September 2, 1982

Services for George William COFFMAN of Checotah were held Wednesday, Sept. 1, at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in Checotah with the Rev. Chester Ward officiating. Interment was in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Checotah under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home. Mr. COFFMAN was born Dec. 19, 1917, in Comanche. He died at a Muskogee hospital on Monday, Aug. 30, at the age of 64. Survivors include the wife, Jean, of the home; one son, Richard C.; three daughters, Linda, Christine and Belinda; two brothers, Broadus and Ralph; and six grandchildren.

Services for Jennie DILLIS of Muldrow were held Saturday, Aug. 28, at 2 p.m. in the Belfonte Church with the Rev. Martin Cochran officiating. Burial followed in the Belfonte Cemetery under the direction of Wheeler Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mrs. DILLIS was born to John and Sallisaw EAGLE on Jan. 14, 1903, in Sequoyah County. She died at her home on Thursday, Aug. 26, at the age of 79. Survivors include three daughters, Maggie Jean, Lillian and Marybelle; one son, McKinley; one brother, Jim; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services for Mrs. Lucy GLASS JOHNSON of Sallisaw were held Monday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m. in the Agent Chapel with the Rev. Hugh Harris officiating. Burial was in the Sallisaw City Cemetery under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home. Mrs. JOHNSON was born to Sut GLASS and Ester PETTIT GLASS on April 9, 1914, in Bunch. She died in Sallisaw on Friday, Aug. 27, at the age of 68. Mrs. JOHNSON and her husband, James Samuel JOHNSON, were married June 21, 1931, in Stilwell. He survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Eilene, Grace, and Margaret, nine sons, George, Amos, David, James S. Sr., Charlie, James, Everett, Jesse, and Bill; three sisters, Elsie, Eliza and Edith; four brothers, Skeen, Rainwater, Sam, and Henry; 30 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services for William Herbert "Hub" HOPE of Muldrow were held Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 10 a.m. in the Muldrow Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Kenneth Linn and the Rev. Ray Hood officiating. Burial was in the Muldrow Memory Garden Cemetery under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home. Mr. HOPE was born to Robert HOPE and Amanda Elizabeth MONTGOMERY HOPE on March 28, 1908, in Muldrow. He died at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, Ark., on Monday, Sept. 6, at the age of 74. Mr. HOPE and his wife, the former Billie Frances JACOBS, were married March 17, 1934, in Fort Smith. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Frances Elizabeth; one son, Robert John; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Josephine.

Services for Raymond Willard MARTIN of Sallisaw are being held Thursday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m. at the Wheeler Chapel with the Rev. Larry Pritchett officiating. Burial follows in the Peters Cemetery, east of Sallisaw, under the direction of the Wheeler Funeral Home. Mr. MARTIN was born to Thomas MARTIN and Peggy CHUCULATE MARTIN on Nov. 28, 1922, in Sequoyah County. He died at the Muskogee Veteran's Administration Hospital on Monday, Sept. 6, at the age of 59. Survivors include one son, Edmund Wayne, and one brother, Perry.

Services for James Rufus McCLURE of Sallisaw were held Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 2 p.m. in the First Assembly of God Church in Sallisaw with the Rev. Douglas Jernigan officiating. Burial was in the Sallisaw City Cemetery under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home. Mr. McCLURE was born to George McClure and Judy POWERS McCLURE on Dec. 28, 1908, in Danvillie, Ark., at the age of 73. Mr. McCLURE and his wife, the former Myrtle ROSS, were married Jan. 8, 1927, in Sallisaw. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Judy, Mildred and Margaret; two sons, Guy and James; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Mrs. Jewel.

Services for Billie Lee O'NEAL of Roland are being held Thursday, Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church in Muldrow with the Rev. Jim Smith and the Rev. Andy O'Neal officiating. Burial is in the Liberty Cemetery, northeast of Muldrow, under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mrs. O'NEAL was born to Samuel Lee STAMPS and Bessie Mae BEARCE STAMPS on May 28, 1931, in Muldrow. She died at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, Ark., on Tuesday, Sept. 7, at the age of 51. Mrs. O'NEAL and her husband, Magellan O'NEAL, were married Jan. 24, 1948, in Fort Smith. He survives. Other survivors include four daughters, Helen, Donna, Patricia and Linda; one son, Lee Roy; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Edna Mae, Mrs. Lew, and Mrs. Lorene; and six brothers, Herman, Donald, Leon, Ted, Tommy D., and Fred.

Graveside services for Woodrow Wilson RIDER of Oklahoma City were held Saturday, Sept. 4, at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Cemetery with the Rev. Eldridge L. Miller officiating. Burial was under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mr. RIDER was born to Austin Walter RIDER and Charlotte CORRELL RIDER on Nov. 22, 1912, in the McKey community. He died at San Diego, Calif., on Aug. 14 at the age of 69. Survivors include one daughter, Sharon; three grandchildren; three sisters, Elsie, Marie, and Ann; and one brother, Jack.

Services for Bobby Eugene ROGERS of Sallisaw will be held Saturday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. in the Akins Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Monroe Lowrimore officiating. Burial will follow in the Akins Cemetery under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home. Mr. ROGERS was born to Bobby Eugene ROGERS Sr. and Wanda Marie HERITAGE ROGERS on Nov. 11, 1954, in Buckeye, Ariz. He died in Van Buren, Ark., on Monday, Sept. 6, at the age of 27. Survivors include the mother and step-father, Wanda and Wade WILSON; the father and step-mother, Bobby and Madeline ROGERS; two sisters, Rebecca Fern, and Wilma Marie; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Ms. Perry L. HERITAGE; and the paternal grandmother, Ora ROGERS.

Services for Ollie Mae FOLSOM of Muldrow were held Friday, Sept. 10, at 2 p.m. at the Muldrow Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Jimmy Purcell and the Rev. Bob Winton officiating. Burial followed in the Blackjack Cemetery under the direction of the Wheeler Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mrs. FOLSOM was born to Tom OGDON and Ida Mae DAWS OGDON on Oct. 1, 1902, in Long, Indian Territory. She died at Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw on Wednesday, Sept. 8, at the age of 79. Survivors include the husband Emmett of the home; three daughters, Nelma, Bernice and Colleen; two sons, Ray Douglas and E.W.; one sister, Neta; five brothers, Callas, Ernest, Orval, Noah and Alford; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services for John H. MORGAN of LaJunta, Colo., were held Friday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m. in the Peacock Frye Almont Memorial Chapel in LaJunta with the Rev. Lynn Lamb officiating. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery in LaJunta under the direction of Peacock Frye Almont Inc. Mr. MORGAN was born to Andy MORGAN and Alice BARKER MORGAN on Sept. 5, 1923, in Bixby. He died at a Denver, Colo., hospital on Wednesday, Sept. 8, at the age of 59. He and his wife, the former Muriel WHITE, were married April 27, 1946, in Fort Smith, Ark. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, John, David and Ron; two daughters, Janet and Helen; three brothers, Floyd, Junior, and Don; four sisters, Lois, Delcie and Claris, and Marie; and five grandchildren

Services for Virgil Lee BENOIT of Sallisaw formerly of Roland were held Friday, Sept. 17, at 10:30 a.m. in the Wheeler Chapel with the Rev. Don Lehman officiating. Burial followed in the Dora Cemetery in Dora, Ark., under the direction of the Wheeler Fuenral Home in Sallisaw. Mr. BENOIT was born to Lib BENOIT and Mary McINTYRE BENOIT on June 11, 1899, in Van Buren, Ark. He died at Sequoyah Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the age of 83. Survivors include the wife Florence of the home, two daughters, Josie and Kathleen; one son, Virgil Jr.; one sister, Annie; 15 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.

Services for James Hobert CALHOUN of Sallisaw were held Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 10 a.m. in the First Assembly of God Church in Sallisaw with the Rev. Charles Rozell officiating. Burial was in the Sallisaw City Cemetery under the direction of the Wheeler Funeral Home. Mr. CALHOUN was born Dec. 17, 1926, to Evert B. CALHOUN Sr. and Minerva Abigail JACKSON CALHOUN in Sallisaw. He died at Sequoyah Memorial Hospital on Saturday, Sept. 11, at the age of 55. Survivors include the wife Bobbie, of the home; three daughters, Bridgett Ann, Sandra Lynn, and Rhonda Kay; one son, Terry Dee; the father, Everet B. CALHOUN Sr.; three sisters, Eula, Wilma and Dorothy; five brothers, Evert B. Jr., Jay, Thorval, Ralph, and Joe; and four grandchildren. Terry, Lorie, James and Jamie.

Graveside services for Charles Obie GLOVER of Sallisaw were held Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sallisaw City Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Harrison officiating. Interment was under the direction of the Wheeler Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mr. GLOVER was born Aug. 10, 1898, in Mount Ida, Ark. He died at Oklahoma City on Sunday, Sept. 12, at the age of 84. Survivors include two daughters, Betty and Carlene; two sisters, Dessie and Thelma; and one granddaughter, Carla TUCKER.

Services for Delbert Neal JOHNSON of San Bernadino, Calif., formerly of Muldrow, were held Monday, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m. in the Agent Chapel in Muldrow with the Rev. Bob Gasaway officiating. Burial followed in the Redland Cemetery, southwest of Muldrow, under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mr. JOHNSON was born to David Lawrence JOHNSON and Marandia Frances JORDAN JOHNSON on April 11, 1921, in the Redland community. He died on Thursday, Sept. 9, at the age of 61. Mr. JOHNSON and his wife, the former Margaret Lucilel GOUCHER, were married April 6, 1979, in Riverside, Calif. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Ralph, Paul and Roy; three grandchildren; the mother, Marandia JOHNSON; and one sister, Virginia.

Services for Ikie Ray MICHAEL of Muldrow were held Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m. in the Wheeler Chapel in Sallisaw with the Rev. Orville Knight officiating. Burial followed in the Sallisaw City Cemetery under the direction of the Wheeler Funeral Home. Mr. MICHAEL was born to Thomas MICHAEL and Grace MICHAEL on June 19, 1922, in Seminole. He died at the Muskogee Veterans' Administration Hospital on Sunday, Sept. 12, at the age of 60. He and his wife, the former Ruby WILCOX, were married July 10, 1964, in Muldrow. She survives. Other survivors include two brothers, James and Paul.

Services for Ike Franklin MATTINGLY of Sallisaw were held Friday, Sept. 2, at 10 a.m. in the Akins Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Monroe Lowrimore officiating. Burial was in the Akins Cemetery under the direction of the Wheeler Funeral Home. Mr. MATTINGLY was born to Alec MATTINGLY and Lue Ida SEATON MATTINGLY on July 26, 1903, in Sequoyah County. He died in the Vian Nursing Home on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at the age of 79. Survivors include the wife, Alpha, of Sallisaw; 11 stepdaughters, Bess, Rosa, Alene, Jeanette, Inez, Callie, Loreda, Charlene, Lenora, Bess and Donnie; 11 step-sons, George, Bill, Ray, Fay, Jack, Jesse, Nelson, Thomas, Foreman, and Raymond; and a greeat number of stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services for Opal A. O'DONNELL of Sacramento, Calif., formerly of Sallisaw were held at the Evangelistic Free Church in Oroville, Calif., on Friday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m. Interment was in the Rolling Hills Cemetery in Richmond, Calif., next to her husband. Mrs. O'DONNELL was born in 1912 to W.G. "Dok" ROBERTS and Vivian Oma ROBERTS in Sallisaw. She died in Sacramento, Calif., on Wednesday, Sept. 22, at the age of 70. Survivors include three daughters, Billie, June, and Kathryn; two brothers, Curtis and Barnes D.; three sisters, Marie, Doris and Callie; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services for Dewey RICHARDSON of Vian were held Friday, Sept. 24, at 1 p.m. in the Long Cemetery under the direction of the Wheeler Funeral Home of Sallsiaw. Mr. RICHARDSON was born to Ing RICHARDSON and Sally SCRIBNER RICHARDSON on Oct. 27, 1898, in Oklahoma. He died at the Vian Nursing Home on Thursday, Sept. 23, at the age of 83. Survivors include an aunt Nettie and seveal nieces and nephews.

Services for Mrs. Dimple R.D. CHERRY of Pocola were held Monday, Sept. 27, at 2 p.m. in the Agent Chapel in Muldrow with the Rev. C.H. Ramey officiating. Burial followed in the Redland cemetery, seven miles southwest of Muldrow, under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Mrs. CHERRY was born to Alfred LOLLIS and Maud JORDAN LOLLIS on March 15, 1920, in Redland. She died at her home on Friday, Sept. 24, at hte age of 62. Mrs. CHERRY and her husband, Loyd CHERRY were married in Fort Smith, Ark., on Jan. 10, 1948. He survives. Other survivors include five daughters, Mary, Alma, Jane, Janice, and Debbie; five sons, Loyd Jr., Jimmy, Ronnie, Randel and Paul; one sister, Margie; one brother, Charles; two half-brothers, M.T. and Herschel; four half-sisters, Hazel, Willie Joe, Emma Ruth and Jean; the step-mother, Ethel LOLLIS; one aunt, Bessie; and 20 grandchildren.

Services for Mrs. Mattie May COLEMAN of Vian were held Tuesday, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m. in the Vian Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Shade officiating. Interment followed in the Roselawn Cemetery in Vian under the direction of the Agnet Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Mrs. COLEMAN was born to Michael WILEY and Virginia JACKSON WILEY on April 25, 1902, in Lexington, Miss. She died in Fort Smith, Ark., on Thursday, Sept. 23, at the age of 80. Mrs. COLEMAN and her husband, Nathan COLEMAN, were married Sept. 22, 1922, in St. Paul Minn. He survives. Other Survivors include one son, Nathan Jr.; two brothers, Michael, and Austin; one sister, Rosana; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services for Miss Debra Jo (Debbie) SPRINGWATER of Sallisaw were held Thursday, Sept. 23, at 2 p.m. in the Gans Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Joe Fowler officiating. Burial was in the Gans City Cemetery under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Miss SPRINGWATER was born to Lawrence D. SPRINGWATER and Katie Ruth ROGERS SPRINGWATER on March 28, 1959, in Sallisaw. She died in Fort Smith, Ark., on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at the age of 23. Survivors include the parents, L.D. and Katie SPRINGWATER of the home; four sisters, Peggy, Carolyn, Pansy, and Janice; and five brothers, Cletus, Randy, Gary, Teddy, and Larry.
