About the OKGenWeb & USGenWeb Project

In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database Project. The idea, to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases would be stored. Databases would be indexed and cross-linked. Even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index. Volunteers coordinated the collection of databases and the contents of web pages.

In June, the Kentucky project was near completion. Pages were started for the remaining states. Volunteers coordinated these state pages too. Volunteers are still needed. If the state in which you are interested does not have a page and you wish to be responsible for it, contact the Coordinator of that state by using the USGenWeb. To contribute your data or create a county page within a given state, contact the person responsible for maintaining that state and/or county.
