Caddo County - Newspapers Submitted by: Sandy Miller ====================================================================== Anadarko Democrat November 24, 1904 DEATHS MRS. J.B. BROWNBACK, who has been very ill for some time, died at an early hour Wednesday morning, November 16th. Funeral services will be held Friday morning. The Democrat extends sincere sympathy ot the bereaved relatives. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MADGE ALLYN, the little daughter of MR. AND MRS. HOMER A. ARENDS, died last night, Nov. 18, after a weeks illness, age 11 months and 27 days. The funeral services were held at the M.E. church at two o'clock this afternoon under the auspices of the Red Men order. The funeral sermon was delivered by the pastor, REV. H.O. MOORE. After the impressive ceremonies at the church, the remains were laid to rest in the city cemetery. Thus another "little baby, far too pure for earth, it may be," has gone to dwell with One who said, "suffer little children to come unto me." The bereaved parents have the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- LAST SAD RITES The funeral services of the late MRS. J.B. BROWNBACK were held at the family residence at 10 o'clock this morning; and were conducted by REV. TEIS, pastor of the Presbyterian church. The services were very impressive, all who were present being greatly affected as this death was a particularly sad one. Mrs. Brownback had lived among us since the early days of Anadarko and was respected and loved by all who knew her. She was of a quiet, unassuming disposition and during her long illness, exhibted rare qualities of patient endurance. The heartfelt sympathy of the entire community goes out to the husband who is bereft of a companion and to the children, who though all but two have homes of their own, have not yet outgrown their need of a mother's love and tender sympathy. By the death of this loving, patient woman, a void is created in the home and in the hearts of her family, which can never be filled. Those whose hearts ache when they look back to the time "when mother died" and those whose hearts give a frightened throb when the thought comes to them that they, also, will one day be called upon to give mother up, alone can realize what these days of sorrow mean to the Brownback family. Deceased was born in Terre Haute, Ind. Aug. 1, 1845 and died at her home in Anadarko Wednesday morning, Nov. 16, 1904. She was a model wife and mother and led an exemplary christian life, the remembrance of which is indescribably precious to those who are left to mourn her loss. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to our friends and neighbors for their many kind acts and words of sympathy during our great sorrow, the illness and death of our beloved wife and mother, MRS. NANCY BROWNBACK. The help and consolation extended to us in our time of sorrow, will ever be cherished by us as the one ray of light in a time of sadness and gloom. May all whose tender sympathy helped us to bear our great sorrow, also find faithful friends in their time of need. Signed J.B. Brownback and Family ----------------------------------------------------------------------- MR. BROWNBACK DANGEROUSLY ILL MR. J.B. BROWNBACK is reported dangerously ill with Bright's disease. Mr. Brownback has been in ill health the greater part of the fall, but has been in a critical condition during the past three days being unable to attend the funeral of his wife, who was buried yesterday. The members of the family have our sincere sympathy in this their time of trouble. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- J.B. BROWNBACK died at his home in this city at 12 o'clock Saturday night, Nov. 19, aged 62 years. Mr. Brownback's health had been failing for some time, but he had been seriously ill only since the death of his wife, which occured at an early hour Wednesday morning, Nov. 16. During his wife's illness, Mr. Brownback expressed a wish that in case of his wife's death, he might soon follow her, as he felt that life without the companionship of the one who had shared his joys and sorrows for so many years, would be unbearable. In thirty six hours after his wife's body was laid in its last resting place, this faithful, broken heart ceased to beat, and today their bodies are resting side by side, and the family, so sadly bereft, mourns the loss of both father and mother within four days. Deceased was born near Centerville, Ohio, in 1842. He was a kind and loving father, an honest, upright, exemplary citizen, and by his death Anadarko loses one of her most respected citizens. Mr. Brownback was a member of the city council from the first ward, also a prominent member of the G.A.R., the A.O.U.W., and the M.W.A. orders. The funeral services which were conducted by REV. TEIS, under the auspices of the G.A.R. were held at the family residence at 10:30 this morning after which the remains were followed to their last resting place in the city cemetery by the members of the city council, the fire department, the various lodges of which deceased was a member, and a large concourse of sorrowing friends and neighbors. The Democrat joins the entire community in an offer of heartfelt sympathy for the bereaved family, whose cup of sorrow is full to the brim. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- CARD OF THANKS Death has again entered our home and taken away our dearly beloved father, J.B. Brownback, and though our hearts are lonely and sad and our burden of grief seems almost more than we can bear, still in the midst of our grief comes the remembrance of those kind friends and neighbors whose unfailing kindness and sympathy cheered us in our darkest hours, and still cheers us in our lonliness. We cannot find words to express our deep appreciation and gratitude for such friendship which has been such a solace to us. Signed The children of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Brownback ------------------------------------------------------------------------ RESOLUTIONS OF RESPECT WHEREAS it has pleased the Divine Ruler of the Universe to remove from our midst our beloved brother, JOHN BROWNBACK and WHEREAS by such removal his family has met with a irreparable loss, and the city has lost one of its most respected citizens and this body, an honorable member.
