submitted by Bonnie McDonald bonniemcd@sbcglobal.net Melton, Mary Caroline Gray Carnegie Herald, May 27, 1936 Funeral Rites for Aged Mother, 21st Funeral services were held at the Alfalfa Baptist church Thursday for Mrs. Wm. M. Melton, a resident of this state for more than 30 years, who passed away Wednesday after a serious illness of about two weeks. Rev. W.A.R. Lovell, Christian minister, conducted the service and interment was made in the Alfalfa Cemetery under the direction of the Pitcher Funeral Home. Mary Caroline Gray was born Feb. 22, 1849, died May 20, 1936, aged 87 years, two months and 28 days. She was born in Warren county, Tennessee, but moved to Searcy county, Arkansas, when just a child. In 1869 she was married to William M. Melton; to this union was born 10 children, two of these died in childhood. Those living are: J.A. Melton, Manford, Okla.; Mrs. J.W. Reece, Carnegie; J.M. Melton, Hot Springs, Ark.; Mrs. W.S. Treece, Leslie, Ark.; C.H. Melton, Fort Cobb; Mrs. M.F. Cornuwell, South Gate, Calif.; J.G. Melton and G.H. Melton, Carnegie. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist church. She and her husband moved to Oklahoma in 1902. Her husband preceded her in death, having died Jan. 30, 1931. She leaves to mourn her passing besides the eight children, 40 grand-children, 56 great grand-children, two sisters, Mrs. John Riggins of Cordell and Mrs. J.H. Jones of Carnegie; two brothers, Mack Gray, Oklahoma City, and W.G. Gray, Carnegie, and a host of friends.
