Caddo Co. Oklahoma - Civil War ================================================= Gunter, Green Union Army born 15 jul 1847 died 15 sep 1918 buried in the Bridgeport Cemetery The Hinton Record September 26, 1918 Green Gunter was born in Patrick county, Va., July 15, 1847, died at his residence near Lookeba, Sunday, Sept. 15, 1918, age 71 years and 2 months. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the Union army and served 18 months, receiving an honorable discharge at Camp Nelson, Ky. He went to North Carolina and was united in marriage with Mary Roberson in Stokes county. To this union were born 16 children, three of whom preceeded him to the better land. In 1900 he came to Oklahoma and filed on a claim, his family joining him later. He was in poor health for a number of years. When the end came he slept(sic) away so quietly that those who watched over him during his last illness hardly knew he had gone. He united with the Primative Baptist church in 1898 at Surry county, N.C. He was faithful to his vows and obligations. His funeral was preached at the Presbyterian church in Bridgeport by Revs. Graham and Neil, after which the body was taken to the cemetery where the old soldiers conducted the ceremony at his graveside, which was very appropriate. His body was laid to rest tenderly and with the hope of meeting him face to face in the resurrection. The beloved wife and mother with the 13 children and a host of friends and relatives mourn his loss.
