served as building principal.
In 1930 they moved to Clinton and bought an outdoor advertising business which they operated from 1930 to 1940. Hallie was the secretary of the operation.
After moving to Clinton she moved her membership to the First Baptist Church in Clinton where she was director of the third grade department for many years.
She was a member of the Senior Choir, WMU and counted money for the church for many years.
In 1935 she gave birth to the couple’s only child, Wayne Lee Parker.
The couple purchased an insurance and real estate company which they ran from 1940 to 1949. She worked in the office.
In 1949 they bought back the outdoor advertising business which they operated until they retired in 1963.
They continued to live in Clinton until they moved to Weatherford in 1999 to be closer to family. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and was active in the Garden Club.
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Weatherford under the direction of the Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Shirley Parker of Weatherford; two grandchildren, Phillip Parker and his wife, Jacqueline, and Nancy Dry and her husband, Jerry, all of Weatherford; and four great grandchildren, Aaron and Amy Parker and Michelle and Alexandria Dry.
Preceding her in death, along with her parents and husband, was her son, Wayne; a sister; and three brothers.
The family suggests that those who desire may make memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church or to the Custer County Division of the American Heart Association.

Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Ruth (Koch) Green, age 74, Oklahoma City resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Rosewood Chapel of the Branstetter-Merritt Funeral Home at 7720 S. Pennsylvania in Oklahoma City.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Bethel Cemetery at Hydro.
Mrs. Green died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Oklahoma City. She was born on Feb. 15, 1927 in Hydro, the daughter of Johnson and Lida Stanfill.
She was a retired employee of Southwestern Bell with 38 years of service.
Mrs. Green was a member of the Southern Hills United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City, Communication Workers of America and the Norman Wheels RV group.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Dale Green, of the home; a son, Lindel Koch of Clinton; two stepsons; two stepdaughters; brothers, G.C. Stanfill and his wife, Sandra, Hiram Stanfill and his wife, Myndy; a sister, Nina Sanders and her husband, Robert; a brother-in-law, Pete Green; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bose Jr. of Bessie and Bryan Bose of Clinton recently returned from Redlands, Calif. where they attended the funeral of Eric Jacobson of Redlands.
Eric was the son of Lloyd and Janice (Brady) Jacobson, also of Redlands.
He was killed Dec. 30 in a boating accident at Oceanside, Calif. while he and a friend were fishing.
Jacobson was a native of Clinton, having attended schools here. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1953.

Mrs. Regier died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at the Corn Heritage Village. She was born on Nov. 28, 1922 at Bessie, the daughter of Nicholas and Louise Stehr VonEssen.

The infant died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Oklahoma City where he had been since his birth. He was born on Dec. 24, 2001 in Oklahoma City, weighing 1 lb., 11 oz.

Ms. Walls died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Cordell Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 15, 1919 at Ozark, Ark., the daughter of Albert Wesley and Leona J. (Perry) Walls.

Funeral services for Mrs. Alma Engel Franz Epp, age 81, Corn resident, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Calvary Baptist Church in Corn with Bruce Miller and Bob Burkle officiating.
Mrs. Epp died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. She was born on June 22, 1920 in Main Center, Canada.
Reared in Corn, she attended school there and graduated in 1939.
She was married to Albert Franz on Sept. 26, 1945 before marrying Albert Epp on Jan. 29, 1982 in Corn.
A housewife, she was a charter member of the Calvary Baptist Church and an American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She also was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union.
Burial will follow in the Corn Mennonite Brethren Cemetery under the direction of the Lockstone Funeral Home in Weatherford.
Survivors include three daughters, Cheryl Wilson and her husband, Travis, of Liberal, Kan., Bonnie Trissell and her husband, Darrell, of Clinton, Marcia Sampson and her husband, Ralph, of Loyal; six grandchildren; and a great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death, along with her parents and husbands, Milton Franz, Albert Franz and Albert Epp; was a great grandson, Jacob Moser.

Margaret Musick rites Wednesday - @ 1:32 pm PST
Chapel services for Mrs. Margaret Lena Musick, age 96, Clinton resident, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton with Rev. Bryan Gilbert officiating.
Burial will be at a later date in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Overland, Kan.
Mrs. Musick died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002 at the Grace Living Center in Clinton. She was born on July 29, 1904 at McFall, Mo., the daughter of Sam and Maggie Belle (Doughty) Musick.
She attended through the ninth grade at Pallot Knob School, a one-room school in McFall, Mo.
On April 21, 1923 she was married to Theodore “Ted” Youngman before later marrying Christopher Columbus “Jack” Bush on Oct. 14, 1942.
She enjoyed organic gardening and had a beautiful rock garden in Missouri. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and tatting. She had moved to Clinton three years ago to be near her family.
Preceding her in death, along with her parents, were four brothers, Charley, Harvey, Freeman and Albert; five sisters, Rena, Rada, Inez, Mildred and Clema; a daughter, Marscella Rhoads; and a great grandchild, Mark Rhoads.
Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Rossberg and her husband, Dick, of Overland, Kan.; a brother, Sam Musick; five grandsons, Rusty Rhoads and his wife, Wanda, of Clinton, Jack Rhoads and his wife, Linda, of Geronimo, Gary Rhoads and his wife, Sara, of Moore, Richard Rossberg of Florida; a granddaughter, Shelley Christ and her husband, Kevin, of Overland, Kan.; seven great grandchildren, Vaudy Rhoads of Clinton, Kevin Rhoads of Indiahoma, Bryan Christ of Overland, Kan., Rhonda Nowlin of Clinton, Amy Rhoads of Geronimo, Mandy McMain of Moore, Erin Jolly of Wichita, Kan.; and 11 great-great grandchildren, Zack, Aaron, Charidee, Rowdy, Ashley, Tyler, Alyssa, Trenton, Garrett, Whitney and Dillon.

Robert Schmidt funeral Tuesday - @ 1:31 pm PST
Funeral services for Robert Schmidt, age 80, Bessie resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Herold Mennonite Church east of Bessie with Rev. Arlee Johnson officiating.
Schmidt died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. He was born on Feb. 25, 1921 in Laird, Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of Edward F. and Marie Schmidt.
In 1923 he moved to the family farm southeast of Bessie where he attended the Flynn Country School.
He then went into alternative service with the Civilian Public Service building roads and bridges.
Later, he went back to the farm and continued farming until his retirement two years ago.
Schmidt was a Sunday school superintendent and deacon of the Bible Mennonite Brethren Church in Cordell, helping to build the church.
He later was a member of the Herold Mennonite Church and served as a Sunday school teacher for years.
He was active on the Rural Water Board, District 2 and enjoyed baling hay as well as having coffee with his buddies.
Interment will follow at the Herold Mennonite Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include his daughter, Judy Goertz, and her husband, Jack, of Bremerton, Wash.; brothers, Eddie Schmidt and his wife, Eldeen, of Clinton, Louis Schmidt and his wife, Elvera, of rural Cordell; sisters, Helen Schmidt of Cordell, Ann Schmidt of Warrenton, Mo., Mary Lou Juett and her husband, Glenn, of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, South America, Katie Smith and her husband, George, of Denver, Colo.; sisters-in-law, Lela Schmidt of Newton, Kan., Jeannette Schmidt of Goshen, Ind., Janis Schmidt of Quaker Town, Pa., Doris Helms of Mesa, Ariz.

Eugene Hughes rites Wednesday - @ 1:29 pm PST
Memorial services for long-time Southwestern Oklahoma State University language arts professorDr. Eugene E. Hughes will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Weatherford with Father Shelby Scott of Broken Arrow officiating.
Dr. Hughes was an SWOSU professor for 22 years, serving as chairman of the Language Arts Department for 11 years.
He graduated as valedictorian of his class at Stafford High School west of Clinton in 1951 and received a Bachelor of Arts from Southwestern in 1954.
He attended graduate school at the University of Oklahoma before entering the military where he served from 1957 to 1960 in the U.S. Army Counterintelligence Corps, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany.
He received a Master of Arts from the university in 1960 and went on to serve as an English instructor at East Central State College from 1962 to 1963 and at Southwestern in 1963 to 1964.
He entered doctoral study at the University of Missouri where he received a PhD in December, 1966. In January, 1967 he was appointed chairman of the Language Arts Department at SWOSU where he served until 1978.
At that time, he resigned as chairman and continued to teach in the department before retiring from the school in December, 1987 as professor emeritus.
He was an active member of the Modern Language Association, the College English Association and the Oklahoma Council of Teachers of English.
Dr. Hughes was born on July 12, 1933 at Butler, the son of Raymond and Lillie Mae Hughes.
He died on Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, in Broken Arrow.
Preceding him in death were his father and a stepdaughter, Vicki Parks.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte, of Weatherford; his mother, Lillie Mae, of Clinton; his daughter, Janet Baxter and her husband, Mike, of Tulsa; his son, Daniel (Bud) of Norman; his stepdaughter, Mary Lynn Lenz and her husband, Richard, of Mobile, Ala.; grandchildren, Danny, Jordan and Jeff Baxter and Kelly Pruitt and her husband, Chance, and great grandson, Blake Pruitt, all of Tulsa; a brother, Jim Hughes and his wife, Carmileta, of Arapaho; two sisters, Shirley Johnson and her husband, Jerry, and Virginia Lowell and her husband, Brice, all of Oklahoma City; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Chapel services for Mrs. Allie Zelma George, age 104, former Stafford resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton with Rev. Alvis Merrill and Rev. Frank Norred officiating.
Mrs. George died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at Vivian’s Nursing Home in Amarillo, Texas. Allie Zelma Snelson was born Nov. 22, 1897 near Cleburne, Texas, the daughter of Hugh and Laura (Ballenger) Snelson.
She was married to Chester George on Sept. 6, 1914 south of Canute. They had been married for 75 years when he died in 1990.
The couple had lived in California, Texas and Oklahoma while her husband worked for the railroad before moving to Stafford in 1958.
Mrs. George had lived there until 1993 when she moved to Amarillo to be close to her family.
A devout member of the Stafford Baptist Church, she loved to read and had read the Bible through 43 times. She also was an avid gardener and enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables from her garden.
Preceding her in death, along with her parents, were three sisters; a brother; four daughters, Connie George, Bessie Robertson, Laura Robertson, Mary Silver; and three grandchildren.
Burial will be in the Stafford Cemetery west of Clinton.
Survivors include two sons, Chester E. George and his wife, Sarah, of San Bernardino, Calif., Edwin L. George and his wife, Mary, of Amarillo, Texas; 10 grand-children; nine great grandchildren; and 54 great-great grandchildren.

Eugene Hughes service planned - @ 3:15 pm PST
Memorial services for Dr. Eugene Hughes, age 68, retired long-time professor and chairman of the Language Arts Department at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Weatherford.
The family has established a memorial scholarship fund in honor of Dr. Hughes with the Southwestern Foundation, 100 Campus Dr., Weatherford, OK 73096.
A full obituary is planned for release early this week.
