KING DIES AT SHAWNEE AND WAS BURIED AT CARTER J.W. KING, aged 84, pioneer resident, died at the home of his son GEORGE in Shawnee on Monday, June 25, after an illness of about two weeks. Mr. King had been in failing health for about one year but his condition became worse only a short time before his death. Mr. King had been a resident of Anadarko for some time and had made his home here with his son, GROVER KING, and family. He was a veteran of the Mexican-Indian war and was a scout during his enlistment. Deceased is survived by the following children: GROVER of Anadarko, HENRY of Chickasha, RUFUS and GEORGE of Shawnee; four daughters, MOLLIE, ETTA, EMMA and BIRDIE. The body was shipped to his old home at Carter where it was laid to Rest beside his wife, who preceded him to the Great Beyond twenty-seven Years ago. Friends of the family extend sympathy in this hour of grief. BUTLER. PIONEER CITIZEN PASSES JOHN MARTIN BROWN, aged 67 years, died at the family home, 515 West Broadway, at 9:45 p.m. July 1, 1928. He was born in the state of Illinois March 6, 1861. Deceased is survived by a son, BOB BROWN, and a daughter, MISS FLORENCE BROWN, both residents of Anadarko. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Tuesday afternoon by REV. SAM D. TAYLOR, with Farmer & Grimmett in charge, and interment was in Rose Hill cemetery, Chickasha. MARY F. YOUNG MARY F. YOUNG, formerly Mary F. CROUCH, departed this life on June 21, 1928, at the home of her daughter, MRS. THEODORE PRUETT, in Anadarko. She was born in Lincoln county, Missouri on the 21st day of June, 1853, and departed this life on her 75th birthday. At the age of 20 she was united in marriage to A.J. YOUNG of Quincy, Missouri. It was near this place she lived until about ten years ago, when she came to live with her daughter, MRS. THEODORE PRUETT. These ten years were years of much affliction, during which she was confined to her room most of the time. Short services were held at the home of Mrs. Pruett by REV. E.E. DAVIDSON. Her remains were taken to Quincy, Missouri and laid to rest In the cemetery near her old home. Children present at Anadarko were MRS. THEODORE PRUETT, MRS. R.B. TUCK of Enid and MRS. A.W. MADOUX of Oklahoma. Those present in Missouri were MRS. H.L. ALLEN of Findlay, Ohio, and OLIVER YOUNG of Quincy, Missouri. CARD OF THANKS MRS. DAVIDSON at the Christian chruch Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Burial was in the Anadarko cemetery. Frank SONCHES FRANK SANCHES, 65 years old, Anadarko, died at his home Tuesday. Funeral services were conducted by REV. J.J. METHVIN Tuesday afternoon. Burial was in the Roach cemetery. (NOTE: Name was spelled both ways.) Oscar Neconie Baby The INFANT SON of MR. and MRS. OSCAR NECONIE, Anadarko, died at the family home Monday. Funeral services were held at the Gish Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon. Burial was in the Anadarko cemetery. ----------------------------------------------------------------- The Anadarko Tribune Thursday, July 12, 1928 Vol. 27 No. 51 PROMINENT KIOWA INDIAN DIES RAY CODY DOYAH, aged 20, who was reared at Carnegie, died in an El Reno hospital following complications arising from an appendix operation, and the body was returned by the Gish Funeral home Friday. Saturday the body was taken to the old home at Carnegie where very impressive funeral services were held by REV. REED of Mount Scott, after which the body was interred in the Carnegie cemetery. Young Doyah was a student in Haskell Institute where he was prominent In athletics. He was a member of the star football team produced by the Carnegie high school some years ago. HURT WHILE RIDING RUNNING BOARD OF AN AUTOMOBILE GLEN ROYSTON of Cement received internal injuries and cuts and bruises about the body that occurred while he was riding on the running board of a car near Cement. He was rushed to a Chickasha hospital Sunday by DR. W.L. DIXON of Cement for treatment. This should act as a warning to parents who have been permitting their children to ride on the fenders and running boards of cars about town. DESPONDENCY CAUSE OF SUICIDE TUESDAY J.F. ERVINE, aged 72, who was born in Indiana Nov. 10, 1856, died at His home in Washita Tuesday evening as a result of self-inflicted gunshot wounds caused from despondency over ill health. Deceased had been working on the section until a few weeks ago when he was forced to quit owing to failing health. Tuesday evening all members of the family were out of the room and he procured an automatic revolver and sent a bullet through his brain, killing him instantly. He is survived by his wife and two sons, DOCK IRVINE(sic) of Colorado Springs and TOM IRVIN(sic) of Little River, Kansas and one daughter, MRS. BELLE SCHOONOVER of Washita. Funeral services will be conducted at the home today (Wednesday) by REV. E.E. DAVIDSON of Anadarko and interment will be in the Fort Cobb cemetery under the direction of Farmer & Grimmett, funeral directors. HUNTER INFANT DIES DANIEL HUNTER, aged four years and five months, passed away at the home of his parents, MR. and MRS. JIMMIE HUNTER, July 4. Funeral services were held July 5. Interment was in a private cemetery under the direction of Farmer & Grimmett. MATILDA KREIGER SCHULTZ MATILDS KREIGER was born July 26, 1869, 58 years, 11 months and 3 days later death came to claim her at her home, four miles west of Gracemont. She was married September 21, 1895 at Burton, Texas to RUDOLF SCHULTZ. Nine children blessed this union. The father and four children -- REINARD, HULDA, OTTO and ALVINE -- preceded her to the grave. She Leaves MINNIE, EDDIE, ANNIE, ELSIE, and WILLIS, three sisters, one brother and five grandchildren. She joined the German Methodist church and was a member here until they disbanded, and at that time her membership was transferred to Ellenwood, Kansas. In 1925 she transferred to the Gracemont Methodist Episcopal church. Mr. and Mrs. Schult(sic) came from Germany in 1889 and 1886, respectively; twenty years ago they moved to this community. Funeral services were at the Gracemont M.E. church, Sunday afternoon July 1, conducted by REV. J.A. COX. Interment was in the Oney cemetery under the direction of Farmer & Grimmett. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Anadarko Tribune Thursday, July 19, 1928 Vol. 27 No. 52 WM. GLASS DIES AT HIS HOME IN VERDEN SUNDAY JOHN WILLIAM GLASS, aged 56, died at his home in Verden Sunday, July 15, at 3:55 p.m. after an illness of several days. Deceased is a pioneer resident of Caddo county, moving here in 1905. He was a resident of Caddo county until five years ago since which time he has been a resident of Verden where he was engaged in buying cotton. Relatives surviving are his wife, three brothers, RUSSELL GLASS, county clerk and DEE of Anadarko, and JESTER of Norfolk, Va., and a sister, MRS. DAISY SHIRLEY of Anadarko, and seven children as follows: MRS. VELMA STROUD, Anadarko; JEWEL GLASS, New York City; CLYDE, ROY, WM. Jr., PRICE and VERA, all of whom are present except Jester of Norfolk, Va. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church, Anadarko, at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, conducted by REV. HENDRY of Verden, with interment in the Anadarko cemetery with the Gish Funeral Home in charge. Owing to his wide acquaintance and long residence here one of the largest crowds in the history of the city was present at the funeral. Mr. Glass was born in Corsicanna, Texas November 29, 1871. CEMENT YOUTH DIES FROM INTERNAL INJURIES GLEN ROYSTON, aged 15, died at a Chickasha hospital Monday as a result of injuries sustained when he was thrown from the running board of a car north of Cement while riding with other children. According to the story told, it seems that in crossing a culvert he lost his hold and fell. Death resulted from internal injuries. The esteem in which he was held is best described by the following tribute which is paid by a venerable old saint, REV. J.J. METHVIN, who held the service at the Methodist church Tuesay afternoon, at which time one of the largest crowds to ever attend a funeral in Anadarko was present. GLEN ROYSTON, son of MR. and MRS. EDWARD ROYSTON, was born May 8, 1913 in Stevens (Stephens) county, Oklahoma. He is survived by his parents, five brothers, CARL, EARL, ORIN, ROBERT and LEWIS, and two sisters, MRS. ORVIL HAVENS (Heavin) and MRS. WILFORD; his grandmother and a grandfather, besides a host of relatives and friends. Glen was possessed of a kind, generous nature. Ever carrying a pleasant smile indicative of a cheerful heart was his chief characteristic. In school he was a fine, hard working student, loved by teachers and pupils alike. He was anxious to go to high school and on till he finished his education. His aim was to become a good, dependable American citizen with all that a true citizenship meant. His character was shown by his attitude to all things Christian. He was president of the boys' farm club, elected unanimously by his mates. When asked by his teacher how he would open the club meetings, he replied that he would begin, as we do in the school with prayer and saluting the flag, thus indicating his faith in God and his native land. He had faith in God and believed in prayer and while lingering at the hospital he asked that his teacher come and pray with him ere he departed for the home beyond. He died July 16, 1928. We mourn not as those who have no hope. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church by Rev. J.J. METHVIN, with Farmer & Grimmett, funeral directors, in charge. Interment was in the Anadarko cemetery. BARTLETT FUNERAL HELD SATURDAY H.A. BARTLETT, aged 54, died at his home, six miles southwest of Ninnekah, Thursday morning and funeral services were held Saturday morning at 10:30 o'clock. Interment was in the Rose Hill cemetery. Mr. Bartlett had been a resident of the communtiy for about 28 years. He Was a native of Iowa and moved to Grady county in 1901. Death followed an attack of typhoid fever. In addition to his widow Mr. Bartlett is survived by his mother, MRS. MARY F. BARTLETT of Enid, three sons, CHARLES, LLOYD and CHESTER; two brothers, T.E. BARTLETT of Eureka, Utah and J.A. BARTLETT of Enid and two sisters, MRS. BESSIE RIDER of Chickasha and MRS. MELVINA HALDERMAN of Enid. --Chickasha Daily Express. CADDO COUNTY CORRESPONDENCE In and Around South Pioneer Nathaniel Nelson Avery NATHANIEL NELSON AVERY was born at Atlanta, Georgia, July 13, 1861, and died at Hutchinson, Kansas, July 10, 1928, lacking three days of being 67 years of age. He was married to MISS ARTESIA OVERTON in Fulton county, Georgia, in May, 1882 and to this unon were born seven sons and two daughters. Funeral services were conducted by REV. CLAUDE DeWITT of the Fort Cobb M.E. Church and interment was made in the Pleasant View cemetery, Friday afternoon, July 13, attended by a large concourse of friends and neighbors. The family lived in Oklahoma for 35 years. Ardmore being the old home, however Fort Cobb and vicinity has been their home for 15 years. On account of the failing health of Mr. Avery, they moved to Hutchinson this spring. JOHN AVERY, a son, has lived in this community for a nmber of years. Mr. Avery was a quiet man, a lover of flowers and little children. he leaves a brave-hearted wife, his children, a number of grandchildren and many friends to mourn for him. He united with the M.E. Church when 24 years of age and continued with the church until his death. The family expresses deep appreciation and thanks for every act of kindness shown them, and for the flowers. One card bore the names of 21 families, and to this grief stricken family is extended the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community. June 16 signed JAYHAWKER --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Anadarko Tribune Thursday, July 26, 1928 Vol.28 No. 1 INFANT FOUND BURIED SHALLOW RIVER GRAVE Two boys were traveling along the Washita river Monday happened to step into a hole along the bank which on examination proved to be a shallow grave which contained the body of an infant white girl baby. The discovery was reported to the officers and DEPUTY SHERIFF BOB DUTCHER and CITY MARSHAL FRANK HEFLEY went to the spot and dug up the body which was turned over to a local undertaking parlor for decent burial in the Anadarko cemetery Monday afternoon. Owing to the fact that the body had been dead for about three weeks identification was impossible. CADDO COUNTY CORRESPONDENCE Sickles MRS. ALBERT MOLENE (sic), Anadarko, died at the family home Sunday. Funeral services and burial were in the Roach cemetery Monday afternoon at three o'clock. Hershel Burns HERSHEL BURNS, 6 month old son of MR. and MRS. EDWARD BURNS, of Anadarko, died in the Lawton hospital Sunday night. Funeral services were conducted by REV. MARTINEZ at the Gish Funeral Home Monday afternoon at three o'clock. Burial in the Anadarko cemetery. Mrs. Dora Threet MRS. DORA THREET, 45 years old, living southwest of Fort Cobb, died at her home Monday morning. Funeral services and burial in the Carnegie cemetery.
