Rites Held Friday For Roff Resident
John Thomas DAVIS Found Dead Near Roff Thursday
Funeral services were held Friday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the Dunn Funeral Home for John Thomas DAVIS, 74, a resident of the vicinity for 58 years, who was found dead Thursday 1-1/2 miles east of Roff, where he had fallen from a railroad bridge. The Reverend E. C. MEHAGEN officiated at the services. DAVIS left the home of his brother, C. W. DAVIS of Roff on the evening of December 7 and was missing for about 2 days before he was found near the railroad bridge. He died from exposure.
Born in Wise County, Texas, DAVIS came to Murray County when a child and had lived here for 58 years. He had made his home with his brother, C. W. DAVIS for many years.
He is survived by his brother, C. W. DAVIS of Roff and by a sister, Mrs. Emma POTES of Sulphur.
Interment was in the Drake cemetery with the Dunn Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Minnie DAVIS, 74, of near Roff, passed away at her home there Sunday evening at 9 p.m. following a long illness.   Funeral services were held from the chapel of the Dunn Funeral home here Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. Jack CHAFFIN officiating.  Interment was in Drake cemetery.
Mrs. DAVIS was born at Decatur, Texas, on July 9, 1875. She moved to the Indian Territory when a small child and came to Murray county in 1899. The family moved to Roff about 10 years ago.
In addition to her husband, C. W. DAVIS, she is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Ollie McGEE, Purcell; Mrs. Christine GIBSON, Wasco,Calif.; and Mrs. Lula PRIDDY, Seymour, Texas; four sons: Bill DAVIS, Waurika; Jack DAVIS, Lawrence; Bob DAVIS, Lawrence; Homer DAVIS, Roff.

Charley Wesley DAVIS, retired farmer and resident of Murray county most of his life, died at the home of a son in Lawrence Monday at 11:25 a.m. His death followed a prolonged illness.
DAVIS was born in Arkansas and came to Oklahoma and Murray county 75 years ago. He lived for the most part in the Nebo Community.  
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Lula PRIDDY of Green Forest, Arkansas., Mrs. Ollie McGEE of Purcell, Mrs. Christine GIBSON of Wasco, Calif.; three sons, Bob W. DAVIS and Jack DAVIS of Lawrence, Homer DAVIS of Roff; two brothers, Ed MIXON of Ada and Jim MIXSON of Stonewall; sister, Mrs. Ella DUNN, Francis; 37 grandchildren.
Services were at 2:30 p.m. today (Tuesday) in Dunn Funeral Home Chapel, Suphur; Rev. Jack CHAFFIN; Drake Cemetery.
Bearers were grandsons of Mr. DAVIS--David Lee DAVIS, Happy DAVIS, Jimmie DAVIS, John DAVIS, Billy Ray DAVIS and John Marion DAVIS.

Josie G. SELF [nee CONWAY], 84, Sulphur, died here Friday, Sept 23.
She was born Oct. 14, 1903 at Berwyn, Indian Territory, and was married to Joseph M. SELF on July 21, 1918 at Wynnewood. Mr. SELF passed away on March 11, 1967.
Mrs. SELF was a housewife and a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Greeley, Colo.
She grew up in this area and moved to Colorado in 1931. She moved to Springer in 1970 and back to Sulphur in 1972.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. from the Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Don Ritchie, pastor, officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley, Colo., with graveside services scheduled there at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29. Clagg Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. SELF is survived by two daughters, Grace DeLauder, Annandale, Va., and Ruth Self, Sulphur; two sons, Ralph L. Self, El Cojan, Cal., and Joseph M. Self, Jr., Alexandria, VA; a brother, Bernie Conway, Gene Autry; two sisters, Phronia Cowan and Ruby Marr, Sulphur; also six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by one son, Sanford Self, and two grandchildren.
Pall bearers at the service were Bill Cowan, Glenn Conway, Shirl Conway, Gene Conway, Lawrence Conway and Franklin Conway.

STAMPS, Norman "Pete"
Graveside services for Norman "Pete" STAMPS, 70 Sulphur, were held Tuesday, November 28, 1989, 2 p.m., at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City with Hubert Plumlee officiating. Clagg Funeral Home was in charge of arrangemnets. Mr. Stamps died Saturday, Novemeber 25, in Sulphur.
He was born November 1, 1919, in Hollis, OK, and was raised in that area. He later lived in Amarillo, TX, and Oklahoma City before moving to Sulphur three years ago following retirement. He was a retired RCA sales (man) for Dick Christman in Oklahoma City. He married Maxine Waddell, May 31, (year not given) in Eureka Springs, AR. Mr. Stamps was a member of the Church of Christ and a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the VFW.
Surviving are his wife, Maxine Stamps, of the home; two daughters, Linda Townsend, El Reno, and Wanda Pilgrim, Carlsbad, NM; one son, Frank E. Stamps, Perryton, TX; two brothers, L.E. Stamps, Panhandle, TX, and Loyd Stamps, Mobeetie, TX; and sisters, Hazel, Pauline, Ila, Gladys and Lahoma and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Martha Ann CHASTAIN
Martha Ann CHASTAIN, 77, died here January 28, 1994. She was born December 22, 1916 at Kiowa to John Newton and Leola L. (GARVIN) MARSHALL.
She married Elige J. CHASTAIN, August 6, 1932 at McAlester and had lived in Sulphur the past four years, moving here from Krum, TX. She was a housewife and a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband Elige CHASTAIN; five daughters, Nancy CHASTAIN, Bertha THOMAS, Leola WOODS,
Katheryn SEWELL, and Mary SHOCKLEY; four sons, James, Joe, Kenneth and Jackie CHASTAIN; two sisters Minnie [RAMSEY] and Veatrice [DAVIDSON]; one brother, Joe MARSHALL, 40 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feburary 1, 1994 at 10:00 a.m. at Clagg Funeral Home with the Rev. Mittie REEVES conducting the service. Interment was in the Restland Memorial Park Cemetery in Dallas with Clagg Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
