Yahola Cemetery

This is the burial place of Yahola Harjo, full blood Creek and one of the most prominent and beloved medicine men in legendary Creek history. During his last illness he expressed the desire to be buried on his own home place about thirty feet west of his log cabin. It is located at the foot of the southeastern slope of the hill upon which was the old Yahola stomp ground. In 1913 when Yahola was buried a group of his relatives erected a concrete vault over his grave. This was opposed by another faction of his relatives. They believed that the concrete vault would prevent him from emerging from the grave on Resurrection Day. In later years the vault was destroyed and a marble marker placed at the grave.
