Captain in the Union Army died Aug 1931 buried Bridgeport Cemetery The Hinton Record August 27, 1931 JOHN F. LOGAN DIED LAST NIGHT Capt. John F. Logan, well known citizen, died at the family home in Bridgeport early Friday morning after a lingering illness with the infirmities of age. Funeral services, which were conducted at the M.E. Church in Bridgeport, Saturday afternoon by Rev. George, assisted by Rev. Sullens, were attended by a large number of sorrowed relatives and friends. Members of the Eastern Star also conducted a short service at the church. Burial was made in Bridgeport cemetery with the beautiful and impressive Masonic service at the grave. A firing squad, consisting of World War veterans, under that auspices of the American Legion, paid the farewell tribute to the soldier dead at the close of the service. D.W. Cecil of Hinton, was the funeral director. Capt. Logan was a pioneer settler of Bridgeport, coming there at the opening, and had taken a keen interest in the upbuilding and progress of the community. He had made his home in and near Bridgeport for over thirty years and was beloved and estemed by the many who knew him. He was 87 years, 6 months and 12 days of age and is survived by his widow, two sons, one daughter, and other close relatives and a legion of friends. He was a veteran of the Civil War, and served in the Union army for several years, being attached to the cavalry, and saw considerable active service. Mr. Logan was a captain and it is reported that he was the youngest officer of that rank in the Union army.
