Caddo Co. OK - Newspaper The Minco Minstrel Submitted by: Nancy Charlton ============================================================================== March 6, 1909 On Wednesday of last week was begun at Anadarko, the second trial of Thomas Gibbons charged with the murder of T.C. Renfro in 1906 at his home near Cogar, about 49 witnesses will be examined and big crowds have attended the trial. Gibbons was first tried jointly with M.C. Reddington for the murder, but the latter's case was dismissed by Judge Irwin. Gibbons was tried before Judge Gillette, convicted and given a life sentence. His motion for a new trial in the district court was overruled. A appeal to this Supreme Court resulted in a demand for retrial on the ground of error in the Judge's instructions to the jury. Subsequent to the first trial Mrs. Renfro married Mr. Notson, a Binger attorney, who is assisting Col. Johnson in the prosecution of Gibbons. Some of the ablest criminal lawyers in Oklahoma are engaged in the case and the trial is exciting great interest. Gibbons is making a splendid showing in the defense and appears confident of acquittal. ==============================================================================
