Caddo Co. OK Newspaper - Anadarko Tribune Submitted By Sandy Miller ======================================================== The Anadarko Tribune Thursday, May 3, 1928 Vol. 27 No. 41 OBITUARIES Mrs. Frank S. Vandeveer LEOTA MARTHA STANLEY, youngest daughter of GEORGE W. and NANCY A. STANLEY, was born in McDonough county, Illinois, October 25, 1878, and died at her home in Ft. Cobb April 21, 1928, being 49 years, 5 months and 26 days old. She was married to FRANK S. VANDEVEER January 27, 1909, coming direct to Oklahoma, which has been her home since. To this union were born two sons, JOHN STANLEY, who died in infancy, and FRANK WESLEY who with the husband, three sisters and two brothers, together with a host of relatives and friends, are left to cherish her memory. Her influence will not soon be forgotten. Mrs. Vandeveer taught school in Illinois, Iowa and Oklahoma. She was a highly cultured woman and stood for all that was noble and good in life, but for several years had been handicapped by ill health. Two of her sisters, MRS. EFFIE PERRY of Moccasin, Montana and MRS. ELLA HENDRICKSON of Indianola, Iowa, were with her during her last sickness which she bore with great patience. Many times she had her son Wesley read to her from God's word the passage of scripture found in Hebrews 12:1, and many times during her last days repeated the words, "Let us run with patience the race that is set before us." She has run her race, and finished her course, "Looking unto Jesus," whom she accepted as her Savior many years ago and in whom her faith never wavered. Her funeral was preached at the Christian church at Ft. Cobb Sunday afternoon, April 22, by REV. E.E. DAVIDSON of Anadarko, and after the singing of the last hymn, "Lead Kindly Light," the pall bearers consisting of six women, three Rebekahs and three O.E.S. carried the casket to the waiting hearse and the long line of cars followed to the Pleasant View cemetery where members of the O.E.S., of which the deceased was past matron, had charge of the ceremonies over the beautiful flower laden casket. "Friends who have loved me are slipping away, Silently onward they glide. Still are their voices as backward they stray, Calling me over the tide."
