Caddo County - Newspapers Submitted by: Sandy Miller ====================================================================== Anadarko Democrat October 05, 1904 Liberty Items Again the relentless foe Death visited our community, this time at the home of MR. SHERMAN ACERS (msp), taking from it the head of the family, Mr. Acers. This is a very sad death, as Mr. Acers was a young man in the prime of manhood. About five weeks ago he was stricken with typhoid fever and in spite of the brave fight he made for life and the watchful care of his wife and relatives and aid of doctors, he had to give up the battle at one o'clock last Friday and passed peacefully into the great beyond from whence no traveler ever returns. After a brief service at the grave Saturday he was laid to rest in the silent tomb. He leaves to mourn his loss a grief stricken wife, father and mother, and several sisters and brothers. The wife and relatives have our sympathy in this their deep sorrow. ================================================== October 13, 1904 Obituary JAMES SHERMAN AKER, son of MR. AND MRS. J.J. AKER, was born Aug. 20, 1879 at Humansville, Polk county, Mo., died Sept. 30, 1904 at Dutton, Okla. He was married to MISS NANNIE E. WOOD June 22, 1901. The devoted wife, mother, father, two brothers and four sisters are left to mourn his death. He had been ill about three weeks of typhoid fever when the death angel released him from his suffering. He was a young man of kind and loving disposition and leave many friends who sincerely sympathize with the relatives in their bereavement. ================================================== October 20, 1904 Supplement to the Democrat Looking For Her Son The man who was so horribly mangled and killed by a Rock Island train a week ago Tuesday morning might have been CARL McDONALD. At least his mother MRS. H.E. SHAY, thinks so and she has come to Wichita from Acme, Arizona to look into the case. Mrs. Shay arrived in Wichita yesterday, and said that her son left Acme two months ago and she had not heard from him since. He was 18 years old and portions of the man's body killed here last week resembled him. She will make as close an investigation as possible, but it is probably that she will never know the truth unless her son is found later for the body was too horribly mangled for recognition. ================================================== October 27, 1904 Liberty MR. WOOD, father of MRS. SHERMAN AKERS, died last Saturday and was buried Sunday. Mr. Wood came here from Kansas a few weeks ago to attend his son-in-law Sherman Akers in his sickness and about a week ago was taken with pneumonia and soon passed away. This makes four new graves in so many weeks. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ALTA JOSEPHINE SLATER was born at Creighton, Nebraska Sept. 20, 1800(1890) and died Oct. 21, 1904, age 14 years 1 mo and 1 day. Alta was a favorite of the whole family. She was a very bright girl though afflicted by being devoid of hearing and of speeh. This affliction seemed to endear her to the whole family and her taking away is a great sorrow to the whole family. Alta had attended the Guthrie school two terms and when she returned home in June last it was seen she was not well and all that human hands could do was done to alleviate her suffering and arrest that dread disease consumption that was setting in but the decree was passed and the summons came for the spirit to return to the One that gave it. She leaves to mourn her departure a father, mother, three brothers and six sisters. ====================================================
