HENDRYX DIED HERE TUESDAY John Carl Hendryx died at his home, 702 West Virginia avenue, Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1926, aged 84 years, 2 months and 5 days. Mr. Hendryx had been in poor health for some time. He is survived by his wife. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Rees-Jones of the Presbyterian church, were held at the home this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. The remains were laid to rest in the Anadarko cemetery. The services at the grave were in charge of the Masons. Capt. Hendryx, as he was known to his many friends, came to Caddo county at the opening. He was the first deputy county clerk and served under Dyke Ballinger, who was appointed county clerk until the first election in this county was held in 1902. He then bought a farm south of Anadarko, where he resided until he retired and bought residence property here. Mr. Hendryx was a man who made many friends and held them. He was interested in pure bred cattle and chickens. His farming venture in this county was successful from every standpoint. John Carl Hendryx was born Sept. 25, 1842 in Illinois. He was married to Nancy Elizabeth Talley Dec. 17, 1872. He moved from Illinois to Iowa where he lived until he came to Oklahoma in 1901. Mr. Hendryx served during the period of the Civil War, enlisting in company D, 33rd Infantry, in the spring of 1862. He was afterward commissioned a captain and served during the remainder of the war with that rank. Before coming to Anadarko he was a postmaster and had served some time in the revenue service. After coming to Anadarko he served for one term as deputy county clerk and later as a member of the city council. He was admitted to practice law in Oklahoma.
