ROOSTER OWINGS Services for Leslie Carl "Rooster" Owings, 44, of Anadarko will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4 at the Steverson Funeral Chapel in Anadarko. Visitation will be until 9 o'clock tonight and until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Owings was born Jan. 17, 1961 in Oklahoma City to George Alfred and Mattie Marie (Haynes) Owings and passed from this life Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006 at his home in Anadarko. He was preceded in death by his father; grandparents, Mollie and George Haynes and George E. and Mary Owings; his '2nd Mom,' Bessie Tallent; his brother-in- law, Steve Nation; uncles, Ted Lee Owings, John Owings, Bill Haynes and Elmer Haynes, and his aunts, Barbara Drake, Lula Shelton and Noble Samples. Except for a few years when he went to Central Union Elementary in Lemoore, Calif., he was a lifetime resident of Anadarko and attended Anadarko schools. He graduated from Anadarko High School with the Class of 1980. He learned the welding trade in his FFA class. His first job was with Roger's Tire Service. He did farm work for several area farmers and for the next 18 years he worked for Lee's Muffler Shop. He then worked for Don Rider, Rex Bottom, and Hollytex, and was working back at Roger's Tire Service until his illness. Mr. Owings enjoyed motorcycles, hot rods, hunting, fishing, and searching for mushrooms, and arrowheads. His daughter, Misty Dawn, was the light of his life. Survivors include Laurie Carter Owings of the home; one daughter, Misty Dawn Owings of Gracemont; one son, Sean Carter of the home; one brother, Melvin Owings and his wife, Linda, of Anadarko; two sisters, Linda Survance of Arizona, and Carol Nation of Anadarko; his mother, Marie Owings of Anadarko; three aunts, Fannie Nance of Asher, and LuAnn Robertson and Betty Welch, both of Anadarko; a nephew, James Survance of Hawaii; a niece, Benny Larue Carter of Anadarko; many other relatives and a wide circle of loving and caring friends. Burial will be in Anadarko's Memory Lane Cemetery under the direction of Steverson Funeral Home. The family has requested that, instead of flowers, donations be made to help with expenses.
