The Anadarko Tribune March 14, 1918 Local Items Column Earl Hearne, brother of Mrs. Ralph Harrison of this city, as will be recalled by his many friends here, enlisted in the navy well back in last year. He is here, as he has been for the last several weeks, on an assignment to pursue a course of study which, if successful, will permit his entry into the United States naval academy at Annapolis, Md., as a cadet for the full naval course of instruction. He tells us that he has seven text books to digest in this course of preparation for his examination, and that he has until the 16th of April to make ready. Mr. Hearne is a very pleasant appearing sailor. The Tribune wishes for him complete success. It is a great goal for which he is striving. He perhaps cannot see it now in so full perspective as he will after he wins. A hundred of the appointments, Mr. Hearne informs us, were made at the time he received his. The Anadarko Tribune April 25, 1918 Short Locals Column Earl Hearne of the navy, who had been back here from New London, Conn., for the last several months, studying with a view to taking the examination for admission for a cadetship n the naval academy at Annapolis, presented himself at Lawton for examination Monday of this week, the process being concluded Thursday afternoon. He came back here Thursday evening, and was taken by his sister, Mrs. Ralph Harrison, to Chickasha, Friday morning, where he took the train back to New London. The result of Earl's examination will not be known for some little time, but his friends will hope it will be successful. Mrs. Harrison accompanied her brother to Lawton, remaining there and returning here with him.
