MELVIN J. entered the service Aug. 20, 1942 and completed his basic training at Camp Callon Calif. He was transferred from there to Camp Haan, Calif., and went to Norfolk, Va. for further training. He has been stationed at Camp Davis, N.C. with anti-aircraft. Before entering the service he made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Lusk of Anadarko and assisted in the farm work. ---------------------------------------------- TACKETT, PVT. WALTER JACKSON entered the service March 8, 1941 and was first stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, Ok. He has been stationed at San Luis Obispo, Calif. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Tackett of Fort Cobb. He attended school at Fort Cobb. Prior to entering the service he farmed near Fort Cobb. ---------------------------------------------- TAFT, FORREST, 41, entered WWII August 24 of this year when he enlisted with the Coast Guard. He is a veteran of WWI and served overseas. He is an ex-post commander of the Tallent-Gassaway Post No.1015 of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars. His wife, and their daughter, are making their home in Anadarko. ---------------------------------------------- TALLENT, PVT. DONALD M. entered the U.S. army May 30, 1945 and is in basic training at Camp Robinson, Ark. His brother, ALTUS D. TALLENT, entered the service June 25, 1945. They are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. M.M. Tallent of Fort Cobb. Donald attended school at Washita, Ok. and was engaged in farming when he entered the army. He was also a bus driver for the Washita school. ---------------------------------------------- TALLENT, SGT. TROY entered the service with the National Guard in the fall of 1940. He attended school in Anadarko and was formerly employed by the Anadarko Ice Company. SGT. ALPH TALLENT also entered the service with the National Guard when they mobilized. He is married and his wife now lives in Anadarko. He was formerly employed by the Stephenson-Browne Lumber Company. Both boys are now stationed with the 45th Division. ---------------------------------------------- TARPLEY, S-SGT. ALBERT MARION, 21, and STERLING J.R. TARPLEY, 19, are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. S.M. Tarpley of Anadarko. Sgt. Tarpley entered the service Dec. 1, 1942 was the first radio operator on a flying fortress and has been stationed at Lakeland, Fl. He attended school here and at Oklahoma A&M College at Stillwater, Ok. He was working in the Sesmo aircraft plant at Wichita, Kans. at the time of enlistment in the army. Petty Officer Tarpley entered the service Jan. 10, 1943 and has been stationd somewhere in the South Pacific. He attended school in Anadarko and was employed at the C.R. Anthony store before entering the service. ---------------------------------------------- TARVER, EDDIE, FLOYD TARVER, LOYD TARVER and CHARLES TARVER are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Tarver of Apache. Eddie is stationed in England as a gunner in the air corps. Charles has been stationed as a cook at Camp Roberts, Calif. The twins, Floyd and Loyd, by war department order, are now stationed together at Camp Carson, Colo., in the infantry. ---------------------------------------------- TATE, ALVIN is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Tate of Gracemont. He graduated from Burns Flat in 1939 and the following two years played professional baseball for the Salt Lake City 'Bees'. He had a contract to play for the Chicago Cubs during the 1942 season, but was called into service Oct. 14, 1941. He received his first training at Fort Sill in Lawton, Ok., then was transferred to Savannah, Ga. He left the United States sometime in April for duty in the Pacific war zone. He received a broken arm and was confined to the hospital for three months. ---------------------------------------------- TATE, PVT. LUTHER, 18, entered the army in 1945 and is now stationed at Camp Crowder, Mo. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Tate of Lawton, Ok. and the grandson of G.M. Cash of Fort Cobb. He attended school in Fort Cobb and Anadarko. ---------------------------------------------- TATE, S2C WINFRED W., U.S. Navy, 21, entered the U.S. Navy in November of 1942 and was stationed at San Diego, Calif. until January of 1943 when he was sent to the Norman naval base where he is now stationed. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Tate of Gracemont. He was married to Geneva Mauldin in June of 1942 at Gracemont. He attended school at Burns Flat, Ok. ---------------------------------------------- TAYLOR, CHARLES W., 18, entered the service Sep. 2, 1942. He is the son of Mrs. Winnie Jennings of Lexington, Ok. He is married and his wife is makng her home in Oklahoma City. ---------------------------------------------- TAYLOR, PFC. CONNIE MACK, 24, entered the service in October of 1943 and is a mechanic in the air corps. He has been in Africa. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. O.J. Taylor of Hydro. He attended school in Eakly where he graduated from high schoo. After graduation he went to Weatherford, Ok., where he was studying welding at the time he went into the service. ---------------------------------------------- TAYLOR, PVT. DANIEL S., 19, entered the service in September of 1944 and has been overseas since January of 1945. He is stationed with the army infantry in Hamburg, Germany. He has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart. He is the son of Mrs. Winnie Jennings of Anadarko and attended schools in Anadarko and Oklahoma City. He was employed in California previous to his army service. ---------------------------------------------- TAYLOR, PVT. EDSEL DANE, 19, entered the service Oct.17, 1944, receiving his basic training at Camp Robinson, Ark and is now stationed at Fort Ord, Calif. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. O.J.Taylor of Hydro. His wife and son reside at Eakly. He was engaged in farming at the time he entered the service. ---------------------------------------------- TAYLOR, PFC. PERSHING, 26, volunteered into the service March 1, 1941 and received his training at Abilene, Texas. He served with the 158th field artillery of the 45th Division in the Panama Canal Zone for 20 months. He transferred to the 207th field artillery and has been statoned at Camp Maxey, Texas. He is the son of J.L. Taylor of Anadarko. ---------------------------------------------- TEAGUE, S2C DALE, U.S. Coast Guard, 18, was inducted into the service Aug. 10, 1943. He received his boot training at Manhattan Beach training station. He has been stationed at Old Harbor coast guard station in Chatham. Mass. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar A. Teague of Carnegie. ---------------------------------------------- THACKER, J.C. United States Navy, 18, entered the Seabees in October of 1943 and has been stationed in California. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.C.Thacker of Anadarko. He attended school in Anadarko and was employed with the Ford Motor Company in Anadarko. ---------------------------------------------- THOMAS, SGT. GLENN HARLAN, U.S. Army Air Force and Petty Officer GORDON HOWARD THOMAS, U.S. Navy, are the sons of Mrs. Edith Wunderlich of Gracemont and have both been stationed in North Africa. Sgt. Thomas was born in Oklahoma City and graduated from high school there in 1926. He attended the Chicago Electrical Engineering School and was employed by the Arizona Edison Electric Company until he volunteered for service in the U.S. army air forcs on April 10, 1942. He is married, has a 12 year old son and his family makes their home in Arizona. He is a radio technician. Petty Officer Thomas graduated from Gracemont High School in 1931 and attended San Francisco, Calif., Junior College and Gompers Engineering School, graduating in June of 1939. He was employed by the United Engineering Company in San Francisco when he enlisted in the navy on March 21, 1942 as a mechanical draftsman in the Seabees. The men met in North Africa in June of 1943. ---------------------------------------------- THOMAS, LT. RAY C., CPL. MAYO THOMAS, S-SGT. JAMES B. THOMAS and SGT.CHARLIE REED, are the sons of former Gracemont residents, Mr. and Mrs. Claud Thomas of Alex, Ok. Lt. Thomas has been stationed at Camp Gruber, Ok. Cpl. Thomas at Camp Bowie, Texas. S-Sgt. Thomas at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas and Sgt. Reed at Fort Sill in Lawton Ok. ---------------------------------------------- THOMASON, PVT. CARL RAY was originally at the Field Artillery Replacement Training Center at Fort Sill in Lawton, Ok. Later he was sent to Camp Swift, Texas. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. T.R. Thomason of Hydro. ---------------------------------------------- THOMASON, SGT. JOHN GORDON 'Tommie', 27, and PFC. VINSON FRED THOMASON, 23 and PFC. RALPH L. THOMASON, 21, are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Thomason of Anadarko. Tommie is stationed with Headquarters Co. 610 in Camp Barkeley. Texas. His wife and daughter recently joined him there. Vinson is a former motor mechanic and is stationed in Fort Devin, Mass. The other brother is also stationed in Fort Devin. Two other brothers, GLEN and MURCER, are already discharged. ---------------------------------------------- THOMASON, jr., PVT. GUY E. enlisted on Oct. 19,1942 and has been stationed at Fort Logan, Colo. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. G.E Thomason of Anadarko. He graduated from Stecker High School in 1935. At the time of his enlistment he was working in the oil fields. ---------------------------------------------- THOMASSON, PVT. GERALD ROSS,19, entered the service May 20, 1943 and is now stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, Ok. He is the fourth son in the service. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Thomasson. He received his education in the Anadarko schools. ---------------------------------------------- THOMASSON, PhM2C OSCAR R., U.S. Navy, 17, entered the navy Oct. 20, 1942 and received his training in a general engineering school at San Diego, Calif. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Thomasson of Binger. He attended high school at Binger and was engaged in farming before entering the navy. ---------------------------------------------- THOMPSON, MM3C ADDISON P, 34, has been in the navy since 1943 and received his training at San Diego, Calif. He has been overseas in the Pacific. He is the husband of Mrs. Etheleen Thompson of Anadarko. He graduated from the Muskogee High School. ---------------------------------------------- THOMPSON, PVT. FRANCIS H., 21, joined the regular army with the mobiliztion of the National Guards and is now stationed with the 45th Division. He is the brother of Mrs. Lee Garrett of Gracemont. ---------------------------------------------- THOMPSON, HOWARD, 19, and ROBERT THOMPSON, 17, are two Blue Jacket sons of Mr. and Mrs. Ferris M. Thompson of Anadarko. Both attended Anadarko High School where their father is band and orchestra director. Howard entered the navy Nov. 10, 1942 and received his training at San Diego, Calif., finishing gunnery school at North Island, San Diego. He is now attending aviation radio school there and returned to his base Friday after a 15 day furlough with his parents. Robert entered the navy Jan. 6, 1943. He also took his training at San Diego, Calif., and was transferred to the south base at Norman, Ok. for instruction in the aviation mechanist mate school. ---------------------------------------------- THOMPSON, jr., PFC. J.D., 19, entered the army in Sep.18,1944 and has been overseas since February of 1945. He received his basic training at Camp Fannin, Texas and is stationed with the cavalry in the Philippines. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Thompson of Binger, where he attended school. ---------------------------------------------- THOMPSON, WILLIAM SPURGEON, 18, entered the service March 5, 1943 and received his training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. He is somewhere in the Atlantic. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. I.H. Thompson and was born in Binger where he attended school. ---------------------------------------------- THORNHILL, GLEN, U.S. Marine Corps, volunteered into the service in December of 1941. He has been stationed at San Diego, Calif. He is the son of Mrs. Cora Thornhill of Fort Cobb, where he attended school. ---------------------------------------------- THRECKELD, PFC. LAWRENCE V., 21, entered the service in 1943 and has been stationed in Orlando, Fl., in the air corps. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Threckeld of Fort Cobb and the brother of Mrs. C.C. Hill of Anadarko. He is married to the former Billy Kruper of Fort Cobb. She is making her home with her mother in the eastern part of Oklahoma. He attended school at Broxton. ---------------------------------------------- THYRE, CPL. LEONARD, 20, entered the service Feb. 11, 1942 and has been stationed at Camp Howze, Texas, He had had a year's training previously to his enlistment. He is the son of Mrs. Bonnie McCannond and attended Anadarko schools. He made his home in Anadarko. ---------------------------------------------- TIDWELL, SGT. J.C. is now stationed at Lowry Field in Denver, Colo. He enlisted in the air corps Aug. 12, 1940 and is a graduate of Binger High School. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Tidwell of Cogar, Ok. ---------------------------------------------- TIDWELL, JOE ELDRED, 18, enlisted in the navy Sep. 16, 1943 and has been stationed at the naval air station in North Island. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. M.F. Tidwell of Bakersfield, Calif, former residents of Oney. He was raised in the Oney community and attended school there. ---------------------------------------------- TOMMEY, CPL. J.H. and CPL GENE P. TOMMEY, are the sons of Mrs. Henry Metz of Gracemont. J.H. has been stationed at Will Rogers Field in Oklahoma City and Gene has been stationed at Camp Barkeley, Texas. They are both graduates of Gracemont High School. ---------------------------------------------- TOOMAN, PVT. VIRGIL E. volunteered into the service n Decembr of 1941 and is a mechanic in the army air corps. He was first stationed at Shepphard Field, Texas and then in California. He is now stationed at Meridian, Miss. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Tooman of Fort Cobb. ---------------------------------------- TOMPKINS, LT. COL. CHARLES E., formerly of Anadarko, received the bronze star medal 'for meritorious achivement in connection with military operations against the enemy.' Presentation was made by Maj. Gen. T.T. Burgin, commanding general of the Central Pacific base command. Col. Tompkins has previously been awarded the silver star medal, and during WWI received the French Croix De Guerre, a citation from the Second (regular army) division for 'gallantry in action,' and is authorized the French Fourragere as an individual decoration. He had lived in Anadarko for about 15 years as a sergeant in the 158th field artillery and was mobilized with the the men of the 45th Division in 1940. His wife, Eva Mae Tompkins, is from Anadarko, and she and their two sons, Ray and Charles E. III, now live in Oklahoma City. ---------------------------------------------- TORRES, CPL. DAVID A., joined the U.S. Army in 1939 at Fort Sill in Lawton, Ok. and is now stationed at Fort Ord, Calif. He was born in Lockart, Texas and is the son of Mrs. Minnie Torres of Gracemont. ---------------------------------------------- TORRES, PVT. HENRY, 20, entered the service o Nov. 13, 1942 and has been statoned at Camp Robinson, Ark. His brother, DAVID TORRES, is also in the U.S. Army. Henry is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fexis Torres of Gracemont and attended school in Whitebread. ---------------------------------------------- TOPAUM, REUBEN LARRETT was born 23-Mar-1923 in Carnegie, Caddo county, Ok. to John Cyrus Topaum Sr. and Margaret Geionty and died 03-Dec-2001 in Oklahoma City, Ok. Served with the 45th Infantry of Oklahoma and the 179th Infantry, 2nd Battalion, L Company during World War II. He was a squad leader and a sniper, receiving the Purple Heart with Oakleaf Cluster Medal, European Theater Badge, Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge and Good Conduct Medal. ---------------------------------------------- TRIPP, CPL. CHESTER was inducted into the service Oct. 6, 1942, and from Fort Sill in Lawton, Ok. was sent to Camp Gruber, Ok. for his basic training. He received further training at Fort Sam Houston, in San Antonio, Texas. In November of 1943 he sailed for North Africa and has been stationed in Italy. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Tripp of Lookeba. His wife is the former Verla Alexander of Hinton, and she makes her home with her mother. ---------------------------------------------- TROGDON, PVT. GLEN R., entered the service in 1944 in the army infantry, receiving his basic training at Fort Sam Houston, in San Antonio, Texas and Camp Wheeler, Ga. He was with the 9th army in Germany and has received three battle stars. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Trogdon of Anadarko. His wife is the former Fern Robinson. He attended school in Anadarko and Antondale. ---------------------------------------------- TRULL, PVT. WILLIARD entered the U.S. Army on Sep. 18, 1942 and has been stationed at Camp Crowder, Mo. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L.W. Trull of Oney. He is married and his wife and daughter are making their home in Fort Cobb. Prior to his service he was farming near Fort Cobb. ---------------------------------------------- TUCKER, CPL. BILL, 23, was inducted into the service in September of 1942 and received his basic training at Camp Atterbury, Ind. He was sent to Camp Claiborne, La., for advanced training and has been in North Africa since May of 1943 with an engineer regiment. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Tucker of Lookeba. He is married to the former Melba Salyers of Binger and his wife makes her home with her parents. He is a graduate of Lookeba High School and was an all star basketball player during high school. ---------------------------------------------- TURLEY, CPL. WALTER, 22, entered the service Aug. 20, 1942 and has been stationed somewhere in New Guinea. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Turley of Washita, Ok. His wife and baby are making their home with his parents. He farmed before entering the armed services. ---------------------------------------------- TURNER, CPL. BOYD EUGENE entered the service July 14, 1942 and is now stationed at Pittsburg, Pa. He attended school in Anadarko and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar J. Turner. ---------------------------------------------- TURNER, PVT. JAMES M., 18, was inducted at Anadarko, May 21, and was sent to Fort Sill in Lawton, Ok. He is the brother of CPL. BOYD TURNER who is in the service and now overseas. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. O.J. Turner, formerly of Anadarko, and now of San Diego, Calif. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. J.N. Larison and Mr. and Mrs. M.W. Turner, all of Washita, Ok. He attended schools in Anadarko before moving to Califoenia. ---------------------------------------------- TURNER, ROBERT, 31 and W.H. TURNER, jr., 23, are the sons of former Anadarko residents, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Turner of Tulsa, Ok. They are the grandsons of Mrs. W.T. Melton of Anadarko. Robert enlisted in April of 1942 and is sationed now at Leonard Camp, St. Louis, Mo. W.H. enlisted into the service in July of 1941 and is now stationed at Sioux Falls, S.D. Both boys attended school in Anadarko. ---------------------------------------------- TURNER, PVT. WALTER LEE, 21, enlisted in the army Dec. 17, 1942 and has been stationed in the cavalry at Fort George G Meade, Md. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C.A.
