World War I (1914-1918)

During World War I, three draft registrations were held. The first June 5, 1917 for all men between the ages of 21 and 31. The second on June 5, 1918 for men who attained the age of 21 after June 5, 1917. The third, was held on September 12, 1918 for men age 18 through 45. It is important to note that not all of the men who registered for the draft actually served in the military and that not all men who served in the military registered for the draft. The cards were completed by the individual registering for the draft. The cards do not have information about military service. The cards contain basic background information for instance:

Last Name, Middle First -- age-- birth date -- Height-- Build- --Color of Eyes- Color of Hair --Occupation -- Nearest relative---Home address --- signature -- other comments like exemption wife and child or supports father etc.

Ancestry.com lists WW1 Draft cards in their searchable data bases -- However, keep in mind that researchers say that not ALL of the CARDS are in the database.
