According to documents he enrolled at Leavenworth, Kansas on 14-Dec-1861 in Co. B, 2nd Reg. Colo. Cav. His rank was private. He was honorably discharged on 19-Dec-1864. In a document dated 15-Oct-1889, 'He contracted smallpox and from improper care and attendance, he took a cold, causing a relapse which settled in his left leg. About a year later his leg had to be amputated'. The same document states that he 'was treated by a rebel surgeon in a private house'. He married 08-Jul-1893 in Udall, Kansas - Elizabeth J. (McCubbin) Cromwell, Bemis. They had no children. Submitted by Sandy Miller
