DC tow
truck driver
dies in crash
Metro wreckers paid tribute Saturday, Feb. 2 to one of their own that was killed
in a one-vehicle rollover accident in Texas. At approximately 7:30 a.m. Tuesday,
Jan. 29, Michael Duke Browning, Jr, 31, Del City, was driving a 2011 Kenworth
rollback wrecker southbound on Hwy 277 during a rainstorm. On Saturday,
Browning’s funeral was held and metro wreckers came together for a convoy down
NE 23rd Street.
A state police spokesperson said Browning lost control of the vehicle due to driving too fast and water on the roadway just north of Stamford. The vehicle then rolled over and ended up in a field on the west side of the roadway. Browning was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle and later died at a local hospital.
Bobby Kolar of B&B Auto Parts in Nicoma Park knew Browning well. He said Browning had worked for him for the last six years and was picking up a vehicle to bring back to Oklahoma when he was killed. “He was a good guy and would always help anyone out,” Kolar said. Browning leaves behind a wife and his dogs, which were like his children.
