OklahomaPVT CO H 357 Infantry World War I Death dates on the two markers disagree. Printed in The Davis News on Feb. 6, 1919; Reprinted with permission Frank Beard Arrives Home Pvt. George F. Beard, of Co. H, 357th Inf., returned Saturday to his home in Davis from Camp Pike, Ark., where he received his honorable discharge from Uncle Sam's service. He left Camp Travis, Texas, June 10th, 1918, for oversea and landed in France and was soon up to the front, but took the trench feet about two hours before time to go over the top, and was placed in the hospital. Frank landed in New York Dec. 11 and says he wouldn't take anything for the trip but isn't at all anxious to go back. His mother, Mrs. L.V. Beard says she is very thankful that one of her sons returned home in as good condition as he is. She has two more sons in the service. Frank is the oldest of the three. Mrs. Beard received a letter Sunday from her son Willie Beard, M. G. Co., 142 Inf., and he was still in France enjoying good health and thinks he may get home in March. She hasn't heard from her son, Corp. Poke Beard, since Dec. 9th when she received a telegram saying he was wounded on Oct. 4th. George Frank Beard Born Feb 25, 1887 - Died May 1969 |
