July 4, 1985

Services for Damon Joe BROWN, 42, of Kansas City, Kan., formerly of Muldrow, are being held Friday, July 5, at 2 p.m. in the Agent Chapel in Muldrow with the Rev. Carthel Ramey officiating. Mr. BROWN died in Kansas City Sunday, June 30, 1985. He was born Dec. 16, 1942, in Muldrow to Roy E. BROWN and Ruby BROWN. He and his wife, the former Marchia TYSON, were married Nov. 7, 1964, in Kansas City. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Dennis and Damian; one daughter, Stacey; the mother, Ruby BROWN; one brother, Leroy; four sisters, Bernice and Nina, Virginia and Patsy. Burial, in the Lee's Chapel Cemetery, is under the direction of Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw.

Services for George Woodrow "Woody" FRASIER, 72, of Sallisaw were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, at the Agent Chapel with the Rev. Peston Collins officiating. Mr. FRASIER was born to George Washington FRASIER and Margaret TAYLOR FRASIER on Feb. 3, 1913, in the Maple Community. He died in Sallisaw on Monday, July 1, 1985. He and his wife, the former Ora Irene YOUNG were married in Greenwood, Ark., Dec. 8, 1949. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Patricia Ann; two sisters, Vera and Lela; two brothers, Leonard and Vernie; two half-sisters, Myrtle and Mary; and two grandchildren.

Orrin Dale HENNING, 65, of Sallisaw died Tuesday, July 2, 1985, in Muskogee. Services are scheduled for Friday, July 5, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Marble City with the Rev. Elbert Taylor and the Rev. Monroe Reid officiating. Burial follows in the Dwight Mission cemetery under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. He and his wife, Gertrude, were married Nov. 10, 1976, in Marble City. She preceded her husband in death. Survivors include two sons, Robert Dale and Charles Daniel; two daughters, Rita and Annette; two brothers, Grover and Byron; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services for Elsie Mae GRANT GIRTY, 72, of Sallisaw were held Wednesday, July 3, at 2 p.m. in the Agent Chapel in Sallisaw with the Rev. Billy Ray Jackson officiating. Burial followed in the Sallisaw City Cemetery under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home. Mrs. GIRTY died Sunday, June 30, 1985, in Sallisaw. She was born April 12, 1913, to Harry and Pearl BILDERBACK in Loveland. A homemaker, Mrs. GIRTY and Claud GRANT, were married Feb. 2, 1935, in Lawton. He preceded her in death on Oct. 14, 1975. She married Charley GIRTY, on July 24, 1975, at Pin Hook Corner. He survives. Other survivors include four daughters, Elois, Eva, Joann and Ellen; one son, E.O.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services for Allen Ludwell BAGLEY, 77, of Muldrow are being held Thursday, July 11, at 10 a.m. in the Muldrow First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Ray Hood and the Rev. David Rhoads officiating. Burial follows in the Cottonwood Cemetery, southeast of Muldrow, under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mr. BAGLEY was born to Samuel E. BAGLEY and Ada CROW BAGLEY on Jan. 8, 1908, in Muskogee County. He died Tuesday, July 9, 1985, in Fort Smith, Ark. He and his wife, Stella Naomi BAGLEY were married Dec. 13, 1925, in the Round Mountain Community. She survives. Other survivors include seven daughters, Edith, Wilma, Naomi, Helen, Loretta, Annetta and Jeanice; two sons, Allen Jr. and Harold; two brothers, Hubert and Floyd; one sister, Audra; 21 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services for Margie Marie CLARK, 64, of Sallisaw were held Monday, July 8, at 8 p.m. at the Way of the Cross Freewill Baptist Church. The Rev. Jerry Copeland led the services. Mrs. CLARK died Monday, July 8, 1985, at a Fort Smith, Ark., hospital. She was born March 30,1 921, to Henry LUCAS and Stella THRELKILL LUCAS in Pushmataha County. Survivors include six daughters, Betty Faye, Ollie E. and Patricia Ann, Ruth A., Wilma G. and Delores J.; four sons, Melvin L., Robert P., and Richard H. and Michael R.; one sister, Nellie; two brothers, Bud, and John; and several grandchildren. Services and cremation were under the direction of Wheeler Funeral Home in Sallisaw.

Hazel Maudie McCREIGHT, 70, of Vian died Tuesday, July 9, 1985, in Fort Smith, Ark. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at the Vian Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Calvin Carlile officiating. Burial is in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Vian under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mrs. McCREIGHT was born to Fred C. MILLER and Sadie Ethlyn DITLINGER MILLER on Aug. 10, 1914, in Greenwood, Ark. . She and her husband Thomas J. McCREIGHT, were married March 25, 1932, in Greenwood. He survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Joyce; one son, Tommy; four grandchildren; and one brother, Morgan.

Services for Harrell Clinton MOLTHAN, 74, of Bokoshe, were held Monday, July 8, at 10 a.m. in the Bokoshe Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Jim Hurtt officiating. Burial was in the Old Bokoshe Cemetery under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mr. MOLTHAN was born to Henry JONES MOLTHAN and Ollie TOLBERT MOLTHAN on June 22, 191, at Brazil Station. He died in Poteau on Wednesday, July 3. Mr. Molthan and his wife, the former Vivian L. STROUP, were married Dec. 4, 1930, in Oklahoma City. She preceded her husband in death. Survivors include one son, Harrell Dean; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Obalee and Marguerite.

Services for Henry Lindsey PEACE Sr., 90, of Uniontown, Ark., were held Wednesday, July 10, at 10 a.m. in the Uniontown Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Baker officiating. Burial followed in the Uniontown Cemetery under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mr. PEACE died Sunday, July 7, 1985, in Van Buren, Ark. He was born March 10, 1895, to Thomas L. PEACE and Artie Loy RAINWATER PEACE, in the Lee's Creek area near Uniontown. A Baptist, He and his wife, the former Katie Alice BRANSON, were married Oct. 11, 1914, at Natural Dam, Ark. She survives. Other survivors include four daughters, Mavis, Katie, Melba and Blanche; one son, Henry Lindsey Jr.; one sister, Hazel CLINTON of California; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Word has been received of the death of Dexter Galvin PHELPS, 36, of Woodland, Calif. Mr. PHELPS, a native of Short, was drowned in an accident in California on Thursday, July 4. He was the son of the late Dexter L. PHELPS and Ethel MOTON PHELPS. Services are pending in Woodland. Survivors include four brothers, Earl, Ellis, Bobby, and Earnest Eugene; one sister, Velma Lea; and four aunts, Ona and Thelma, Zona, and Vada. Mr. PHELPS was preceded in death by one brother, Melvin PHELPS.

Services were held Tuesday, July 9, for Seth Auker POLLOCK, 83, of Sallisaw. The Rev. Charles Jenson officiated at the 10 a.m. services which were held at the Agent Chapel in Sallisaw. Burial was in the Akins Cemetery, northeast of Sallisaw, under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home. Mr. POLLOCK died Saturday, July 6, 1985, in Fort Smith, Ark. He was born Feb. 8, 1902, to Sharon POLLOCK and Catherine AUKER POLLOCK in McVey Town, Penn. He and his wife, the former Mary BROWNAWELL, were married Aug. 1, 1928, in Steeltown, Penn. She survives. Other survivors include two brothers, William, and Wayne, and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Lonnie Dean WATERS, 24, of Muldrow will be held Friday, July 12, at 10 a.m. at the Gans City Cemetery. The Rev. Billy Ray Jackson will officiate at the services which will be followed by burial under the direction of the Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mr. WATERS died Sunday, July 7, in Fort Smith, Ark. He was born Nov. 18, 1960, to Leroy WATERS and Wanda COWAN WATERS in Bakersfield, Calif. He and his wife, the former Sue Annette SMITH, were married March 11, 1979, in Sallisaw. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Jamie; the mother, Wanda WATERS; the father, Leroy WATERS; three sisters, Rhonda, Toni and Christine; one brother, Jason; the paternal grandparents, Elba and Leona WATERS; the maternal grandfather, Leonard COWAN; and the maternal great-grandmother, Ada WRIGHT.

Services for Dallas Clayton ASBILL, 72, of Sallisaw will be held Thursday July 18, at 2 p.m. in the Wheeler Chapel with the Rev. Ira Brackett officiating. Interment will be in the Northview Cemetery under the direction of Wheeler Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Mr. ASBILL died Monday, July 15, at Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw. He was born July 30, 1913 to Robert ASBILL and Paralee ELLISON in Sequoyah County. Survivors include the wife, Julia Katherine ASBILL, of the home; 5 sons, Doug, Gerald and Harold, James, and Dallas Jr.; 2 stepsons, Harold and Gary Don; 3 stepdaughters, Phyllis, Jimmy Lou and Carol Sue. Also, one brother, Grady; six sister, Belle, Willie, Jessie, Grace, Maudie, Eula; 27 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Mr. ASBILL was preceded in death by two brothers, Miles ASBILL and Melvin ASBILL and one sister, Nanny WALTERS.

Services for Charles Leon CROW, 69, of Roland, will be held Friday July 19 at 2:00 p.m. in the Agent Chapel in Muldrow with the Revs. Robert Tate and Dale Phelps officiating. Interment will be in the Seabolt Cemetery under the direction of Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mr. CROW was born October 9, 1915 to Ike CROW and Lillie Martha DENNEY in Nicut, and passed away Tuesday, July 16 at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, Ark. Mr. CROW married the former Martha Eleanor FLANAGAN on December 24, 1939 in Nicut. She survives. Other survivors include 3 sisters, Melvia, Verda, and Hazel; and 1 brother, Mitchell.

Services for Henry William FARRIS, 69, of Marble City were held Tuesday, July 16 at 10 a.m. at the Agent Chapel in Sallisaw with the Revs. Vernon Carlton and Loyd Aber officiating. Interment was in the Brushy Cemetery, north of Sallisaw under the direction of Agent Funeral home of Sallisaw. Mr. FARRIS was born June 17, 1916 to Henry Burdett FARRIS and Winnie Jane TADLOCK in Fulton County, Ark. He married the former Mary L. CROUCH on May 3, 1939 in Ash Flat, Ark. Survivors include the wife, Mary of the home; 3 daughters, Freda, Ruth and Marilyn; 5 sons, Paul, Arbie and Alvie, Leroy, Joel; 7 brothers, Walter, Dixie, Paul, Harry, Fred, Buster and Bill; and 19 grandchildren.

Graveside services were held in the Hillcrest Memorial Park Sunrise Lawn in Bakersfield, Ca. on Wednesday, June 19 at 10:00 a.m. for Arthur Lee "Dude" McCOMBS, 74, who died Saturday, June 15 in Bakersfield, Ca. Mr. McCombs was born in Sallisaw Survivors include the wife, Lennie, of the home; 5 sons, Kenneth, Harold, Bill and Arthur Ray, and Jerry; 4 daughters, Peggy and , Pansy and Faye and Geraldine. Also, 1 sister, Neva LEE of Fresno, Ca.; 27 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was also survived by several cousins in the Sallisaw area including Jessie, Bonnie, Bill, Curtis and Eunice. Services were under the direction of Hillcrest Mortuary in Bakersfield, Ca.

Services were held Wednesday, July 17, at 10:00 a.m. in the Agent Chapel in Sallisaw for James Cannon NEWTON, 75, of Sallisaw with the Revs. Billy Ray Jackson and Joe Slater officiating. Interment was in the McCoy Cemetery, northwest of Sallisaw under the direction of Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Mr. NEWTON was born February 15, 1910 to John Benjamin NEWTON and Sarah Elizabeth MARSH in Onapa. On June 30, 1930, he married Rosie Bell REAL in Sallisaw. She survives. Other survivors include 2 daughters, Jettie and Irene; 2 sons, J.C. and Ben; 1 sister, Mae; 4 brothers, George, Cal, Ralph and Roy; 17 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held in the Brushy Cemetery, north of Sallisaw, Saturday, July 20 at 2:00 p.m. for Paul Samuel PORTER, 61, of Beaver, Washington with military clergy officiating under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Mr. PORTER was born September 26, 1923 to William M. PORTER and Nora McKINNEY in Marble City, Okla. and passed away Tuesday, July 9, north of Sallisaw. Survivors include 1 son, Paul S., 1 daughter, Colleen; 2 brothers, John and William M. Also 1 sister, Patricia.

Services for Herbert RICHARDS, 79, of Roland will be held, Thursday, July 18, at 2:00 p.m. in the Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Roland with the Rev. Raymond Howard officiating. Interment will be in the Roland City Cemetery in Roland, under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Mr. RICHARDS passed away Monday, July 15, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born May 8, 1906 to Thomas Hunter RICHARDS and Lillis ADAMS in Lamar, Ark. On October 25, 1924 he married the former Flossie PRICE in Roland, she survives. Other survivors include 1 daughter, Nancy; 4 sons, John, Bert, and Orville and Gary RICHARDS both of Roland. Also 4 sister, Myrtle, Ethyl and Lois, and Frances REAVIS of Roland; 1 brother, Elmer; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Services for Bill Jesse BARNES, 79, of Sallisaw were held Friday, July 19, at 2:00 p.m. in the Wheeler Chapel in Sallisaw with the rev. Ira Brackett officiating. Interment was in the Northview Cemetery under the direction of Wheeler Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Mr. BARNES was born March 2, 1906 to James BARNES and the former Mary SYNDER in Sequoyah County. He passed away Tuesday, July 16, at Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw. Survivors include the wife, Ellar, of the home; 1 daughter, Dorothy; 1 sister, Minnie; 3 brothers, Oddie and Jimmy, and Noah; 2 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were his nephews.

Services for Russell M. TURLEY, 71, of Webbers Falls, were held Friday, July 19 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in Webbers Falls with the Rev. Phil Pack officiating. Interment was in Sallisaw City Cemetery under the direction of Millsap Funeral Service of Webbers Falls. Mr. TURLEY was born to Jess TURLEY and Ida BINDBEUTEL TURLEY on Oct. 16, 1913 in Krebs, and passed away on Tuesday, July 16 at Muskogee Regional Medical Center in Muskogee. On December 25, 1937 he married the former Dorothy PAYNE in Stigler. She survives. Other survivors include 1 son, Bob; 1 brother, Morris; and 2 grandchildren. .

Services for Louella Mae DENTON, 60, of Roland, were held Wednesday, July 24 at 2:00 p.m. in the Wheeler Chapel in Sallisaw. Interment was in the Sallisaw City Cemetery under the direction of Wheeler Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Mrs. DENTON was born to Benjamin Benton BILYEU an Huldah Katherine HUCKLEBY BILYEU on May 2, 1925 in Sequoyah County and passed away on July 22 at a Fort Smith Hospital. Survivors include 6 brother, Fod, John, Roy and Shuford, Ray and Bennie; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, and daughter, Mary Darlene SAMPLEY.

Services for Betty Faye Elouise JONES, 47, OF Muldrow, WILL BE HELD Friday, July 26 AT 10:00 A.M. in the Agent Chapel in Muldrow with the Rev. Wayne Watts officiating. Interment will be in the Upper Camp Creek Cemetery under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Mrs. JONES was born to Charles WALKER and Tina Mae McGREW WALKER on January 8, 1938 in Medina, Texas, and passed away Tuesday, July 23 at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, Ark. She married Chad E. JONES on July 4, 1955 in Clayton, N.M. Survivors include the husband, Chad E. JONES of the home; 4 sons, Russell, Reno, Clayton, and Ray; 1 daughter, Debbie; 1 grandson, C.E.; 7 grandchildren; 2 brothers and 8 sisters.

Services for Bobby Eugene MEADOWS, 48, of Sallisaw were held Tuesday, July 23, at 10:00 a.m. in the Agent Chapel in Sallisaw with Rev. Monroe Lowrimore officiating. Interment was in the Sallisaw City Cemetery in Sallisaw under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Mr. MEADOWS was born to William Eugene Debs MEADOWS on July 29, 1936 in Sallisaw and passed away Saturday, July 20 in Sallisaw. Survivors include the mother, Elsie MEADOWS of the home; 1 daughter, Donna Jean; 1 son Robert Dale; 2 sisters, Connie Joyce, and Debra Sue; 3 brothers, Arvil Ray, and Dale Henry and Jimmy Lee; 1 half-sister, Lucille; the maternal grandmother, Charity, and 4 grandchildren.

Services for Agnes (Bobe) MORTON, 71, of Muldrow will be held on Thursday, July 25, at 10:00 a.m. in the Agent Chapel in Muldrow with the Revs. Glen Rainwater and Carthel H. Ramey officiating. Interment will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Mrs. MORTON was born to Marion Franklin OWENS and Cassie Maud ROGERS OWENS on April 23, 1914 in Muldrow and was dead on arrival at Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw following an auto accident on Monday, July 22. She married William Henry MORTON on February 8, 1947 in Yuma., Arizona. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1977. Survivors include 1 daughter, Donna Jean; 1 son, Jerry Alfred; 3 sisters, Beulah, Lois, and Velma; 3 brothers, Frank, Dale and Willard.

Services for Felix Leon PETERS, 58, of Aurora, Colo., were held Tuesday, July 23 at 2:00 p.m. in the Wheeler Chapel with Father Coleman officiating. Interment was in the Peters Cemetery, northeast of Sallisaw, under the direction of Wheeler Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Mr. PETERS was born to Lorenzo M. PETERS and Dora FRYE PETERS on February 13, 1927 in Sallisaw and passed away on Wednesday, July 17, in Aurora, Colo. Survivors include the wife, Encarnacion of the home; 1 daughter, Ana Maria; 2 sons, Edward M., and Charles L.; 1 brother, Ray Goodlow; 3 sisters, Pluma, Anna Lee and Mary Lou; and 1 grandson, James.

Services for Helen Ivone RODDEN, 46, of Gore, were held Monday, July 22 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Gore, with the Rev. William Armstrong officiating. Interment was in the Gore City Cemetery under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Mrs. RODDEN was born to H.B. FERGUSON, Sr. and Frances Marie ALLEN FERGUSON on July 13, 1939 in Gore, and passed away Saturday, July 20 at her home in Gore. On January 31, 1973 she married Joe Arthur Rodden in Stilwell. Survivors include the husband, Joe Rodden of the home; 4 daughters, Terry Lynn, Frances and Brenda, and Penny Jo; 1 son, Jeff; 1 step-daughter, Tammy; 1 step-son, Larry; and 5 grandchildren. Also, the father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. H.B. FERGUSON, Sr. of Gore; 5 sisters, Gladys, Elsie, Zelma, Velma and Virginia; and 4 brothers, H.B. Jr., J.P. and Tex, and Roy.

Graveside services for Iris E. SCHOONOVER, 72, of Roland were held Thursday, July 18, at 3:30 p.m. at the Roland City Cemetery in Roland, under the direction of Becker Funeral Home of Lawton, with the Rev. Otway Rabon of the Enterprise Baptist Church, Enterprise, Ok., officiating. Mrs. Schoonover was born June 26, 1913 to Frank SCHONEBECK and Lela NELSON SCHONEBECK in Fort Smith, Ark., and passed away Tuesday July 16, in Edmond. She married Loren F. (BUSTER) SCHOONOVER in September 1936 in Fort Smith, Ark. He preceded her in death in 1973. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Jane. .
