Drake School as it appears today. The school is located about
6 miles south of Sulphur, west 1 mile and south 1/2 mile. Drake was named for two brothers
who were ranchers in the area, Sam and Block Drake. There was
a post office established April 22, 1901 an lasted until July 31,
1920.

A poem by Oscar Huffines - a
Drake teacher
A picture hanging by my door Shows in three families
number four And a good group did help to make The nineteen thirty school
at Drake
The Williams girls they did quite well Oma, Eula, Venie and
Estell Also the family known as Gilbert Donnie, Lorene, Ozell and Delbert.
Then the four Brewers we will meet Clellie, Frances, Cliff and Pete
And, down the list, of course will be Several names with only three.
The Jackson children can be seen Lucille and Jan and gay Corene. The Fox
kids smiling you can see Leonard, Buford and Georgia Lee.
And three
Hoag eyes so sharp and keen Milburn, W.B. and sis, Lorene Then Goldie,
Lucille and Hazel Ruth The McBride girls in all their youth.
From
there on down we start to lose The next in line had only two’s Two
Pritchard’s-Albert and Tula Mary Their work they finished in a hurry.
Two girls were twins but not in size Their names Pauline and Audine Mize
To represent themselves and clan Came Elsie Smith and Gladys Mann.
Two
real nice boys Bernard and Ray Who came to school to work and play They
studied hard sometimes for hours And used last names of Weese and Flowers.
Then by herself came Iona Goode So quiet cheerful smiling stood Some
names, of course, have slipped my mind But Jessie Hartsell, here I find.
Two other sisters--plain to see The Bowsers-Earn and Freda Lee The
first-a teacher at the time But before long she would be mine.
I
married her in thirty-two For 40 years she’s been true-blue Two little
girls were soon to come To share our love and bless our home.
Now,
that is why I like to take In my mind’s eye a trip to Drake Where with my
single days I parted And in big business really started.
