GARRETT
Mrs. Kate Cruse GARRETT, 89, died Monday, July 10 at her home in the Peavine
Community following a long illness. Mrs. GARRETT, born May 3, 1883, in Prairie
Grove, Arkansas, was the widow of John A. GARRETT, pioneer Adair County farmer
who died March 6 of this year. Mr. and Mrs. GARRETT were married April 16,
1905. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Stilwell.
Survivors include: two sons, Mack and Bill GARRETT, both of Stilwell; and
two daughters, Mrs. Lucille HURD, Stilwell, and Mrs. Katherine STRANGE, Tulsa.
Services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Roberts Funeral Chapel
with Mr. Jack STEELE, minister of the Christian Church in Siloam Springs,
Arkansas, and the Rev. William TODD, minister of the First United Methodist
Church in Stilwell, officiating. Interment was in the Stilwell City Cemetery.
ETTER
Mrs. William (Ruby) ETTER, 64, mother of Jim ETTER, farm-area editor of the
Muskogee Phoenix, died Saturday, July 8 of injuries sustained in a traffic
accident June 20.
Survivors also include her husband, one daughter, eight grandchildren, her
mother, one sister and one brother. Services were held Tuesday in Muskogee.
Interment was in the Greenhill Cemetery, Muskogee.
BYRUN
Mrs. Sara Jane BYRUN, 55, a sister of Marshal SMITH of Watts, died July 4
in a Wagoner hospital following an apparent heart attack. Mrs. BYRUN, a resident
of Hulbert, is also survived by three sons, a foster son, three daughters,
two other brothers, two sisters and six grandchildren. Services
were held Friday, July 7 in Wagoner. Interment was in the Hulbert I.O.O.F.
Cemetery.

SHERLEY
B.H. SHERLEY, 91, a retired farmer, died July 9 at the Westville Nursing
Home. SHERLEY, born May 23, 1881, in Arkansas, is survived by his wife, Mrs.
Maggie SHERLEY, Stigler; five daughters, Flossie AMOS, Stigler, Velma KEETER,
Stilwell, Ruth HARPER, Brea, California, Bea COLLINS, Oildale, California,
and Francis SCOTT, Bakersfield, California; and three sons, Bill SHERLEY,
Tulsa, Allen SHERLEY, Stilwell, and Bob SHERLEY, Westville.
Services were held Wednesday, July 12 in the Roberts Funeral Chapel in Westville
with the Rev. Herman ISSACS officiating. Interment was in the Stilwell City
Cemetery.
FISHER
Services for Mrs. Mary FISHER, 78, were held Friday, July 7 in the Roberts
Funeral Chapel in Westville. Bro. Bud LACIE officiated and interment was
in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Mrs. FISHER,
born September 2, 1893 is survived by: three sons, Clifford FISHER, Washington,
Lt. Cmdr. Gene FISHER, Denver, Colorado, and Dwaine FISHER, Westville; six
daughters, Laura ROSS and Fern WEEKS, both of Westville, Kate REBOZZRO,San
Jose, California, Irene PITTMAN, Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Betty SALTENBURGER,
Fairview, Missouri, and Loraine WOOD, Michigan; 18 grandchildren and 12 great
grandchildren.
ROBINSON
Mrs. Alma Louise CHARTIER ROBINSON, 57, a resident of Stilwell, died Monday
in the Stilwell Municipal Hospital. Mrs. ROBINSON, born October 3,
1914, in Oklahoma, is survived by: one son, Lawrence E. ROBINSON, Ft. Worth,
Texas; one daughter, Mrs. George GOODSPEED, Seattle, Washington; and eight
grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Roberts
Funeral Chapel with the Rev. J.H. RUSSELL, Ft. Worth, officiating. Interment
will be in the family cemetery at Scott Daugherty Mountain near Stilwell.
WASHINGTON
George WASHINGTON, 66, a Cherokee County farmer, died Saturday, July 15 in
a Tahlequah hospital. Services were held Monday morning in the Washington
family home at Moodys with the Rev. Woodrow SAM of Stilwell officiating.
Interment was in the Greenleaf Cemetery south of Tahlequah. WASHINGTON,
born April 9, 1906, in what is now Oklahoma, was a member of the Johnson
Prairie Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Callie WASHINGTON of the home; two sons,
Teehee WASHINGTON, Moodys, and Charlie WASHINGTON, Tulsa; four daughters,
Flora BIRDTAIL and Doris SMITH, both of Gore, Onnie GRASS, Moodys, and Viola
Jean GRIMMITT, Stilwell; three brothers, Jim, Blackie and Sunday WASHINGTON
and his mother, Jennie WASHINGTON, all of Tahlequah; three sisters, Bessie
GRASSHOPPER and Peggy SEQUICHIE, both of Tahlequah, and Laura GRIMMITT, Park
Hill; 31 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

BROOKS
Mrs. Edith Mae BROOKS, 45 a resident of Westville, died July 15 in the Memorial
Hospital, Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Mrs. BROOKS, whose husband is Doyle BROOKS
of the home, was born December 6, 1926, in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She was
a member of the Assembly of God Church.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include: two sons, Michael BROOKS,
Westville and Douglas BROOKS, Delaney, Arkansas; two daughters, Joanne RICH,
Junction City, Kansas, and Gloria Sue LISH, San Diego, California; one brother
and three sisters.
Services were held in the Assembly of God Church in Lincoln, Arkansas.
Interment was in the Westville City Cemetery.
SHANKLE
Abraham SHANKLE, 81, a resident of Westville, died July 14 in the Memorial
Hospital, Siloam Springs, Arkansas. SHANKLE is survived by his wife, Zona
SHANKLE, Westville; two sons, Harold SHANKLE, Big Sand, Montana and Rollin
SHANKLE, San Diego, California; two daughters, Flina GWIN, Tulsa, and Alice
Marie TUCKER, Tampa, Florida; one sister, Pearl DONLEY, Noblesville, Indiana;
one brother, Earl E. SHANKLE, Veneta, Oregon; 12 grandchildren and seven
great grandchildren.
Services were held July 17 in the Hart Memorial Chapel in Westville.
Interment was in the Westville City Cemetery.
CRITTENDEN
Webster CRITTENDEN, a retired employee of the Kansas City Southern Railway,
Died July 4, 1972, in the Stilwell Municipal Hospital at the age of 67 years,
10 months and five days. He was the son of Jack and Elsie REESE CRITTENDEN.
He was married to Frances WALKINGSTICK who preceded him in death in 1932.
To this union were born two sons, Bruce, deceased, and Nathan of Route 3,
Stilwell; and one daughter, Sadie, wife of John TORBEY Jr. of Coplay,
Pennsylvania; also a step-daughter, Melinda, wife of Raymond HUMMINGBIRD
of Tulsa; and three granddaughters. He is also survived by three brothers,
Carl, LaVerne and George of Stilwell; and two sisters., Leona CHRISITE and
Florene DOYLE of Stilwell.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Luke, and two sisters, Nancy and
Nellie.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Hart Funeral Home of Westville with
the Rev. COCHRAN officiating. Interment was in the Blackwood Cemetery.
WILKIE
Mrs. L.D. (Jeraldine F.) WILKIE, 55 died Tuesday July 25] in Oklahoma City.
Mrs. WILKIE, born June 4, 1918, in Pettigrew, Arkansas, is
survived by: her husband, Loren WILKIE of the home in Harrah; four sons,
Kenneth BROWN, Yukon, Oklahoma, Roger HUME, Stilwell, Dannie WILKIE, stationed
with the U.S. Air Force in Alaska, and Bobby WILKIE, Harrah; three daughters,
Mrs. Velma BITTNER, Manter, Kansas, Mrs. Rexine GIBSON, Ft. Riley, Kansas,
and Mrs. Virginia CASEY, Yukon; her mother, Mrs. Isabell HENDRIX; two brothers,
Earl and Earnest HENDRIX; and three sisters, Mrs. Annie HUME, Mrs. Alpha
MOTEN and Mrs. Gladys BELL.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Roberts Funeral Chapel in Stilwell.
ABBOTT
Mrs. Georgia Ann ABBOTT, 74, of Stilwell, died Tuesday, July 18 at her home
following an extended illness. Mrs. ABBOTT, born December 8, 1893, in Lorena,
Texas, had lived in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, before moving here six years
ago. She formerly lived in Watts. She was a member of the Baptist
Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Mrs. Josephine THOMAS, Route 1, Siloam Springs;
one sister, Mrs. Lora FITZGERALD, California; four grandchildren and eight
great grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday, July 20 in the Memorial Chapel of the Wasson
Funeral Home in Siloam Springs. The Rev. Kenneth PAYNE, Decatur, Arkansas,
officiated. Interment was in the Bell Cemetery near Siloam Springs.
WEEDMAN
The father of one of Gov. David HALL's top advisors was killed Friday night
[July 21] in a two-car accident on S.H.82, near Cherokee Landing. The
accident happened near where a group of Stilwell residents have a "camper
city."
J.T. WEEDMAN, 77, of Shawnee was dead on arrival at a Tahlequah hospital
with a broken neck. WEEDMAN was a passenger in a car driven by James Jasper
CRISS, 77, also of Shawnee which ran a stop sign as he left Cherokee Landing
State Park. He pulled into the path of a car driven by Lawrence E.D. PIPPENGER,
60, of Cushing, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.
WEEDMAN was the father of J.T. WEEDMAN Jr. a close friend and advisor to
HALL. The young WEEDMAN has been in the governor's staff since the beginning
of the Hall administration.
STEVENSON
Services for Columbus Alexander STEVENSON, 88, a former Adair County resident
who died Sunday, July 16 in Tulsa, were held Tuesday, July 18 in the Roberts
Funeral Chapel, Stilwell. Bro. Arthur ESSARY officiated, and interment was
in the Bunch Cemetery.
STEVENSON, a retired carpenter, also was a former employee of the Spartan
Aircraft Co. in Tulsa. He was born January 21, 1884, in Marshall,
Arkansas.
Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Ruby STEVENSON of the home, 2416 West Archer
Place, Tulsa; two sons, Carl STEVENSON, Stilwell, and D.W. STEVENSON, Tulsa;
one step son, William SUTTERFIELD, Poteau; five daughters, Mina GIRDNER,
Myrtle WEATHERS and Mrs. Lester WILDER, all of Tulsa, Lillian GIRDNER, Bunch
and Ruby HOWELL, Skiatook; two sisters, Mandy JONES, Leslie, Arkansas, and
Rose COTTON, Heber, Arkansas; 26 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and
five great great grandchildren.
STEPP
Mrs. Eva Mae STEPP, 82, a resident of Stilwell, died Monday [July 24] in
the Stilwell Municipal Hospital. Mrs. STEPP, born February 4, 1890, in Stilwell,
is survived by: her husband, Vester (Bob) STEPP, Stilwell; and three sons,
Arnel Lee STEPP and James R. STEPP, both of Dalton, Georgia, and Thomas L.
STEPP, Tallahassee, Florida.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday [July 26] in the Roberts Funeral Chapel
with Bro. Arthur Essary officiating. Interment was in the Stilwell City Cemetery.
ALLSUP
Mrs. Retta ALLSUP, 79, a resident of Claremore, died unexpectedly Sunday
in Claremore. Mrs. ALLSUP was the grandmother of Mrs. Larry ROBERTS of Stilwell.
Services were held Wednesday [July 26] in Claremore with interment in the
Claremore Cemetery.
