ARTHUR SILVERHORN and PVT. CECIL STUMBELINGBEAR. Joining the connecting branches of the service were Walker and Hendrix, Indian cousins. Walker entered the navy in August of 1942, took his boot training in San Diego, Calif. and then was stationed in San Francisco, Calif. Hendrix entered the Seabees in October of 1942, trained in Virginia and was sent to California. Private Silverhorn, 25, entered the army Jan. 14, 1942. He attended school at Stecker and was a farmer before entering the service. He is the son of Mrs. Hattie Silverhorn of Apache. Private Stumblingbear is the 19 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Stumblingbear of Anadarko. He attended school at Washita, Riverside Indian School and Chilocco. Entering the army May 27, 1943, he has been stationed with a quartermaster unit at Fort Francis E. Warren, Wyo. ---------------------------------------------- WALKER, S1C CHARLES H. entered the navy May 30, 1941 and was aboard the USS Magnolia. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Walker of Hinton. ---------------------------------------------- WALKER, CPL. JOHNNIE J., 21, is the son of Mrs. W.R. Wyatt of Anadarko. He was a member of the Oklahoma National Guard when it mobilized into the 45th Division. He is now in the European War Theatre. Before entering the armed forces he was employed as a grocery clerk and attended school n Anadarko. He is married and his wife and two sons make their home in California. ---------------------------------------------- WALKER, RICHARD L. entered the service five years ago and has been in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Walker of Anadarko. He graduated from Washita High School. ---------------------------------------------- WALLER, PFC. JOHN W. enlisted in the army in 1940 at Fort Sill in Lawton, Ok. and is attached to the 18th FA. He is the son of Mrs. Eula Waller, who lives north of Carnegie. His sister, Mrs. Leona Pattie Stocking, is now working at the Carnegie Hospital as a nurse. ---------------------------------------------- WARDEN, WILLIAM B. 'Jimmy', is stationed in Australia and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Brice Warden of Hinton. He is well known in the East Walnut district and northeast district of Hinton. ---------------------------------------------- WATERS, S2C OSCAR B., 32, is the son of Mrs. Mary E. Waters of Binger. He joined the navy May 30, 1944 and received his boot training at San Diego, Calif. He is now stationed at Camp Parks, Calif., where his wife and son have joined him. Previous to his naval service he was engaged in farming near Mt. View, Ok. ---------------------------------------------- WATSON, PFC LEONARD J. is the son of Mrs. Zona Watson of Anadarko. He attended school at Beuna Vista and entered the service on Nov. 1,1942. He has been stationed at Miami Beach, Fl. with the army air corps. ---------------------------------------------- WEATHERMAN, PVT. HAROLD, 23, is the grandson of J.B. Weatherman of Apache, who also has 10 other grandsons and one great grandson in the armed forces. He entered the service in August of 1943 and has been stationed with a tank battalion in the Hawaiian Islands. He attended school at Binger before entering the service and was employed by the Fox Rig and Lumber Company in Apache. His brother, LESTER WEATHERMAN, was taken prisoner by the Japanese at the fall of Bataan. He is married and his wife and baby make their home in Riverside, Calif. ---------------------------------------------- WEATHERS, PVT. FLOYD, 18, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A.G. Weathers of Anadarko. He is stationed at Camp Robinson, Ark. He attended schools at Shamrock and Wellington, Tex., and was employed on a California fruit farm for two years previous to entering the service. ---------------------------------------------- WEAVER, CPL. LEO, 23, is stationed at Camp Devens, Mass. with the 45th Division. He is the son of Mrs. Lena Weaver of Anadarko. His wife is with him now in Massachusetts. He attended Anadarko schools and was employed by a cleaning firm here before his enlistment. ---------------------------------------------- WEAVER, S-SGT. OSCAR C., 24, entered the army air corps in October of 1940 and has been stationed at Buckley Field, Colo. He is the son of Mrs. Lena Weaver and attended Anadarko schools. He is married and his wife now makes her home in Denver. ---------------------------------------------- WEBB, PVT. G. ELVIN, 20, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. G.H. Webb of Anadarko. He graduated from Anadarko High School and completed three months in the observation school at Fort Sill in Lawton, Ok. He is now stationed at Camp Livingston, La. His brother, Robert, is in the 45th Division and Oscar Lee 'Dude is in the navy somewhere in the South Pacific. ---------------------------------------------- WEBB, PFC. ROBER V. WEBB, 25, and OSCAR LEE WEBB, 24, are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. G.H. Webb of Anadarko. Both men finished school in Anadarko. Robert enlisted in the army Sep. 16, 1940 and is stationed with the 45th Division. Oscar is enlisted with the navy, second class petty officer, now stationed at Camp Bradford, Norfolk, Va. ---------------------------------------------- WEBER, PVT. ORVILLE L., son of Mr. and Mrs. C.R. Weber of Anadarko entered the service July 9, 1944. He received his basic training at Camp Fanin, Texas and was stationed for a short time at Fort Ord, Calif. before leaving for overseas duty in December of 1944. He is with an infantry division somewhere in the Philippine Islands. He is a graduate of Cyril High School, being class salutarian when he graduated in 1941. ---------------------------------------------- WEIDENMAIER, PFC. DARWIN N. volunteered for service the first of February and has been in the department of the Marine Corps in San Diego, Calif. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Weidenmaier of Fort Cobb. ---------------------------------------------- WEISS, LT. WILLIAM ROBERT, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Weiss. They received word from Washington of the death of their son. He died somewhere in the Pacific. Weiss, was a navy aviation pilot. The telegram stated 'he was killed in the perforance of his duty in the service of his country.' He was born Nov. 8, 1920 in Eastland, Texas. He is the eldest son. He attended school in Binger through his sophomore year and finished at Gainesville, Texas. He was in junior college at the time he enlisted in the navy before the war was declared. His brother, JACK WEISS, 19, is in the navy also, and will be arriving soon on leave to spend time with his family. His father is a driller with the Denver Producing Company and has lived in the Boake apartments since December. Lt. Weiss has a sister, Mrs. L.T. Schilling, recently of Fort Worth, Texas and now of Anadarko and a grandmother, Mrs. Raymond Martin of Harper, Kans. ---------------------------------------------- WESNIDGE, PVT. MABLE A., 24, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.N. Wesnidge of Carnegie. She entered in the WAC's in 1942, receivIng her basic training in Des Moines, Iowa and Pine Bluff Arsenal, Ark. She was honorably discharged in 1943 when the WAC's became part of the army. In 1944, she re-elisted in the WAC's and was sent to Fort Oglethorpe Ga., for procurement and assignment. She was transferred to Clovis, N.M. where she is now stationed. ---------------------------------------------- WHEELER, ENSIGN B.G., 21, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Wheeler of Capulin, N.M. He entered the navy in July of 1943 and was in the V-12 program at NTAC, Arligton, Texas until July of 1944. After which time he was sent to Columbia University in New York City, where he received his commission. He is the husband of the former Geraldie Gee. At the present time he is on duy on a tanker in the South Pacific. ---------------------------------------------- WHEELER, TECH-SGT. JOHN volunteered into the service in January of 1941. He is stationed at Camp Praiso in the Canal Zone. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Wheeler of Apache. He attended Apache High School. ---------------------------------------------- WHEELER, PVT. LOYD DAIL, 27, and PVT. RALPH FREELIN COTTON, 18, are brothers-in-law who are in the service. Pvt. Wheeler is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A.Z. Wheeler of Anadarko. He enlisted in the marine corps in November of 1942 and received his basic training in San Diego, Calif., going from there to San Francisco, Calif., where he embarked March of 1943. He is now somewhere in the South Pacific. His wife is making her home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy A. Cotton. Her brother, Pvt. Cotton, enlisted in the army in January of 1943 in a branch of the air corps. He attended schools in Caddo and Kiowa counties. He is now stationed at Camp Haan, Calif. Another brother, S-SGT. NELSON T. COTTON, is stationed at Camp Howze, Texas. ---------------------------------------------- WHITEHORSE, PFC. ROLAND is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charley Whitehorse of Anadarko. He attended Washita High School and entered the service Jan. 20, 1942. He was first stationed at Camp Wolters, Texas and after 13 weeks of training was then transferred to Fort Bragg, N.C. He is now stationed somewhere in Africa. ---------------------------------------------- WHITLEY, PVT. LAVON, 23, enlisted June 3, 1942 and is stationed at Camp Rucker, Al. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Whitley of Gracemont. He married the former, Beatrice Byrd, who is now with him. He attended Spring Creek School and was employed three years before enlisting. ---------------------------------------------- WILEY, PVT. BILLY L. is the son of Arther L. Wiley of Baytown, Texas. He is the son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Jones of Anadarko. He attended school in Anadarko and then worked at Baytown in a synthetic rubber plant. He volunteered into the service of the army air corps in October of 1942 and has been stationed at Laredo, Texas. He is married and his wife and baby are with him. ---------------------------------------------- WILEY, PFC. EARL R., 20, enlisted in the army Jan. 7, 1943 and is now stationed at Garden City Air Base in Garden City, Kans. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wiley of Anadarko and he attended school here. ---------------------------------------------- WILKERSON, LT. HOUSTON is the twin brother of Howard Wilkerson of Anadarko. He attended public school here as well as business college. He later moved to California where he obtained his first aviation training. He has been in the air corps for nearly two years and much of his basic training was received at Goodfellow Field, Texas, and he has also been stationed at Columbia, S.C. He has the distinction of being one of the few pilots to escape via parachute from a crashing B-52 bomber. ---------------------------------------------- WILKERSON, PVT. ROBERT B. received his training at Fort Bliss, Texas and is now on foreign soil. He has received a marksman medal. He is the nephew of Ross Wilkerson of Anadarko and D.L. Spears of Gracemont. ---------------------------------------------- WILLARD, LT. INA LEE, A.N.C., is the daughter of Mrs. Tracy Willard and is the niece of Mr. and Mrs. John B. McVey, with whom they make their home in Anadarko. She is also the niece of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mannschreck. She volunteered for service Nov. 16, 1942 in the 21st Evacuation Hospital Unit. She is now stationed in Needles, Calif. She was born near Carnegie and graduated from Anadarko High School in 1938. She attended the Oklahoma College for Women (OCW) in Chickasha, Ok. and then entered St. Anthony's School of Nursing in Oklahoma City. She graduated in May of 1942. ---------------------------------------------- WILLIAMS, jr., PVT. CLAUDE, 23, entered the service Jan. 8, 1942 and was first stationed at Camp Collins, Calif., and then was transferred to Seattle. He is now stationed at Dutch Harbor, Alaska. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Williams of Fort Cobb. He graduated from Minco High School. ---------------------------------------------- WILLIAMS, PVT HAROD R., 23, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Williams of Fort Cobb. He entered the service in November of 1942 and received his basic training at Miami, Fl. in the signal corps. He was injured in a car accident in Seattle, Wash. where he was stationed and for the past nine months has been in a base hospital at Walla Walla, Wash. He attended school at Minco prior to enlistment in the service and has a brother, CLAUDE WILLIAMS jr., in the service, stationed at Dutch Harbor. ---------------------------------------------- WILLIAMS, PFC. MAURICE E. and LLOYD E. WILLIAMS are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice C. Williams of Washita. Maurice volunteered for service Jan. 6, 1942. He attended Roach school until 1934. He is married and his wife now makes her home in Los Angeles, Calif. Lloyd attended Roach school until 1934 when he attended Washita school, where he graduated May 11, 1942. He entered the navy and attended service school at Great Lakes, Ill. ---------------------------------------------- WILLIS, LT. DANIEL M., USN, LT.JAMES T. WILLIS, USMC, and LT. COM. ENOS H. WILLIS, USMC, are the sons of Mrs. H.T. Willis of Anadarko and the late Henry Willis. Daniel is stationed at Dallas, Texas as a flight instructor in a training squadron naval air station. He graduated from Anadarko High School and attended Oklahoma A&M College three years. At the same time of his enlistment he was engaged in ranching in Oregon. He is married and has three daughters. He enlisted in 1941. James is stationed at Camp Lejeune, New River, N.C. He enlisted in January of 1942. He trained at the San Diego marine base and later served as a rifle instructor. He attended OCS at Quantico, Va., and was commissioned a Lt. March 11, 1943. Prior to his enlistment he was employed by the Bethleem Steel Company in New Mexico oil fields. He is a graduate of Anadarko High School and attended Oklahoma A&M. Enos is stationed at Tillamook, Ore., at the naval air station. He enlisted in the navy in 1940 and was on sea duty about two years in the Pacific and North Pacific waters. He is married, has one son, and was employed by Bethlehem Steel before enlstment. ---------------------------------------------- WILLIS, CPL. WINFRED has been in the armed service for the past four years and has been stationed at Camp Bowie, Texas. He is the son of Mrs. Alta Davis of Gracemont. He attended Whitebread and Gracemont schools. ---------------------------------------------- WILSON, GLEN W. entered the service April 16, 1942 in the signal corps. He was first stationed at Will Rogers Field in Oklahoma City. He has since been stationed at Louisville, La. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Wilson of Fort Cobb. He attended school at Washita until the 11th grade, when he entered the CCC. ---------------------------------------------- WILSON, PFC. JACK and PVT. CECIL R. WILSON are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Wilson of Anadarko. Jack graduated from Washita High School and farmed prior to entering the service Sep. 16, 1940. Cecil attended Anadarko school and was employed in Anadarko prior to entering the service July 3, 1942. He is stationed at Camp Rucker, Al. ---------------------------------------------- WINCHESTER, SGT. LAWRENCE, 25, is now stationed in the U.S. army air corps in Las Vegas, Nev. He enlisted May 6, 1941. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Winchester of Gracemont. He married May 17, 1942 the former, Fernia Saylors of Cogar, Ok. She is now living in Nevada. He graduated from Gracemont High School and attended Hill's Business College. He was employed at the AAA office in Anadarko. ---------------------------------------------- WINCHESTER, SM3C SHERRAL D., 20, U.S. Navy, entered the navy Dec. 23, 1942 and took his training at San Diego, Calif. where he also attended signal school. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Winchester of Cogar. He attended school at Grandview and graduated from Binger High School in 1942. ---------------------------------------------- Wingate, Walter William World War II TEC 5 US Army Birth: Oct. 14, 1923 Death: Sep. 16, 1976 Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Preceded in death by his wife Francis V Armstrong. VIRGIL C. is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C.R. Winter of Carnegie. He went into the service Jan. 25, 1943 and received training at Fort Devens, Mass., and Camp Gordon Johnson, Fl. His wife, the former Doreta Braden, is living near his station. ---------------------------------------------- WINTON, jr., PVT. CHARLES, 19, entered the service April 22, 1943 and has been stationed in Louisiana. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Winton and attended school at Oney. ---------------------------------------------- WITTE, CECIL RAY, 21, is the son of Mrs. Mary Witte of Anadarko. He attended school at St. Patrick's Mission before entering the navy in November of 1942. He is now stationed at Oakland, Calif. He was employed at the Anadarko Daily News as a stereotyper. ---------------------------------------------- WITTEN, HAROLD L., 20, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Witten. He graduated from Anadarko High School in 1941 and was employed at an aircraft factory on the west coast until Nov. 10, 1942 when he volunteered for service in the navy. He received his boot training at San Diego, Calif. and attended a special radio school there. He has been stationed in Australia and New Guinea since May of 1943. ---------------------------------------------- WOLGRAM, CPL. HARTWELL E. and PVT. R.B.JOHNSON of Anadarko have been killed in action in Italy, according to notices received this week by next of kin from the war department. ----------- Johnson, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. B.L. Johnson of Anadarko, was a paratrooper and died January 30. Wolgram, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Wolgram of Anadarko, was killed Jnuary 29. His wife is now operating a beauty shop in Verden. ------------ The paratrooper went overseas last August after his training at Fort Benning, Ga. Prior to that time he served as a corporal for two years at Fort Sill in Lawton, Ok. Before going into the service Johnson attended business college in Anadarko and was employed at the Famous Store. He attended school at Fletcher. Survivors include his parents, a brother, S2C WARREN JOHNSON, U.S. Navy, now stationed at Norman; and three sisters, Mrs. Henry Jacks of Texico, N.Mex.; Mrs. O.K. King of Fletcher, Ok.; and Mrs. Alfred Mahseet of Chickasha, Ok. ----------- Wolgram had been with the regular army since the mobilization of the National Guard here. He attended school in Anadarko and went overseas with the 45th Division. ---------------------------------------------- WOLGRAM, PVT. MELVIN C. is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Wolgram of Anadarko. Before his induction into the army on May 27, 1943, he was employed at Bauman's Grocery Store. He has been stationed at Camp Wallace, Texas and Fort Bliss, Texas. ---------------------------------------------- WOODALL, 3C ELVIN LEE, RDM, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Woodall of Andarko, volunteered Oct 9, 1943. He took his boot training at San Diego, Calif. His radarman training was obtained at Norfolk, Va. He is now stationed in the South Pacific area. Woodall attended Anadarko schools previous to volunteering. ---------------------------------------------- WOODALL, PVT. SEEBURN D., U.S. Army, entered the army Nov. 25, 1942 and was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L.M. Woodall of Anadarko. Before his service he was employed at the Anadarko Cotton Oil Mill. ---------------------------------------------- WOODWORTH, PVT. WILLARD O. is the son of Mrs. Ollie Pittman of Anadarko. He entered the service on Nov. 14, 1942 and has been stationed at Duncan Field in San Antonio, Texas. He attended the Anadarko schools and on entrance into the service was first stationed at Sheppard Field in Texas. ---------------------------------------------- WRIGHT, PVT. DAVID is the son of Mr. and Mr. Ed Wright of Aadarko. He is in the infantry and received his baic training at Camp Robinson, Ark., and is at the present time with the army in Germany. He entered the service in November of 1944. He graduated from Anadarko High School and was engaged in farming near Gracemont before entering the service.
