We are located in the richest valley of the southwest. The beautiful Washita winds its length between hills and through plains making fertile all the land it adorns. Here it is possible to raise abundance of everything -- corn, wheat, cotton, fruit -- and each product seems to be especially favored. Our real estate men tell us that there is greater competition here on farm loans than in any of the adjoining counties. Anadarko is not yet three years old, and is now the sixth city in population in the territory. It has good railroad facilities and in a few months will have an additional road. We have three national banks, all thriving. We have some of the best hotels in the territory. We have several elevators, cotton gins and we believe one of the best flour mills in the territory. We have a $50,000 ice plant that is a credit to any town. Our business houses are, many of them, of the most substantial kind being constructed of brick. Today contracts have been let for nine new brick buildings, and others will follow. We have a $15,000 school building in course of erection. Our people with patriotic earnestness voted $30,000 bonds for sewers and electric lights. A $40,000 water works system will be in at once and a court house to cost $30,000 will be erected. We have a Government Indian School that will accommodate 500 pupils and four denominational schools. During the last three years our city schools have been conducted in rented buildings of poorest quality. The schools, notwithstanding this drawback, have been well graded and discipline has been excellent. A twelve year course articulating with the territorial institutuions has been established. The Commercial Club, established when Anadarko became a city has done much to push things along. It has for its members some of the best business men of the city, and they are determined to progress. The newspaper business is represented by four concerns. The Times, The Tribune, Life, and the Daily and Weekly Democrat. There are three brick yards which furnish brick as good as any in the territory. Businesses of all kinds is on the increase and we can assure all who may be readers of this article that if you are not already property owners here you will do well by investing. One of the immediate needs of the city is an oil mill and a paper factory. The future of the city is assured. We celebrate the opening of Anadarko August 5 and 6. Everybody welcome. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Obituary SADIE RICE was born Dec. 22th 1868 in Scott Co. Ind.
