W.S. TILTON DIES AT HOME IN BURBANK, CALIF. A telegram from MRS. ROVILLA SKAGGS, Los Angeles, Calif., to her brother, H.M. TILTON stated that MRS. W.S. TILTON died at Burbank, Calif., Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. While in recent months Mrs. Tilton had apparently showed marked improvement, she had been in poor health for the past two years. MR. and MRS. W.S. TILTON were married at Los Angeles in July, 1920, and lived at Anadarko until September, 1923. W.S. for a number of years was the associate editor of the Anadarko Tribune. Since 1923 they made their home at Burbank. Mrs. Tilton was a noble woman and one worthy of the great affection in which she was held by all who knew her. H.M. TILTON and family visited at the W.S. TILTON home in California this summer, and her kindness and motherly love will always remain among their most cherished memories. No funeral arrangements had been made at the time the telegram was sent. Of her immediate family Mrs. Tilton is survived by her husband; one sister, MRS. EMMA CAMPBELL of Los Angeles; one son, FRANK BEYEA of Burbank, and one daughter, MRS. MAUD CLARK of Glendale, Calif. W.S. TILTON is the father of H.M., TATE, TODD and TED TILTON and MRS. E.T. COOK, all of Anadarko. --------------- K.A. KILLEY, aged 77, died at the home of his son, O.E. KILLEY, in Chickasha, Wednesday, Aug. 29. Mr. Killey had spent the summer in Chickasha and on the Sunday before was in Anadarko at the home of MRS. O.E. KILLEY's sister, MRS. G.C. WAMSLEY. The remains were accompanied To Scottsburg, Ind., the home of the deceased, by Mr. and Mrs. O.E. Killey. ---------------- MRS. E.J. ALLEN DIED AT CHICKASHA WEDNESDAY Following a lingering illness, MRS. E.J. ALLEN, aged 58, died Wednesday morning, Aug. 29, about 6 o'clock at the home of her daughter, MRS. CLYDE ALLEN DUNCAN, at the Price apartments on South Fourth street, Chickasha. Mr. Allen died about a year ago. The deceased was born in Miller county, Missouri, and with her husband and family moved to Oklahoma 25 years ago and made their home in Ada until about 12 years ago when they moved to Chickasha. She had been making her home with another daughter, MRS. ARTHUR SPEARING, 1706 Idaho avenue, Chickasha, until about two months ago. She is survived by three sons, C.W., CLIFF and EARL ALLEN of Washington, Okla., and three daughters, MRS. FRED KiING of Anadarko, and MRS. CLYDE ALLEN DUNCAN and MRS. ARTHUR SPEARMAN(sic) of Chickasha. Funeral services were held at the First Christian church of Chickasha Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock and interment was in Rose Hill cemetery. OBITUARIES MRS. ELLA D. BROWN, wife of the late J.M. BROWN, was born May 11, 1873 and departed this life August 31, 1928, aged 55 years, 3 months and 20 days. She is survived by three sons, LJ. of West Haven, Conn., and CLARENCE and ROBERT, and one daughter, FLORENCE, of Anadarko, and a Host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by REV. SAM D. TAYLOR at the Baptist church Sept. 2 at 2:30 p.m. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery, Chickasha, under direction of Farmer & Grimmett. -------------- GEORGE CAMPBELL TIGHKABO, aged 8 years, died August 29. Funeral Services were conducted by REV. H.H. TREAT at Red Stone church Thursday afternoon, August 30. Interment was in Red Stone cemetery under direction of Farmer & Grimmett. ------------- MRS. LOTTIE MAE WILLIAMS was born March 8, 1899, and departed this life August 29, 1928. She leaves her husband, J.S. WILLIAMS, two daughters and a small son and many other relatives to mourn her going. Funeral services were conducted by REV. WARD of Cement, assisted by REV. ADAMS at the Farmer & Grimmett Funeral Home. Interment was in Anadarko cemetery. ------------- AGUSTIN MARA, infant daughter of MR. and MRS. GERONIMO MARA, was born August 28, died Sept 2, aged 5 days. W.S. TILTON HELD SATURDAY The following notice and obituary of MRS. W.S. TILTON was taken from The Burbank (Calif.) Tribune of Sept. 6: Several organizations of which she was a member are expected to attend en masse, the funeral of ALLIE TILTON, which is to be held at the Little Church of Flowers in Forest Lawn cemetery, at 10 o'clock Saturday morning. She was a member of the Woman's Relief Corps of the G.A.R. post of Glendale and had many friends among the ladies of the G.A.R. Circle. Being a member of the Presbyterian church, REV. T.C. STEVENSON will officiate, assisted by REV. CLIFFORD A. COLE of Glendale. Mrs. Tilton was born at Daleville, Indiana, October 24, 1857. In 1899, her two sons having gone to Los Angeles to live, she, too, went there, where she lived until about twelve years ago, locating then in Glendale, where she acquired residence property on West Broadway. She was a trained nurse, and for many years followed this profession in Los Angeles and Glendale. July 26, 1920 she was united in marriage to WINFIELD S. TILTON of Anadarko, Okla. They lived at Anadarko, for three years, making their home a part of the time at the State Union Soldiers' Home at Oklahoma City, of which institution Mr. Tilton was one of the trustees. Besides the husband, a daughter, MRS. MAUDE CLARK of Glendale and a son, FRANK BEYEA of this city, a sister, MRS. EMMA CAMPBELL of Los Angeles, are near relatives who survive Mrs. Tilton. A daughter passed away in infancy and WILLIAM BEYEA, a son, died in 1913. She was a loving wife and mother and had unbounded love for her Children and grandchildren, as well as a manifested friendship for all Her friends. -------------- SAMUEL W.THOMPSON, aged 66, died at the family home, 112 West Washington, August 29, after a lingering illness. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and four sons --MRS. CHARLIE CAMPBELL of Washita, MRS. NORA INGRAM of Chickasha, OSCAR, SAMPSON and DEWEY of Anadarko and RICHARD HOLDREGE of Denison, Texas. Funeral services were conducted by REV. F.L. FARRINGTON at the residence, August 30, at 2:30 p.m. Burial was in the Anadarko cemetery under direction of the Gish Funeral Home. --------------- MRS. MARY E. McDAVITT MRS. MARY E. McDAVITT was born in Iowa June 24, 1853 and moved with her parents to Bates county, Mo., when but a small child. She was married to JAMES F. McDAVITT July 1, 1880. Their early married life was spent in their beautiful rural home at Round Prairie, Mo. In 1897 they moved to Eldorado Springs for Mrs. McDavitt's health where they remained until 1902, she having fully recovered. In 1902 they became residents of Anadarko. Mrs. McDavitt was a member of the New Prospect Cumberland Presbyterian church in Bates county, Mo. She, with her husband, united with the Presbyterian church of Anadarko by letter April 8, 1905. She joined the Social union in October of the following year and the missionary society in October of the following year. In both societites she was a faithful worker until failing health confined her to her home. Mr. McDavitt died June 6, 1916, in his home on East Oklahoma where Mrs. McDavitt had continued to live until she joined her husband in the Eternal City on Sept. 6. CARD OF THANKS My heart is so full of gratitude for all the loving sympathy and assistance of friends and neighbors of my dear aunt, MRS. MARY McDAVITT, during her life amongst you, and especially during her last illness, that I find no words adequate to express it. N.E. WHISENHUNT died at the family home, nine miles northwest of Anadarko, August 31, aged 69 years. The remains were shiped to Octavia, Okla., Sept. 1, where funeral services and burial took place. the Gish Funeral Home was in charge. GEORGE MITCHELL GEORGE MITCHELL was born in Indiana Feb. 9, 1866, and passed away at The family residence in Cement, Okla., Sept. 4, 1928. He is survived by His wife and three daughters. Funeral services were conducted from the Pentecostal church Thursday afternoon, Sept. 6. The body was taken to Chickasha by Farmer & Grimmett and forwarded to Wichita, Kansas, for interment. LOVENA MAE JOHN LOVENA MAE JOHN, six-month-old daughter of MR. and MRS. LAWRENCE JOHN, was claimed by death Sept. 5. Funeral services and burial were at Alden under direction of Farmer & Grimmett. MRS. MAUDE ELIZABETH JOHNSON MRS. MAUDE ELIZABETH JOHNSON was born in Weatherford, Texas, June 18, 1884; passed away at the family residence in Shamrock district at 11 a.m. Sept. 8, 1928, aged 44 years, 2 months and 21 days. She was united in marriage to J.E. JOHNSON Feb. 5, 1903. To this union eight children were born, seven boys and one girl. The daughter preceded her mother in death ten years ago. Mrs. Johnson had been a member of the Methodist church since she was 15 years old, living a constant Christian life. She was a faithful wife and a devoted mother. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon by REV. A.H PONATH. Interment was in Anadarko cemetery under direction of Farmer & Grimmett. CADDO COUNTY CORRESPONDENCE Anadarko, Route One MRS. JIM JOHNSON passed away at her home on the Popejoy place last Saturday after a lingering illness of two years, at the age of 44. Mrs. Johnson was converted and joined the Methodist church at the age of 15 years. She leaves her husband and several children to mourn for her. The funeral was Sunday at 2 p.m. at the M.E. church in Anadarko. REV. A.H. PONATH, pastor, preached the funeral sermon to a large congregation. WEBSTER TAKES OWN LIFE WEDNESDAY Despondency Over Family and Past Troubles Are Thought to Have Prompted Tragedy W.M. WEBSTER, 68, shot himself to death Wednesday evening about five o'clock with a .45 caliber revolver. The tragedy occurred before a daughter, stepdaughter and her little 5 year old son, at his home in Bath addition. A short time before the tragedy Mr. Webster brought home the gun Wrapped in a newspaper. It is said he had previously remarked to his two daughters, who were making their home with him, that he would paint for them a picture they would not soon forget. Children playing across the street were attracted by the disturbance And notified neighbors of the shooting. Mr. Webster was at one time a prosperous farmer living near Hobart. Family and other troubles at that time greatly reduced his circumstances. He had been living in the southwest part of Anadarko for about four or five years. His time was occupied with truck farming and other odd jobs at which he seemed quite successul. Deceased was a distinguished looking man and according to those who Best knew him, was well informed on most any subject. A short time before the tragedy he told one of his neighbors he was planning to go away. He said he might return soon or he might remain permanently. He had long been a sufferer from some sort of an ailment that afflicted the brain. He was at one time sent to Supply, Okla., on this account but seemed to have recovered. It is thought, however, that he took his life due to an unbalanced condition arising from the old ailment. Relatives of the deceased known in Anadarko are a daughter MARY, son CHARLEY who has been working for State Fuel Supply Co at Rush Springs and a stepdaughter MINNIE and her son, five years old. His wife died last winter. DESPONDENCY CAUSE OF SUICIDE SUNDAY NOON ERNEST ARTHURS, aged 26, who had been a resident of Anadarko for some time, having moved here from Binger, committed suicide in the back yard at his mother-in-law's home, 202 West Kansas, at noon Sunday, Sept. 16 by shooting himself. Despondency was assigned as the cause of the act. The body was placed in charge of the Gish Funeral Home and was taken to his former home at Binger where interment was made in the cemetery there Monday. A large crowd was present at the funeral. SIMON LAMB, AGED 82 YEARS, DIED MONDAY SIMON LAMB, aged 82 years, 10 months and 15 days, died suddenly at his home, 206 South Twelfth street, at 2:15 a.m., Monday, September 17. Funeral services were conducted at the family home Tuesday by REV. ALOYSIUS HITTA, with the Gish Funeral Home in charge. Interment was in the Anadarko cemetery. Deceased is survived by his wife and the following children: WILLIAM, JIM, CHARLES and JOHN, all of Anadarko; MRS. ELMER RILEY, Anadarko; MRS. CORA DEVOGE, Wichita, Kansas, who with her son and ARCH LAMB and Family of Enid were present at the funeral. MR. and MRS. McCUNE of South Haven, Kansas, nephews, were also present. The pallbearers were CHRIS OELKE, JEROME EMENHISER, RALPH HARRIS, FRANK HEFLEY, SIMON SCHNEBERGER and MR. HERMES. SIMON LAMB was born in Tipperary county, Ireland, Nov. 1, 1845. He was married in 1864 to MISS SARAH FOY. To this union were born eight children, one dying in infancy. Mr. Lamb retired from his farm near Billings, Okla., twenty-one years ago and purchased a home in Anadarko. His death will be deeply mourned by his family, neighbors, and many friends who have known him for his sterling worth in the many years he has resided in this city. MRS. MARY MOPOPE MRS. MARY MOPOPE, aged 36, died at her home, 10 miles west of Anadarko, Saturday, Sept. 15. Funeral services and burial were at Rainy Mountain cemetery Sunday, Sept. 16, with the Gish Funeral Home in charge. DEATH OF BERT J. CROOKS BERT J. CROOKS died at the family home Wednesday, September 12, 1928, At 4 p.m. He was born at Buster, Indiana, July 26, 1868. In the sixtieth year of his life he passed away to his eternal home surrounded by his wife, family and friends who administered every effort to relieve his suffering which the doctor pronounced typhoid fever. He was a kind husband. A loving father and a faithful friend. To do good was his religion and the life he lived will be an example to the community. He was united in marriage to MISS AGNES LOOBY, March 8, 1906. Three children were born to this union, CLARK, LUCELLE and EDNA MAE, who with their mother survive him, together with one brother, CHARLES CROOKS of Ponca City, who was present at the funeral, and one sister, MRS. JENNIE HOFFMAN of Buster, Indiana, with a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at the Christian Church at Oney by REV. O'NEAL. The remains were laid to rest in the Oney cemetery under the direction of the Gish Funeral Home. She was the youngest daughter of MR. and MRS. L.L. JOHN. She was ill 11 days and everything possible was done but the good Lord, who always knows best, called her home out of this world of suffering. While her little form and her sweet smiles are missed by all, Heaven is richer and contains more for us. We never can call her back, but we can go to her. REV. W.C. CRAWFORD, pastor of Spring Valley church, had charge of the funeral services. Her body was laid to rest in the Alden cemetery to await the resurrection.
